    Weight loss has stopped...getting worried

@@charzard2016 It's not the new foods. It's just your body finally saying "hey, wait a minute!" after all the trauma it's been through in the past few weeks.

    Weight loss has stopped...getting worried

Welcome to the "Dreaded Week 3 Stall". 95% of us go through it. It can last a few days to a few weeks. I can absoultely PROMISE you, it will end and you will start losing weight again.

"This was the best thing I ever did"

I won't lie. It was tough in the beginning. But all of that is a distant and foggy memory almost 22 months post-op. Now I am loving life! I've been maintaining below goal for almost 10 months. I ran my first half marathon in April. I'm training for a full marathon in September. For me, at least, maintenance is easy. I have no trouble meeting my Protein goals.

    Calories

45 grams does seem super low. I was told to push my way up to 100 grams as soon as I was able. I would say I got about 450-550 calories a day in my soft food stage. Pushed hard to get it up over 800 as early as possible.

    People Meeting the New You

So, my husband and I are divorcing. As part of this process, I'm trying to "put myself out there" and meet new people. I have begun to do that. But this is really the first time where people are meeting the thin me who never knew the fat me. And it definitely makes for an interesting dynamic I hadn't experienced before. I don't really have a question here. Just interested in your thoughts and experiences on the topic.

    People Meeting the New You

It's definitely been an experience! I didn't know what to expect, since it's been a long time since I was single. The dating world has certainly changed a LOT with all these dating apps and cell phone.... not my cup of tea! And there's the fact that I'm no longer in my early 20s.... But so far so good. I am navigating it all pretty well.

    Choosing a Surgeon

Gotta love those friend's mother's cousin stories! There is little to fear in traveling to TJ for surgery. Can bad things happen there? Probably. There's crime in every city in America too! I have been to TJ twice for surgery and both times I felt 100% safe 100% of the time. The real "danger" in going to Mexico for surgery is just choosing the right surgeon. There are MANY highly skilled and qualified surgeons there, so do your research and make sure you choose one you are comfortable and confident in.

    + Pounds Already?

Definitely no need to worry. Your body is healing and recovering from a lot of trauma. There could be any number of causes of temporary weight gain, the most likely of which is water retention due to internal swelling. I can guarantee you that you aren't gaining pounds of actual fat right now!
  9. This is not just a problem with this site. It's a problem with the internet in general. When people have something to complain about, they will do so loudly. When all is going swimmingly, they don't feel the need to share that with perfect strangers.
  10. Not for me. I still get that same feeling when I'm anxious, nervous, stressed, or "in love".

    Low carb products

So, the thing for me with low-carb substitutions is that they still take up SPACE. Space is a very very precious commodity when your restriction is severe and you still need to meet your protein goals. Could I have a little low carb tortilla or some high protein pasta? Sure. But it will leave less room for my primary protein sources. I just don't bother with those things.

    People Meeting the New You

There is definitely a very active community here and everyone I've been meeting up with is big into staying active. A lot of hikers and cyclists especially. I just think most of them are active by a matter of course and not training for anything specific, so they are used to a more flexible schedule. Whereas, with my marathon training, I have to be more strict than most of them are used to seeing. I'm making it work though. I've actually been really successful at meeting new people and staying active this last little stretch. I have plans every single night this week! Got home from a visit to a friend in DC on Sunday and ended up doig dinner and a movie with a couple of people. Last night I had a stay-in movie date with someone. Tonight I have my Hill Runs Meetup (we run up an down a ridiculous hill for an hour because we hate ourselves, apparently) THEN a movie with a coworker. Tomorrow I have a Game Night Meetup at an ale house. Thursday I'm meeting a different coworker after work to go hiking. And Friday night I'm doing a Pub Crawl!

    My hair!

Mine lasted about a month and a half. Started at 3.5 months post-op and let up at about 5 months post-op, when it immediately started growing back.

    Coffee

I was allowed regular coffee at 30 days post-op, but it had to be heavily diluted with milk/cream in the beginning and only one cup a day.
  15. You should be allowed more than just protein shakes at 2 weeks post-op. I was allowed strained cream soups and yogurt as well at that point. You definitely want to get your calories higher as soon as you are able. Being that low for long is going to wreck you metabolism.
  16. @@sarah7 I agree with @@KristenLe why take the chance? If it can pose ANY extra risk to yourself or the baby, why not just wait. I understand that people who accidentally get pregnant have to try to make the most of their situation, but I would certainly advise against putting yourself in that situation intentionally. This is the time for you to be focusing on YOURSELF, establishing new, healthy habits, and learning how to work with your new tool. Don't get ahead of yourself and jeopardize this opportunity.
  17. @@ausmith Don't mean to scare you. It's just that a LBL or extended TT are MAJOR procedures that take MONTHS to fully recover from. You don't want to put your body through more than it can handle. I'm not saying you shouldn't do the procedures only 3 weeks apart, if your medical professional is saying it will be okay. I am just saying that of the two, the LBL is the much more significant procedure, so you will need to allow yourself more recovery from it.

I caved and now I'm worried

Yeah, I don't understand why the OP's surgeon would be unhappy about a 9 pound loss in a week. That seems extremely good! I really hate the idea of time-based weight loss goals anyway. Everyone loses at a different pace. As long as the scale trends downward, we all reach our goal eventually. I was a "slow" loser, but it hasn't made a bit of difference since I've been maintaining below goal for 9+ months. Who cares how long it took me to get to goal if I'm able to maintain it the rest of my life?
  19. JamieLogical

    Hello!

I live in constant fear of injury. Right now, my running is one of the main things giving me a sense of pride and purpose in life. Not sure how I would fair if I had to stop for a while. I hope your recovery goes well!

    Hello!

Hi! I've been better. Going through some serious stuff right now. At least my marathon training isn't suffering.

I caved and now I'm worried

You definitely messed up. But shame on that surgeon for giving you a hard time about "only" losing 9 pounds. What the heck is that!??!?! I only lost 14 pounds in my first full month post-op and my surgeon was thrilled with that.

    It has been difficult

At 21 months post-op, my "hunger" is usually still head hunger too. It's mostly when I'm bored. When I am active and doing things, I really have to remind myself to eat. If I go more than about 4 hours without eating, my only real symptom of "hunger" kicks in. I become "hangry".
  23. JamieLogical

    It has been difficult

We have surgery on our stomachs, not our brains. Of course you FEEL the same as before. Your feelings are in your head. It will take a long time for your brain to catch up to your new physical reality.

    Weight gain after 2-3 years?

I had previously lost 90 pounds and regained 80. I had also had many times when I lost 25-40 pounds and regained it all. I was still able to lose weight with my sleeve. Been maintaining below goal for going on 9 months now.

    People Meeting the New You

So far I haven't told any of these new people about my surgery, but the amount/types of food I eat has come up a couple times. The amount of time I spend exercising has been a BIG topic of conversation, since it really does impact heavily on my schedule and availability. I *think* I've mentioned having lost weight to a couple of people, but not how much.
