Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC

I don't know about taking a taxi. That would probably cost a fortune even if she could. What I would do is see if she could to the OCC shuttle along with any other OCC patients that might be coming the day she's arriving.

    My Husband is the Cutest

This is an actual text conversation I just had with my husband. We have been together just over 9 years: Me: if we venture out of the house for anything besides hockey this weekend, i need to buy a new bra Me: the band part of my work bra is just way too loose now and my boobs fall out the bottom Husband: I love you Me: aw Me: what inspired that? Me: certainly not my bra comments! Husband: "the band part of my work bra is just way too loose now and my boobs fall out the bottom" Husband: hehe Me: lol Husband: I'm just happy someone will talk to me about her boobs falling out of something. Me: that's all you needed in life? Husband: I'm all set now. Me: i'm glad i can provide that for you
  3. 10 weeks is a long way out to still be feeling discomfort EVERY time you eat ANYTHING. Have you talked to your surgeon or nutritionist? I'm sure you've already covered all the bases in terms of making sure you chew chew chew and eat slowly. What is preventing you from getting all your fluids at this point? Does drinking cause you discomfort as well? As for your stall, that is bound to happen if you aren't getting any food in. You are basically starving, which means your metabolism has probably completely shut down in order to save your life. I would say if it is this bad this far out from surgery, you really need to be talking with your surgeon about potential causes of your discomfort and having some tests run. It is not normal to be that uncomfortable over 2 months out from surgery.

    Not Getting Enough Fluids

You are only 2 days out. Give it a little time. Very few of us are able to get all of our water and protein in right away. Do your best. I found it easiest to sip while marching in place.

    AM I CRAZY?!

If it's of any reassurance, the mortality rate for gastric sleeve is lower than knee replacement. Do deaths happen? Rarely. But, as you said, you have no other underlying health issues, so you are very low risk.

The first 3 days or so pre-op are pretty brutal, especially the headaches. Hang in there. It does get slightly better a few days in, though for me I was ALWAYS tired through the whole 2 weeks.

    Help always hungry!

I eat 6 times a day and that really helps prevent me from ever feeling hungry. I have a protein bar for breakfast, a cheese stick for a morning snack, 2-4 oz. of meat for lunch, greek yogurt for an afternoon snack (with some granola mixed in on workout days), 2-4 oz. of meat for dinner, and a protein bar as a late snack.

I had my plastics in Mexico, so it was considerably cheaper. In 2011 I had breast lift with augmentation, extended tummy tuck with muscle repair, lipo all over my whole body (even my calves!), and a two week stay in a recovery house with 24/7 nursing care for about $10,500. I paid an additional $200 or so for compression garments and prescription meds. And of course there was airfare for flying into San Diego.

One week down! Off to see surgeon today

Every surgeon has their own pre and post-op plans. If yours has you on purees right away and you feel fine, then I don't think there is anything to worry about. As you move through the next phases, just make sure you are still feeling good and be prepared to go a little slower than your surgeon recommends if necessary.

    Yellow tongue! Yuk!

Halitosis is a side-effect of sending your body into ketosis, as happens when you initially go on a high protein/low carb diet. That may be the cause of your current situation. If so, it is only temporary and will stop as your body stops releasing ketones. If it is a thick film, then it may be thrush. I don't know why you would develop thrush pre-op, but I developed it post-op because of the liquid antibiotics I was on. Thrush is a yeast infection in your mouth and can be treated with various home remedies as well as prescription anti-fungal medications.

    Quest bars!

Oh I completely agree! Thus my daily consumption of them! I am lucky to not have any of the gas or bloating the way some people experience. Maybe it's like gluten.... some people have real issues with it and some people are completely fine with it? I also have been SUPER lucky in that I have had zero issues with constipation post-op. I am completely regular and don't have to take any fiber supplements or laxatives at all.

When is your new surgery date?

    Help always hungry!

I'm six months post-op and there is still NO WAY I could eat that much food in one sitting. I can only do 2-4 oz. of meat at a time. No room for sides at all. If I tried to work in veggies or starches, it would be at the expense of protein and then I wouldn't be able to get my 100 grams of protein in.

    Help always hungry!

It seems like you are having to supplement a lot to get your Protein in. You should try to get more of your protein through real food and cut out the carbs. You mentioned bread, potato, corn, and quinoa all in one day! Not to mention whatever carbs might be in your protein shake and Quest bar. I am no carb nazi by any stretch. I don't count carbs at all. I just find that by filling up on protein, I don't have much room for carbs. I do get carbs from quest bars and from sauces and/or breading with my meats, but I never eat stand-alone carbs. Take that for what it's worth, though. I am a very slow loser, so maybe "my way" isn't the "best way".
  17. When I was on soft foods, it was a lot of eggs and dairy. I was allowed Protein shakes, but I was supposed to be getting 100g of protein in so I was definitely getting 60 or so from real food. I had scrambled eggs with cheese melted on top, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, Shelly's Baked Ricotta, string cheese.... Once I was allowed some meat, I would do shredded chicken (big fan of Jack Daniel's shredded chicken!) or tuna salad. When I was allowed ground meats and legumes, I would do chili or turkey meatballs. Hope that helps some!

Curious to know what study she is basing that conclusion on.

  20. I think the "newbie" label is related to how long you've been on the forums and how many posts you've made, not how far along you are in the WLS process. Not sure there's anything you can do to change it, but maybe one of the moderators can chime in. Good luck with your revision! I hope the sleeve works out better for you.
  21. Yikes! That sounds pretty rough. While my husband didn't understand my choice and disagreed with it, he was fairly accepting at least. Not sure what I would have done if he really fought me on it. I definitely still would have had the surgery, I just don't know what I would have done in terms of our relationship. Good luck to you! Hopefully his mom can talk some sense into him!

    Surgery is tomorrow!

Good luck! Let us know how everything goes.
  23. I just met with my PCP prior to surgery and she agreed to order my post-op blood work and have me check in with her regularly (had appointments at 2 months, 4 months, and another set for 8 months post-op). My surgical team had many post-op resources available to me via email and phone. So all of my post-op questions/concerns, they just addressed remotely. Had I had any post-op complications I would have either gone to the ER or gotten a referral from my PCP to a local surgeon. Unless you have complications, there is really no physical post-op care required. I had a leak test during surgery and another the day before I left Mexico. As I said, my local doctor ordered blood work just to make sure I wasn't developing any deficiencies (I didn't). Not all Mexican surgical teams are created equal, though, so do your research! I had surgeons, doctors, and a nutritionist all available via email and phone post-op, not all surgeons offer that level of follow-up.

    Quest bars!

I've seriously contemplating replacing all of my meals with them.
  25. There are a couple of sub-forums on this site where you might be able to get some advice on cheaper surgery options or financing: Self-Pay & Mexico Gastric Sleeve Surgery Insurance & financing I personally went to Mexico for my sleeve and borrowed against my retirement (I'm only 35) for the financing.
