Tired - new symptom developed in past two weeks
JamieLogical replied to HopeandAgony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you use a heart rate monitor or any device that tracks your calorie burn when exercising (besides the read-out on the elliptical itself, which is useless)? If you are burning 500 calories or more through exercise, then 700-1000 calories a day isn't going to be enough to sustain that. I had to get well over 800 calories a day just to be able to do 500 calories of cardio every OTHER day. -
I wish I had taken my laproscopy scars after my VSG as seriously as I had taken the scars from my plastics back in 2011. My VSG scars haven't healed as well as my plastics scars.

Almost a year out and only lost 64lbs
JamieLogical replied to branlee90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What the what? How far out from surgery are you? Only 60 grams of Protein and only 700 calories? That is nuts if you are like a year out! This Wednesday I will be 5 weeks out. I have a nut meeting in 1.5 weeks and will go up to 70 grams of protein then. I am by no means a nutritionist, but if the poster is having issues losing weight it might be too many calories. Ah, okay. That's relief. The OP is a year out so NO WAY should she be on only 700 calories a day. At 5 weeks that makes MUCH more sense! -
So glad to hear it! Hopefully it will continue to move!

My GS Experience in Tijuana Mexico
JamieLogical replied to EP8's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Glad to hear things went so well. I've had surgery twice in Mexico and my experiences were very similar to yours. I received excellent care and attention and never worried for my safety at all, even though I traveled there alone both times. There are just a tiny handful of surgeons and a bunch of urban legends that give Mexico a bad rap when it comes to surgery, but it truly is a fantastic option for those who can't get insurance to cover surgery and can't afford self-pay in the States. In fact. for plastics, I would prefer Mexico to the States, not just for price, but for the quality of work done there. -
Going in I just remember talking to the anesthesiologist. Coming out I remember moaning uncontrollably and getting frustrated that I couldn't stop moaning.

Going back to work
JamieLogical replied to Tweety40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My main issue when I came back to work was fatigue. It was very tough to make it through a full day. I ended up just going straight to bed as soon as I got home for the first week or so. It got significantly better once I was able to get more calories in as I progressed through the food stages. -
How Long Have You Maintained Your New Weight?
JamieLogical replied to careya123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I reached my goal weight right at my one year surgiversary and have been maintaining for the past 5 months. While 5 months isn't that long in the grand scheme of things, it is a long time for me! I have managed to lose weight many times in the past, but it always came right back as soon as I was "done" with my diet and exercise. Obviously, I can never be done with sleeve. The real test for me came when we moved back in late October/early November. In the past, when I had lost weight, it was always stress in my real life and getting out of my routine that derailed me and caused me to pack the pounds back on. An injury, an illness, a move, a new job, etc. So in late August, right as I was hitting my goal, we listed and sold our old house, had to do a lot of work to it to get it ready to list, then a lot of work after the inspection, then a lot of packing, putting stuff in storage, and getting rid of a ton of stuff. Then we moved to the new house in early November, had a million projects to do to that house before we settled in and unpacked. While I was doing a lot of physical activity through all of that, I was also dealing with a LOT of stress and I was WAY out of my routine. I wasn't exercising regularly at all. I was having to eat when I had time instead of on my usual schedule. It was EXACTLY the kind of perfect storm that would have caused me to gain 20-30 pounds in just a few short months pre-sleeve. But with my sleeve there to help me, I didn't gain one single pound through the whole process! Now I am back into a routine with food and exercise and don't feel like I have ground to make up like I would have in the past. -
Post op in hospital question...

You aren't allowed to bathe or swim, but you're allowed to shower as soon as you are physically capable. -
Was it worth it Pro's and Cons
JamieLogical replied to heidileach1983's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I feel like your post got cut off half way. It sounded like you were trying to make a point about downsides to the surgery at a year out, but you only list one example of a pro and no cons.... -

All of those things are caffeine and I wasn'f allowed any caffeine until 30 days post-op. It for sure SUCKED, but not so much I was willing to jeopardize my recovery. Check with your surgeon or nutritionist, since every plan is different.

Fitting in a plane seat
JamieLogical replied to futurecrna08's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
No lol I didn't know such a thing exist. I thought I would have to buy another seat. Southwest have them? I am pretty sure every airline has them. Edit: They have some policies on their web site that mention seat belt extenders, which leads me to believe they must have them. I saw that their policies also mention that you only need to buy a second seat if you can't fit in your seat with the arm rest down. -
Here I Go....I need Help
JamieLogical replied to sjrn16's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! You are right that this site is fantastic! It has been invaluable to me throughout my entire journey, both pre and post-op. So much great info, so much support, and so much tough love when you need it! Your life will be forever changed with this surgery, but in mostly good ways. There will be challenges and struggles, but it will be worth it in the end. -
Stomach growling?
JamieLogical replied to theladyslipper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on a PPI? it's very common for excess acid to mimic hunger in the early weeks post-op. -
I feel you! In my 8th and 9th months post-op, my weight loss was at a crawl and it was VERY VERY hard to remain sane and calm and stick to the plan when it really seemed like the plan wasn't working anymore! You just have to keep pushing through it, as much as it SUCKS.

Fitting in a plane seat
JamieLogical replied to futurecrna08's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Did you have a seat belt extender? If the seat belt won't fit, you will have to ask a flight attendant for an extender. -

JamieLogical replied to Susan Lewis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My reaction is the same as @@Inner Surfer Girl where is the protein? No wonder you are getting hungry between meals! I was told to get 100 grams of protein per day. I DO eat snacks between meals, but I sense my meals are smaller than yours. And even my snacks are primarily protein-based. -
for those who went to mexico...did you tell your primary Dr before you left?
JamieLogical replied to jenjackson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One would hope a doctor would be a little less likely to succumb to urban legends and anecdotal stories about surgery in Mexico than the average public. They are aware there are excellent surgeons and doctors all over the world. -
how many calories at 6 months post op
JamieLogical replied to mataz78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds to me like you aren't getting enough calories and that might be slowing your loss. a e you experimented with increasing your calories for a couple weeks to see if that helps? -
how many calories at 6 months post op
JamieLogical replied to mataz78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not sure exactly at 6 months. I know I pushed myself up over 800 calories as quickly as possible, as I felt that was teh bare minimum I needed to sustain regular exercise. I am sure that at 6 months I was at least up around 1200? I'm in maintenance now (almost 17 months post-op) and I need to eat a good 1700-2100 calories a day to maintain my current weight. -
I've stopped losing weight
JamieLogical replied to kxylxmxrie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@kxylxmxrie You left a lot out of your post, like how far out you are from surgery, what you are eating, how much exercise you are doing, whether your meeting your Protein and Water goals.... I sincerely doubt that you have stretched your stomach. It's natural to gradually be able to eat more food in one sitting as you heal. I can certainly eat more now at almost 17 months post-op than I could at 2 months post-op or even 6 months post-op. But I still have considerable restriction and as long as I eat the RIGHT things, putting protein first, I still fill up on very little food. How much can you eat at one time right now and WHAT are you eating right now?
