    Weighing food

Hi, when I drink liquids I still can't gulp... I go slow and sip on my Protein shake... I can't drink tons of Water. I have a friend who had the surgery the day before my surgery and she was a very big water drinker from the beginning.. She drinks a lot even now. I have seen her drink with her meals and I have reminded her that our surgeon said it was important not to do that in fear of possibly stretching the pouch somewhat (not to mention the uncomfortable feeling of filling up too soon and not getting in the nutrients that you need at the meal. If you are drinking water then it will fill you up quicker and you will get full leaving some of your food. I have also read that the water may pass the nutrients and food straight on through, so several thoughts behind that rule, if you will)... I researched this topic a lot and all of the research behind the reason that we should wait 30-45 min before eating to drink and waiting 30 or so min after eating to drink.. It was hard for me at first but now I don't even think about it.. I just do it... Being a nurse for 24 years and researching some of these "why you do it this way" helped me to solidify the fact of why I should follow sound research.... My friend has not joined any support groups or things like this where you can read several other people's opinions and experience and she ends up asking me a lot of questions.. I have encouraged her to research, read and get on here or other forums for info but she has not yet done that. The way I look at it, is that I have been told the pouch will stretch over time (that's a given), so I do not do anything else that will stretch it before that time comes when it will stretch with time... Hope this helps.. Kellee
  3. I didn't eat spicy foods till I was about 6-8 weeks out.. As long as I took my prevacid then I was ok..
  4. Hi, I felt the same way but as others have said above, your body needs time to heal. You will have a lot of internal swelling.. These things take time and it takes time for your body to heal.. I think I was 8 weeks out when I had that moment of "wow, I finally feel like I'm losing wt" and "these clothes are big on me".. So yea, it took time for me to get to the point where my body had healed and the swelling had finally gone away and things started falling into place where I felt like I was losing when I would try on my clothes. You will get there

    Is this normal?

I had that feeling post op all the way into about 2 1/2 months post op.. I would literally time myself eating with a watch, eat slowly and no fluids while I was eating. It got better and went away after about 2 1/2 months. I do experience it if I eat over 4 oz and get closer to 5 so I do try to weigh my food each time. I take Prevacid it works best for me. I did not have reflux too bad prior to the surgery and only took prevacid about 1-2 times a week. I tried last week to go with out the prevacid and woke up to food coming up in my throat and could not sleep. I have not skipped the prevacid since that episode.

    Weighing food

I am like a religious freak about weighing my food... I am only 4 months out and I get stuffed when I go over 4 oz... 5 oz is pushing it for me.. From what I have read and researched the sleeve does stretch over the years so I am very careful of going over the 4 oz limit that my doctor and nutritionist have set..
  7. Yes, it's water.. so it counts.. Just make sure you get all of your water in and you will be fine..

    Concerned about my Blood Pressure

Mine was ok... I have been on a beta blocker since I was 23 so I wasn't really expecting to come off of the med... I thought it was hereditary.. I was told to take my beta blocker the morning of surgery with a sip of water which I did... That was 4 months ago and I'm down about 43 lbs.. I immediately came off of my diabetic meds and haven't had any since the day before surgery. My BP has been running low and I only take the pill 2 days a week but waiting to completely come off of it in the next couple of weeks. I monitor it daily.. I would not worry too much about your BP.. They can give I.V. meds to get your BP down before, during and after surgery.
