October 2014 sleevers check in please!
Jen - a work in progress replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
most everyone will hit a stall at some points during the journey. Everyone is different. When you hit them, just give it a while to get going again and if still no loss, you can ask your nutritionist for some advice on diet changes to get it moving again. Also, sometimes you are losing inches and not pounds. -

My post op diet allowed for scrambled eggs since day 1. I wouldn't call it cheating tho. Now of you snuck a bite of cake or candy... That's cheating. Eggs are still a healthy protein option and some postop diets allow for them immediately. -

Didn't know that, but thanks for the update. Lol! I wouldn't be worried about the list either if I were in the middle of moving. ???? Good luck with the move, Susan. I'm still in, this should be fun. -

My job requires a flu shot (I work in a hospital). I told them to hold mine because I wasn't coming back before the deadline to get one and I'm not getting one before surgery. I always get sick behind them. -

I might need to look for that Nectar. I know my surgeon won't allow me back to work on protein supplements. He is against them for whatever reason. I know most people start out their post op on liquids then go to pureed. I was immediately started on purees. The day after surgery I was told to order a puree lunch and dinner and my surgeon came for both meals to see how I liked the food and if I was able to eat any of it - cause that's the expectation at home. Also, to stalk me about my water intake - he almost didn't let me go home because I wasn't drinking enough. At home, it's all puree the first 2 weeks - greek yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken, tuna, salmom, turkey, eggs, etc. I personally stick to the Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. When I reach week 3 I can go to mechanical soft foods. I'm not getting in my required protein at all. I am almost able to get my full 64 oz of water in everyday. I try to eat something at each meal time, but I'm not really hungry. -

I like oikos too, but you have to watch the labels. Caramel is sugar so the sugar content for that flavor will be much higher. There are some other flavors like Black Cherry that have a higher than desired sugar content. -

It is impossible this close to the start. My doctor doesn't even want me using shakes. All of my protein is to come from foods. They know starting out reaching that goal is impossible. They want you to build up to that goal tho. Also to drink and stay hydrated, which is more important than the protein. -

I might need to look for that... I prefer something more natural over the chalky drinks lol -

I was sleeved on Oct 23rd. I'm also about 5'5" or 5'6" and was sleeved at 238 lbs. Today I weigh around 226 - one week out. I was always told that we'll lose weight slower than those who have higher starting weight, but should lose most of it in the first 6 months. -

Wondering if you have an updated list yet? I know a lot of people have decided to join in, but the original spreadsheet link only shows a few having been added. -

So true! I swear my stomach sounds like it's holding a little monster the way it growls after a meal lol! I should probably keep track of foods that cause it the most so I don't eat them prior to a work meeting or other typically quiet setting lol. That would be hilarious or embarrassing depending on the group. -

Oh my goodness! That's a lot to go through! Glad you're on to brighter days now. And you're right, as the swelling decreases so will the #s on the scale. Keep up the positive attitude! One day at a time, one pound at a time, we'll make it -

Thanks for the heads up! I'm only one week out, but I can watch for signs of that stall and be proactive in the upcoming weeks. -

I felt the same way you did - weak, unable to consume any real amount of food, strained. I hadn't had a bm since prior to surgery which had been about a week. I called my NP and she said to take some milk of magnesia. I think I was so backed up that nothing was going anywhere and my sleeve wasn't able to properly empty. I will say the day after I took the MOM, I felt A LOT better. I was able to drink 20oz of water by noon, where simply drinking before was a challenge for me and left me feeling stuffed. -

I will NEVER forget yesterday! Lol! I feel much better now. However, I will admit it was a combination of the 2 large gulps of water and the fact that I was backed up. My NP said walking should help with the water drinking pain, but it didn't. She also told me to take some Milk of Magnesia for my other issue since it had been so long. I did that and slept for a few hours yesterday afternoon. Stomach pain was still there, but no longer felt like a stuffed pig by the evening. I feel much better today, just the tenderness where my pouch likes to try and bulge out at near one of my incisions. It's so weird lol! -

I'm in! I just had surgery 10/23 so I'll see how things go between now and 11/7 to gauge my goal setting on. Best of luck to everyone! -
Carb / Protein / Fat % guidelines
Jen - a work in progress replied to Elaraye's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hate that they make you set the carb and fat goals in MyFitnessPal. I would just set my protein goal and dont worry about what the other 2 numbers fall at as long as they equal 100% totaled. -

Hey guys!! With the end of October approaching, I started a new thread for all of us post op October sleevers. I posted the link below so hopefully it will work. I don't spend to much time on the preop boards since having surgery because the post op boards are more relevant now. So anyway! Feel free to join us over there! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/322879-October-2014-sleevers-check-in-please! -

I know a lot of people hit stalls during their journey. Some contact their NUTs or NP for some guidance on what they can change to get the loss going again. Others just give it time. -

I started my preop diet with pureed foods, but it has been a mostly liquid one so far. I have tried some Greek yogurt and cottage cheese which seem to be doing well although I don't eat much of it. I also have tried applesauce, which is good but pretty much an empty food used to get my omeprazole in with. And Tuna, which I didn't like much before surgery and still don't really like it now lol. Jello and sugar free Popsicles are great for having something different -

I have a 2 week post op visit on 11/10. I weighed 238 right before surgery and right now weigh 230. I accidentally gulped down two swallows of waters early this morning. I've been having stomach discomfort ever since. I'm doing laundry now and as soon as I get done, I'm taking a nap! Otherwise no real complaints yet. -

Great job on the weight loss so far! I'm not close to meeting my water and protein intake winter - definitely easier said than done lol. I don't use a surgical binder at all. When I wear an older snug tank top or something for some support, I end up getting a puffy and cramped feeling in my stomach.
