Surgery in 12 Days

I have done better today, but the liquid diet is really hard. ElleMay, have you found that the initial liquid diet with the band is easier that the preop diet, since you get full more quickly. Thanks for the info on picking up the baby. That has been one of my biggest concerns. I have family willing to help, but I love hold my boys. Even my 8 year old still climbs up in my lap. MsCas3, Don't beat yourself up about the preop diet. If you will notice, I have had trouble with mine too. After all, if we could stay on liquid diets well, then we wouldn't be getting banded. Best of luck to you. My banding is on the 24th. Keep me posted on how you are doing.

    Surgery in 12 Days

The baby has RSV. He is sleeping now. He had this when he was little and was very sick. We ended up in the emergency room with respiratory problems. The doctor said that since he is older now, he shouldn't get as sick. I am planning for a speedy recovery for him and only one week to go for me. Surgery a week from tomorrow. No more corn dogs today. I am back on track.
  3.
We went back to the doctor today. My son has RSV. Yuck. He had this when he was very little, and ended up in the emergency room with respiratory problems. However, he is not having any respiratory symptoms at all. His doctor said that since he is older now, he shouldn't get as sick. It is contageous, but usually is just a cold in an adult. I am praying for no illness for the rest of our crew. Only one more week!!

Penne, it sounds like you are doing great!! It is so encouraging to hear all of these success stories. I made the mistake of going to the thread for people with comlications last night. Boy that freaked me out. I know people do have complications but that is a risk with any surgery, and risk seems very minimal to me. There are tons more success stories. I just should have saved reading that until after my band.

    Question About The Ap Band

Thanks for all the info. The receptionist from my docs office called me back and said that Dr Querry told her that she has used all of the other bands and it is the AP band that I will receive. She left a message with the surgery department (they were in surgery) to confirm that I will receive the AP band. My dad said to let him know if that is not what they are using. He said that he would make sure that they are ordered. he said that if it is a better band, then he wants to make it available for all of the patients. I'm sure Dr Querry went to the training. She is seems very up to date on the current options. If she said that I will get the AP band then I am sure she is ready to place it. The sharpie writing on your stomach is great!! I may have to try that myself. I am a nurse at the hospital. I only work occasionally, but I am going to call the surgery nurse and talk to her about it as well, but I do trust Dr Querry, so I am confident that I will get the AP band. WOOOOHOOOOO

    Question About The Ap Band

I called my dr this morning. I talked to the receptionist. She said that she thinks the hospital is using what's left of the old one before ordering new ones. Well, my dad just happens to be the administrator of the hospital. I hate to put the daddy card, because i think it is unprofessional, but we are talking my band here. I called him and told him that if there is new technology then I want it. I told him that it is really important to me to have the new band or I wouldn't ask. He said that he would get with the CFO and see if he can get it ordered for me. :clap2: He did say that i need to consider that the new band could have issues that they don't know about yet because it is new. I told him what I have read here, and he said he would do his best. He and my mom are also planning to be banded so he is supportive of the procedure.

    Surgery in 12 Days

Thanks. He is prescious. His name is Dylan. I am waiting for a call back from the doctor. He and I have been up since 3:30a. He had 103.6 temp. Took him to the doctor yesterday with 101 temp, but he was fine, except fever. He still doesn't have any other symptoms. Just high fever. I have gotten it down to 100. Poor little fellow. My surgery is 1 week from tomorrow. I need my kiddos to be well, and I don't need to get sick!!! AAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
  7. Corn dogs are weinnies on a stick with a cornbread like breading around them. Thanks for the replies. Rastis, I think you are totally right about people not understanding, even if they try, unless they have been through this. That is what's so great about this site. it is 4:30a here. Surgery is a week from tomorrow, and i am up with my 11 month old. Temp is 103.6. No other syymptoms. I hope we are not fixing to start passing some virus around here. I took him to the doctor yesterday, but he looked fine except his temp then was 101.2. If still running fever I take him back for bloodwork this morning. We will be going back. Poor little guy!! Pray that I stay wel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (is that selfish) I soooo don't want to get sick this close to surgery.

    I feel aweful

Thanks, after i posted this morning, feeling on top of the world, i blew it tonight!! Iate 2 corn dogs. I can't believe I did that. Anyway, back to liquids for me. Amy
  11. I started my liquid diet on Wednesday. I have felt ok until today. I am on myoplex shakes and they keep me full. I woke up this morning feeling aweful. My head is stopped up, I have a headache. I just feel kinda flu like. Is this coincidence, or does it go with the whole liquid diet thing. I remember feeling kinda like this a few days after beginning the atkins diet. Any suggestions??????
  12. OMG!!!!!I just blew it. Here I am thinking I am used to the whole liquid diet thing and I just ate not 1 but 2 corn dogs when I fed my boys supper. I have to say they were GOOD!!! But now I feel just aweful. I wanted to do the whole liquid diet for 2 weeks without getting off at all. Here it is day 6 and I just jumped off the deep end. Only liquids for me from here out!!
  13. Thanks so much carol. I live in Pittsburg, Tx. It is a very small town in east Texas (about 2 hours east of Dallas). My surgeon is wonderful as well, and I am very confident in her, however, you are right, there are so many questions and emotions connected with this whole thing and you don't want to call every day. Today is my 6th day of the preop diet, and I am really starting to adjust mentally to not being able to eat solid food. It's a good thing, because it doesn't look like I will be seeing solids for a long time. Evening is the most difficult, because I am used to fixing supper each night. Good ole east texas cookin. My dh is super. We went to Sam's and bought tons of frozen foods for he and my 2 boys. He has asked me not to cook during all of this, realizing how hard it can be. I kinda feel bad because that food is not good for them, but neither was the stuff I was cooking. Tony (dh) is very excited and sees this as a change for our whole family. He is thin and has always been more health conscious than I. Why wouldn't he be excited his wife is fixing to be FINE again!!!!!!! We were high school sweethearts, so he knew me when I was MUCH smaller. Anyway, I am so excited about this site. I am glad things are going well for you. Looking forward to getting to know you all.
  14. Hey, My name is Amy. I am new to the site. I have found so much good info here, and you all are so very supportive of each other on this thread, I thought I would chime in. I am from Texas, and scheduled for surgery on October 24th. It is getting sooooo close. I too, have tons of different emotions. I can't wait for the day to come, but I am a bit nervous as well. I can't wait to start the rest of my life. I told my dh that I plan on this ranking right up there with marriage, the birth of my son, and the pending adoption of my little guy. I look forward to getting to know all of you better. I now have band buddies. how cool is that!!!!

    I feel aweful

Thanks. I think you are right. I feel much better. I have more energy and am really not hungry. It's very wierd. I just realized that I have not had a shake (nothing but water) since noon yesterday. that's 24 hours. I know that is not a good thing, but it's wild how quickly I have gone from feeling aweful, with no energy to feeling pretty good and having to remind myself to drink my shakes. My surgery is the 24th and I am soooooo ready. Thanks again. Amy

renewedhope will be banded on the 24th Amy Thanks
  18. My name is Amy. I am 33 years old and married to my high school sweetheart for 12 years. We have an 8 year old son and are in the process of adopting an 11 month old little boy. He found us when he was 2 months old. He was cocaine exposed and very difficult in the beginning, but now he is on track for his age and absolutely prescious. I am a little nervous about not being able to lift him. I am a nurse by profession, but currently am a stay at home mom. I hope to remain at home for a very long time. My husband is a welder at a power plant. Our 8 year old is amazing. We enjoy hunting, riding 4 wheelers, church, friends, and FAMILY FAMILY FAMILY. BTW, I live in East Texas. My husband is very support of my lapband decision. He is a great guy, and such a cutie ( I've got to figure out how to do pictures. I am scheduled to be banded on October 24. This is my 4th day on the liquid diet and I don't like it too much. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

    Surgery in 12 Days

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I hope I don't have to wait 6 weeks to hold the baby again, but I definately don't want to do anything to mess up my band. Without going into much detail let me explain why I am so concerned about this with our little guy. He is 11 months old, and we are in the process of adopting him. He was cocaine exposed and lived in that environment until he was 2 months old. That is when he came to live with us. He has since learned what security and attachment are.... maybe a little too well. I can hardly put him down. When I first scheduled the surgery I felt kinida guilty, because I know it will be difficult for him, but then I decided that experiencing the loss of his mom due to health problems r/t obesity would be even worse, so it is for him also that I do this. Maybe I need to find a good nanny. I am sure we will all survive, and it may be good for him to learn to be comforted more by my husband.

    Surgery in 12 Days

Thanks for all the info. I called my surgeons office to ask about lifting restrictions. My surgeon was in surgery (imagine that). The receptionist told me that I should plan on not lifting my son (16 pounds) for about a week. I hope she is right, but that just seems like a very short time. I will defininately talk to my Dr about it. I am just trying to make plans for help with caring for my baby while my husband is at work. My biggest concern with the surgery is not being able to pick up my son. He puts a whole new meaning to momma's boy. I also have an 8 year old son that will be a lot of help. Thanks so much.
