I have lost 29 pounds since I started my preop diet. I can't remember the last time I had a period on my own, but I have now had 2. Sept 30, and Nov1. The first was before my band and the second after. I never thought I would want to have a period!!

I'm doing well. Iget my first fill on the 20th and boy do I need it. I must say there have been a few times that I have over done it. I have not vomited but have felt that lump in my chest that stops you instantly. I hope I haven't messed up anything. My weight loss has slowed since starting solids. I have got to start exercising. We got our first foster child last week and he is 1 month old today, so I am adjusting to being up at night again. Overall things are going well. Amy

Chickie, Did you ahve abnormal hair growth before your weight loss. I have to wax my lip and chin weekly, and I have "man hair" on my arms. I really hate all of the extra hair. I am SOOOO hoping that the weight loss will help with that?????

Pamela, I was thinking the other day that we need a PCOS thread! Thanks for getting it going. I am adjusting to life with 2 babies under 1 year old, so Ihaven't been on much lately. I am eating more than I should. Can't wait for my first fill on the 20th. I too have PCOS. I will post my story later. My dh, my 8 year old and my 11month old all have a stomach virus. I have been cleaning up poop and vomit for 2 days. Our 3 week old foster son and I are the only ones not sick. Just took a break to check the boards. I am very excited about this thread. The symptoms of PCOS are a big factor in my decision to be banded. I look forward to sharing support and encouragement with you all.

I was feeling good after 4 days. Went to walmart on day 2, but i wouldn't suggest that. Remember, everyone is different, so just listen closely to your body. I would guess, though, that you will be good by Thanksgiving. And probably still not hungry due to swelling. Amy -

Buttercup, If he can't get you in ,can you find another doc who can, and request your records be transferred?? Surely he will work you in when he hears of your situation. Moto,, It is perfectly normal to get nervous before surgery. This is such a major life change, but well worth it!! Hang in there, and welcome to the boards. Amy -

justwaitin2b banded in October and a bit scared

I did. I don't know if it's ok to or not. Probably not, but I did. I haven't had much trouble. If I eat too fast then I get pretty gassy. Other than that I am ok. I get my first fill on the 20th and I can't wait. I am still losing but i am having a difficult time sticking with the diet. -
I have read some about the AP band that just became available in the US. I read on my surgeon's website that she now has this band. I also heard that she is using up what she has before switching to it. She is out of town and I am her next lap band (Oct 24). I plan to call and request the new band. Is this something I should insist on??? How big of a difference will it make? I just figure that if there is new technology then I want it. Any thought????

The adoption is final. He is officially our littly boy (although he's been ours for months). Such a wonderful feeling. The 2 week old is not coming until Thursday morning at 11am. The CPS worker is unable to bring him today. This is really good. Now I can just enjoy today and our adoption of Dylan. I am doing better as far as eating. I have gotten back on track. Hope things are going well for you too. -

You will do great!! Look forward to hearing from you after surgery. -
I am having a really hard time as well. I was banded on the 24th of October. I, like you, worked up to the surgery. I was all ready to go. I had the surgery and did great through my week of liquids and then when I startd mushies last Wedesday I just kinda have lost control. So I have had 4 days of good intentions that have ended in way too many carbs and not enough protein. I got on the scales this morning and I have gained 3 pounds. It's amazing how quickly that can happen. We have family in on both sides this weekend, so everywhere I go there is lots of food. We also finalize my son's adoption on Monday, so this is just a big time of celebration. In our culture waht do we do when we celebrate?? WE EAT! ARGHHHH!!! I have declined an invitation to go to my mom's for hamburgers after church this morning. i am sending the rest of the crew, but I am going to come home. I have put myself on liquids for today, and then I will go from there. I have to focus much more on protein. These carbs are making me very hungry. Hang in there, we can all do this. I can't wait for my first fill on Nov 20.

Question About The Ap Band
renewedhope replied to renewedhope's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My concern wasn't with the doctor. The hospital that I had my surgery at was using all of the bands they had before using the ap band. If there was newer technology then I wanted it. Not to say that the other bands were not ok. If my doc had reccomended another band then I would have been ok with that. I do trust my doctor, but being a nurse myself, I know that it is our job as patients to advocate for ourselves. My health, my surgery, my band are all areas that I want to be involved in decision making processes. I do trust my doctor. I am very glad that I chose her, but I think the days of "The doctor is always right, so don't ask questions" is over. I do see what you are saying, and yes, I agree that we should not "obsess" over what type of band, but I do think we should be advocates for ourselves in understanding the different types of bands, and being involved in the decision making process of our healthcare. That is the great thing about this website, we get to see many different peoples view on different topics. None wrong, just different. That is what make us beautiful, unique people. -
justwaitin2b banded in October and a bit scared

I feel fine. Maybe too good. I am very frustrated with myself. I have been HORRIBLE today. I started out pretty good, but this evenin I have eaten several pieces of my son's Haloween candy. I also at a couple of bites of caramel popcorn and 2 jars of baby food meat sticks. I am on mushies, so the meat sticks might not be toooo bad, but OMG!!!!! i can't mess this up, and now I am no longer in ketosis, so I am starving!! I feel like I could eat a house. I guess the swelling is down. First fill is November 20. I am going to get my act together starting right now!! I feel bloated and gassy. I don't hink I hurt my band, I sure hopw not. It has been so long since I have eaten junk I can really tell. I feel that sugar hangover and I don't like it!! Ok, I confessed, now I am going to get back with the program.!! -
I was banded on the 24th of October. I thought I would never be hungry again. I even posted a thread asking if it was possible to have restriction without having a fill. It is possible!! It's called swelling!! As of yesterday I am HUNGRY!!! I am on mushies and ff refried beans and ff sour cream are saving my life. 4 days ago I thought I might not even need a fill for awhile, but this morning I am counting the days until November 20 when I GET MY FIRST FILL!!!!!!!! You don't have to wonder if you are in bandster #$^&%$#. Whe you get there you know it!!

I also have an 8 year old who is tons of help. Thanks for the encouragement. -
When I went to the doctor Tuesday she ok'd me to start lifting my 11 month old. He weighs 18 pounds. I can't lift anything heavier than him, and she doesn't want me carrying him around all the time. The new baby is only 2 weeks old and has been neglected, so it is very likely that he will be small

I have a prayer request. My dh and I are in the process of adopting an 11 month old little boy. We will finalize his adoption on Monday. We became certified as a foster home this week, and guess what??? Our social worker called today and asked if she could place a 2 week old little boy with us on Monday afternoon as soon as the adoption is final. WOW!! We really feel called to do this, but I am a little concerned that I will have 2 babies that can't walk and I will be less than 2 weeks post op! I am doing very very well, so I will just trust God to work out the details.. Meanwhile, please pray that this will all happen ve3ry smoothly. Wow, a new baby, a lap band and an adoption all within 2 weeks. God does have a sense of humor!!

Pamela, Concrats!! Sounds like you are doing great. This is on a totally different subject, but I think I told yall that we are in the process of adopting a little boy. We got him when he was 2 months old. He is 11 months old now. We will finalize his adoption on Monday. Since we got him we have become foster parents. Our social worker called this afternoon and we are going to get a 2 week old little boy on Monday afternoon!!!! WOW!! We just completed our certification. Was not planning for one this little this quick. I am only 1 week post op and I will have 2 who can't walk. God does have a sense of humor. Feeling both overwhelmed and blessed!!! -
Restriction Without Fill?????????
renewedhope replied to renewedhope's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That makes good sense. Thanks so much. -
Is it possible to have restriction without having a fill. I was banded on Oct 24. I started mushies yesterday. I expected to have to really watch my portions, but I can eat very little. Last night I ate a couple bites of grits and 1/2 of a soft scrambled egg and was very full. Today for lunch I ate 1/4 cups of tuna with 1/2 tablespoon ff mayonaisse. Again, I am very full. I burp a little after I eat, but no BP, no nausea, no knot in my chest. Nothing like that. I am just full after eating very little. These servings are what I expect to be able to eat from now on, so I am cautiously optimistic. I have the ap small band which my doc says already has almost 3cc of saline in it. It would be way to good to think I could reach my sweet spot without fills wouldn't it???
