    Question from a newbie.

There is not a specific test. It is diagnosed according to symptoms. Here is some info that I pulled from this website. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) I hope it helps to answer some of your questions. PCOS effects so many areas in your life. It is about so much more than fertility. As I am learning to manage my symptoms, I am only now realizing the effect this has had on many aspects of my life. Best wishes to you. I hope this helps. What tests are used to diagnose polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)? There is no single test to diagnose PCOS. Your doctor will take a medical history, perform a physical exam, and possibly take some tests to rule out other causes of your symptoms. During the physical exam the doctor will want to measure your blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and waist size. He or she also will check out the areas of increased hair growth, so try to allow the natural hair growth for a few days before the visit. Your doctor might want to do a pelvic exam to see if your ovaries are enlarged or swollen by the increased number of small cysts. A vaginal ultrasound also might be used to examine the ovaries for cysts and check out the endometrium, the lining of the uterus. The uterine lining may become thicker if your periods are not regular. You also might have blood taken to check your hormone levels and to measure glucose (sugar) levels What are the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)? Not all women with PCOS share the same symptoms. These are some of the symptoms of PCOS: infrequent menstrual periods, no menstrual periods, and/or irregular bleeding infertility (not able to get pregnant) because of not ovulating increased hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes—a condition called hirsutism (HER-suh-tiz-um) ovarian cysts acne, oily skin, or dandruff weight gain or obesity, usually carrying extra weight around the waist insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes high cholesterol high blood pressure male-pattern baldness or thinning hair Patches of thickened and dark brown or black skin on the neck, arms, breasts, or thighs skin tags, or tiny excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area pelvic pain anxiety or depression due to appearance and/or infertility sleep apnea—excessive snoring and times when breathing stops while asleep

    Taken off metformin/weight gain.......

I pb ice cream. Don't know why, but I do. I think because it is so cold. I just don't even go there anymore.. Georgia girl introduced me to a book that explains pcos and the effects it has on your body better than any I have ever read (and I have read several). It is called, "The Natural Diet Approach for PCOS and Infertility" It is by Nancy Dunne. I am still reading it, but it is awesome, and includes a diet that, while somewhat restrictive, really makes sense. It seems to be working well for me.. You can google her website and order the book there. Well worth the money!! Best of luck to you!!

When did your period come back?

I had a period shortly after surgery, but then not again until the first of April. I have lost from 255 to 198. I was right at 200 when I had this last period. I really feel like I will see aunt Flow regularly now. In fact, I have gotten pregnant only once. I weighed 195 when I became pregnant. it seems that things begin to work when I am under 200.

The Natural Diet Solution For PCOS.......

I totally blew it on food today. I got up early to pay bills, because I knew we would be out all day. I planned to take nuts, fruit, etc with me, but ran out of time. I left the house at 9am with nothing in my tummy, and no food to eat during the day. Bad choice.... Here is what I had today B - Nonfat peppermint white mocha, no whip cream L - 2 pieces of fried chicken and 2 100 twix bars D - marinated flank steak and steamed zuchinni and yellow squash S - small lemon slush, edemame My saving grace...... 3.2 miles on the treadmill and 30 minutes on the stationary bike. How are you feeling today??????

    Is it selfish?

I have 5 (1 bilogical, 1 adopted, and 3 foster children). they are 9, 4, 2, 1, and 6 months. I was banded almost 6 months ago. I can run and play, and have enough energy to keep up with them. I am having soooo much fun being a mom now. Lapband was the best choice for my family, me, and all of my kiddos. I love life again, which allows me to love all of them better!!

The Natural Diet Solution For PCOS.......

Dylan is soooo much better. The steroids have really helped. They make him act crazy,, but no more wheezing today. you aren't going to gross me out about your leg. Actually, I am an RN and worked full time until February of this year. I probably pretty much know what it looks like. Very painful, too. I have actually packed and dressed those sort of wounds before. I have made poor choices over the weekend. I just got home from buying groceries for the first week of the sample menu. There were a few things I couldn't find, so i will have to improvise. I spent a small fortune, but if I can stick to it then it will be worth it. Hope you have a much better week. Amy

The Natural Diet Solution For PCOS.......

I usually don't get nauseated. I get a big lump in my chest. It is hard to talk. Lots of slime builds up. It either eventually goes down or else it comes up. I haven't pb'd or slimed much lately. It is pretty gross. I got my book in the mail yesterday. I have been looking at it alot. It is so much easier to follow than the online book. I am going to do the sample meals for the first 7 days. I am going shopping tonight and will start that in the morning. i am still having a lot of sugar cravings. I really want to make this work. I have just still got to wrap my mind around it all. It makes really good sense. How are you feeling. How is your thigh. Sounds really painful. ttfn
