Any October Bandsters!??!?!
renewedhope replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love Pittsburg Hotlinks too. I haven't had any since I was banded. I am eating low carb right now. How many carbs in a hot link?? HMMMM. I used to work at a Resteraunt called Warrick's. They are owners of the Hot link place. I know them personally. Nice people. I don't know anyone looking for a house here, but there are lots of them for sale. -

Tonight I saw some size 8 shorts on clearance for $3. I asked DH if I should get them, and that maybe I could wear them once I was healed from surgery. There were some size 6 beside them. My DDH said, "You better get those 6's too". So, I bought both pair. I put the 8's on just to see. Ok this may be hard to picture, but I can buttona nd zip the 8's under my belly flap, so my flap is hanging over, but I could pull it up and actually see what a pair of shorts look like withou my belly flap. I LOOKED TINY!!! I couldn't even believ my own eyes. I can't imagine that she will really remove all of that "junk" that was hanging over, but if she doesn, man!!!! This will definately be worth it!! -

Any October Bandsters!??!?!
renewedhope replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The most difficult thing was the period from after surgery until you have good restriction. I couldn't even tell I had a band. I kept on my plan mostly during this time and lost around 10 pounds a month, but it was so hard because my band wasn't helping me yet. I remember thinking that this worked for lots of people, but it was going to be another thing that I did to lose weight that failed. Being obese, we become so accustom to weight loss plans not working. Well, it works. Once you have restriction your are like, WOW!! This period is known as Bandster Hell, and now I know why. Just remember that this is not "another weight loss attempt" This is a lifestyle change and determine from the start that you are going to be successful, and once you get through Bandster Hell you will begin to see results that you really wondered if were possible. -

Just want to stick my head in and wish all of you the best. I was banded Oct 24 of last year. What a difference a year has made. I am not the same person that I was when I sat where you are just 1 year ago. It is not easy. In fact, at times it is very hard, but so worth it. I am approaching my 1 year bandiversary and have lost 86 pounds!! For my bandiversary gift I am having a tummy tuck and thigh lift on Oct 24 of this year. I've gone from size 22 to size 10. So jump in and give it all you've got. Whatever happened to the October 07 group I'll never know, so if yall don't mid I will be checking in and rooting yall on. -

My weight has slowed significantly in the last 3-4 months. I was planning to start PS consults at 150. I am 5'5. Since my weight loss has slowed it just seems like the right time to do it. I think that is a very personal decision. I know some surgeons require you to have been at goal for some time. Mine has not such requirements and now just seems to be the time. When it is time, I think you'll know. Some of the other ladies may be able to answer this question better since they are further along in this part of the journey. -

I buy ketostix at Walmart. It takes me 48 to 72 hours to get in ketosis. Once in ketosis the carb cravings for me go away, but if you eat sugary carbs, watch out, the cravings come back with a vengence. I stay under 30 carb/day. If you look at the nutrition forum, there is a subforum called low carb bandsters. -
something I have to get off my chest.....I HATE PCOS!!!
renewedhope replied to ThinDolphin3's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 12 years ago. I only had periods once or twice a year. I struggled with weight gain, infertility, amenorrhea, facial hair, and fatigue. My band has saved my life.... I am almost 1 year out and have lost 86 pounds. I have to agree with the carb thing. My weight loss for the past 3 months has been pretty much nonexistant. I low carbed during the first 6 months post band and then decided to start taking in carbs again. Bam...weight loss stopped. I am low carbing again and beginning to see the scales move. I really do think that there is something to carbs and PCOS not mixing well. Anyway, I am 11 months out I have normal periods, lots of energy, 86 pounds gone, my sex drive does exist now. I still have problems with excess hair, but I dobt that will ever go away completely on its own. I have begun laser hair removal. And believ it or not I am getting my tubes tied this month. That is just wild when I have struggled with infertility for so long, but it would appear that I have become fertile again, but we have 1 bio son and adopted 1, so we are not planning to have anymore. I say all that to say this, YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Yes PCOS sucks, and makes it harder, but not impossible. Cut out carbs, exercise and log what you eat!! -
i'm in. I am having ps on the 24th, so I will only be in until then. My goal is simple. I want to run everyday!! Yesterday I ran/walked 8 miles. I won't do this much everyday, but I want to at least do 5K daily. I MIGHT take Saturday off, maybe not.

I'm staying on plan today because I am finally in ketosis!! The carb cravings are gone and I want to keep them that way!! -
Ok, DH plays the guitar. He bought me a tshirt that says, "Support Local music, Sleep with a musician." I wore it Saturday and went to the Barbeque place. The owner said, "I play in a band, and I sing lead vocals. That should count for 2 shouldn't it". OMGosh I was so embarrassed. That would not be considered PC, but neither would my tshirt. I guess I asked for that one. DH was beaming with pride. I was beaming with embarrassment. I must admit though, the compliment felt dang good. A year ago he definately would have ignored the shirt. A year ago DH wouldn't have bought me the shirt. Oh how my life has changed!!

I am positively happy because I ran 8.2 miles today, divided in 3 runs. I positively could not have done that a year ago, or a month ago for that matter. WOW! This band is an amazing tool, but more than that, we are amazing women for choosing to use it!!!

Lyn you are way too funny. Ok, I am definately obsessing a bit with this Nike+ thing. I am doing a challenge with Whosya, and I have never liked being beat by a boy, so I am running, running, running. In the last 3 days I have run a total of 12.87 miles. Today I ran 8.2 miles divided into 3 runs. My average mile is 10:27. 8 miles in 1 day. OMGosh, my legs are really tired and my house is a mess. I am going to be cleaning until DH gets home at 9:30.

Thanks Karey. I agree completely with all you said. I did not have any problem when my band was placed. I know I will be out longer and that increases risks somewhat, but I am just not going to let myself go there. I have chosen to have this surgery. I do not have any "impending doom" feelings. I do not think I will die. I think I will wake up in pain. The pain will be really bad for 24 hours and then very gradually get better. I have really high pain tollerance. I had a csection and was in the shower less than 12 hours later and out and about within 2 days(my son was born on Dec 20, and I made it to all the family gatherings). Again, everything has risks. Thanks again. I know dad is just being a dad. I am soooo ready to do this!!! -
Way to go georgia!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, need some reassurance here. Tonight my dad, who is a hospital administrator, said that I should really rethink having all of this done. He said that I will be under for way too long (probably about 6 hours). blood clots, etc. I am a nurse and I know the risks, however, I keep telling myself that I have no comorbidities. I run 3 miles at least 3 days a week. My resting heartrate is in the lower 50's. My PS said this week that I am probably the healthiest I have ever been. I eat right. I take very good care of myself. Did any of you ladies experience any anesthesia problems? You know, this fear is always in the back of your mind(even when I had lapband surgery). I just choose to expect the best, take good care of myself, and not worry about the rest. I want to look as good as I feel, and I feel pretty dang hot!!! Anyway, just needed to vent. I am so ready to be awake and done with this surgery. There are always risks in everything we do. -
Mamato, So sorry you are having such a hard time. You know from being a nurse that long term illnesses are ften harder on the caregiver than the patient. I am not surprised AT ALL that your psychologist is concerned about you. An antidepresant is not the end of the world. You know, you may be suffering from situational depression which is brought on my things in life that just stink. I am not saying that you should take the antidepressant, but don't quickly rule it out either. You will be able to finish your weight loss goals at some point, but for now please, please, please take care of yourself. You are so stretched. BTW, Don't think that we are always up and perfect. Believe me, I am not dealing with anything like you are having to deal with, and I gained a pound in the last week. We all have times when we are more motivated than others. You will get there. I'm so sorry. I am such a fixer. I wish there was a way to make it better, but know that you are always welcome on this thread. Good or bad, we miss you when you are not here. Hang in there!!
