  1. Well, I guess I look like I need to be weighed everytime! It never really bothered me until I got over 300, then it just seemed to be torture.
  2. I can't believe you weren't weighed at your consult visit! Everytime I walk in the door of a doc's office the first place we go is the scale, the doc who doesn't weigh me is my dentist and optometrist! I am somewhat discouraged because I really haven't had any 'last supper', I just can't get motivated to exercise. I hope now that I am approved I will do better and take some weight off.
  3. Cindy, Thanks for the encouragement, I know you have been fighting your own battles. Hope you hear from your insurance soon.
  4. I work in OB/mother baby (RN Clinical Director). Everything my doc has had me read says I can return in 1 week if I don't do any lifting over 20 lbs, 3 weeks otherwise. I am a working manager so I still do direct patient care, but my staff will probably take it easy on me just so I won't take the whole 3 weeks!! Best wishes with your surgery!
  5. Hang in there, I finally took a cue from you and called my insurance today. I was approved on August 20th, funny, you think someone would tell me I had been approved for 9 whole days!! The letter was mailed to my doctor's office today so hope to be making a date for surgery soon. I tried calling the doctor's office today to see if we could schedule something, got the following voice mail 'We are closed, please call back during our regular hours M-F 9am to 5pm (duh, it was 3pm on Friday, so where are you?). Oh well, there is always Monday, nope that's a holiday so no help there, darn!!

    Questioning my Inner Circle

I guess I can't say too much about keeping it quiet, I have told everyone I know that I am getting banded. I am so excited I can't help it! I noticed your sign on is 'M&NsMAMA', so I know you are a mom like me. Just let me say, you are doing this to get healthy for yourself, but you are probably doing it for your kids, too. You know it is important to lose the weight and like the rest of us have tried many other ways but need some help and the band is it. If these people truly care about you, they will support you and get over petty jealousy and selfishness. I don't know if I am just oblivious or else no one has been unsupportive to my face, but I don't care, I need to improve my health and I know that this is a tool to help me do that. So, stepping down from my soapbox, I will say: Your husband supports you and all of your online friends support you and I bet your best friend will wake up and support you too! Best wishes and keep in touch, CJ
  7. When you buy skim milk, look for 'skim plus' from Hiland Milk or 'Skim Delight' from Borden Milk, somehow they make skim milk taste fuller, less watery. Best wishes with your surgery, I hope to be joining the ranks of the 'scheduled' myself!
  8. I am waiting for insurance approval and guess what? My WL surgeon's office calls and tells me I have to see a cardiologist before they will do anything else!! I have excellent cholesterol and lipid levels and have had clean EKG's. They are all excited about an elevated CRP level. But I guess better safe than sorry. So, I will jump through another hoop (hope this isn't just more money to pay out for nothing) and hope I get a date soon. I work for a hospital, I would think they would want to see me healthier, sooner!! Oh well, hang in there and keep us up to date.

    The one thing

I want to ride horses again, ride roller coasters and not feel stared at when I go to a restaurant or the mall!!
  10. I am required to attend a support group meeting, lead by a 'certified' support group leader. I live in extreme Northeast Oklahoma and would like a meeting closer to home than OKC. Any suggestions? All information appreciated. :biggrin2:
  11. Yes, I think it will work out. I am so glad you are having so much success and feeling better! It's really weird, since I started the process to get the band I have been having terrible acid reflux and had to increase my med for that, I also had some lab done and am pre-diabetic! Guess I should have decided to have this surgery last year and then I would feel great, too. I am glad your doctors support you, it has taken me 3 years to convince my family doctor to write a referral letter. He has always supported my efforts to lose weight, he just wanted me to do it without surgery. I guess I finally proved I needed some help and that the lap band is it! Thanks for the 'support' LOL, too bad they won't count online, I would have it made.
  12. Teri, It is a lap band support group that meets once a month. The leader has to be certified. I too have watched the emmi videos and attended a seminar. I actually have it worked out, I am going to do my sleep study after the support group meets so I will get both done in one trip to OKC. Thanks for your help! CJ

    I got approved today!!!!

Wow! One week? I am so excited for you, congratulations! Let us know when you get your date (you might have to come back to earth first!!).
  14. Yep, aren't families wonderful sometimes? I was talking to my daughter about my surgery and how much better I will feel and look and she looked at me and said, 'Mom, I love you no matter how much you weigh, you're the best', I thought I was going to cry. She is 15 and the sweetest girl in the world!! (I may be biased) Anyway, your doctor is right, you are the best part of this and by recognizing your value you have done the right thing for you and your family. Keep up the good work!

    Got my date!!!!!

That's wonderful! I hope my insurance is as quick as yours. Great job losing weight preop, that shows a commitment to the after band regimen.

    Banded Bikers II

Wish I could say I had put some miles on my bike, but alas, it is in the shop for clutch problems. My dream is to buy a new HD after I drop about 100 pounds, but I am not even scheduled for surgery yet. In the meantime, I ride vicariously through others! Enjoy your freedom on the road!

    Hi ya!!!

Not at all, I went to meet with the office coodinator on Thursday, July 31st to get all my orders for lab, x-ray, etc and on Friday I had my blood drawn, EKG, Chest x-ray and Echocardiogram done!! I only need my sleep study, Pulmonary function test and to attend a support group, then I meet with my doctor and wait on Insurance to approve. The bummer? I can't get an appt with my doc until August 20th! But this should still put my surgery mid-September, insurance takes about 20 days to approve. So, whatever you can get done to get you on your way, go for it!!!!!!!!!

    I'm Mad!!

Wow, I think we have the same sister!! Seriously, she is acting like a self-centered child and is obviously a very unhappy person (which goes to show you that being thin isn't all roses and rainbows). You need to take care of you and remember you are valuable, you have value to your husband, children, your mom and whether she realizes it or not YOUR SISTER! I hope she realizes what she has, but in the mean time, don't let her ruin something wonderful that will improve your life and health. I didn't tell two of my sisters I am having the surgery because they are both thin and have not struggled with weight. They took after mom and my other two sisters and I took after dad. I am not postive they wouldn't be supportive but I don't even want to hear about how I should just 'eat less and exercise more' and everything will be fine. So, we should just surround ourselves with postive people and let the negative ones talk to themselves. Wishing you well on your weightloss, CJ
  19. Hello Beverly, thank you for the friend request, I am so glad to find out that we have a friend list on this forum. I have a myspace page because many in my family have one, but I don't visit it often. I actually live near Vinita (way up in the NE corner, near Missouri!), and I LOVE living in the boondocks! Biggest disadvantage is I live 200 miles from the hospital where my surgery will be. Talk to you soon! CJ

    Change of heart

I went through this also. I was convinced that the bypass was what I wanted because of the number of my friends who have had it done and had good results. Then I went to the seminar in January and decided that I might have slower results, but it would be less invasive and better nutritionally in the long run. I believe it is the right choice and my husband is supportive of my having the band, he wasn't regarding RNY bypass.
  21. All I can say is AWESOME!!!!!! I am hoping for a Mid September surgery date, I had my initial visit today and am really excited. I will take the cue from you and keep in constant contact the doctor's office AND the insurance company! Can't wait to hear how you do with your surgery.
  22. I'm a nurse and I have always told my post op patients not to step on the scales for at least a week because they retain fluid after surgery. Some people drop it the first 2-3 days and others take longer. Hang in there, I haven't had my surgery yet, but I am postive it will be awesome when the weight starts to 'melt' away! Congrats on your lap band

    I'm curious....

I am a nurse and after researching both procedures, I also feel that the band is the best choice for me. Both surgeries are tools, you still have to put forth the effort to lose wt.
  24. Mamacj

    Soooo Excited!!!

awesome! Hoping to join you soon. Best wishes!!
  25. Welcome! It's nice to meet you. Congratulations on your success with the band. I am also a nurse, but in Oklahoma. I have just started my preop work to get the band done. My insurance is Waterstone and my policy also covers the band procedure.
