@@jenbaby75 Thx for posting . I noticed that you are taking the multi with the calcium. Does your multi include iron? Are you taking them at the same time? If so, iron. & calcium cannot be taken within 2 hours of each other. Just thought I'd let you know

4 weeks out. Depressed and questioning my choice.
ProjectMe replied to lclemur's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@lclemur Glad you cleared that up Just another piece of advice regarding food choices and adjusting to your new lifestyle: Pay attention to successful veterans (I.e folks who have met or exceeded goal and have kept the weight off) and figure out what they have in common (I.e the how's, why's, what's they do when it comes to food/exercise/protein/calories/ATTITUDE). Then emulate them. -
This post makes an assumption that cheating during PreOp is common. It is possible to go through the PreOp & PostOp phases without cheating and a number of ppl on this site, including myself did just that. Don't give up on yourself by cheating, whether it's by a little or a lot. And if you do slip up, forgive yourself & get back on the plan. Following the surgeons Pre/post Op plan is definitely doable.

Day 10 post op - scale did not go down
ProjectMe replied to michellc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@michellc Meeting your Protein requirement is a must for the following reasons: Proteins help with Metabolism, digestion, replication of DNA, hair/skin/nails, immune system. And liquids are a given for lasting health. Sacrificing one or the other is a recipe for a very unhealthy body...to the point where you will care less that your thin because you'll feel so sickly. -
The surgeons recommendations are goals to aspire to. Your main focus should be fluids and work on increasing the Protein each day. You are doing great Regarding the pulling sensation...also normal. Some walk while hugging a pillow. I found mysel waking in a hunched position so I began to make conscious decision to stand up straight. The more you walk, myse more you can practice this, and the better you will feel. If you are really concerned, please contact your surgeon

Wow, some of the responses, have completely shocked me. I don't like taking meds and am the kingd of person who will suffer all day with a headache and still not take anything. The Vitamin thing was a concern for me PreOp, seriously, and was one of the reasons I did not choose bypass. To the OP @@ishy1985 : I get what you mean about how it seems like a lot. Daily I chew 2 Flinstones w/iron Multivitamins, and chew up 4 calcium citrate tabs (2 when I think about it, and the other 2 when I think about it again). The only reason I take these is because my surgeon says I have to. LOL! I don't take anything extra, but will if my bloodwork shows a need.

True, threads go "left " at times. But, as someone else mentioned, I prefer honesty and straightforwardness. I personally get annoyed with some of the "hand holding" or "afraid to really say..." posts because I sometimes feel that those posts can be irresponsible, depending on the topic. The good thing about boards are that you typically get a mixture of both and everything in between. You can choose which posts to ignore & which to internalize. Overall. I feel it is important to learn from others even when I may be taken aback by the delivery and even when I disagree.

Totally frustrated and don't know what to do
ProjectMe replied to yoyolifechange11's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@yoyolifechange11 I read this thread and it made me unbelievably sad for what you are going through. It truly bothers me that your husband, for some reason, feels it's okay to repeat the same mantra to you each morning. It also bothers me greatly that you are in a situation where you do not have any power. What I mean by that is, you put yourself in a precarious position when you have no way of supporting yourself. Your husband can walk out the door tomorrow. What would you do to support yourself and your children? I volunteered at a battered woman's shelter throughout college. I read your post & unfortunately it takes me back there. My mother was a stay at home mom. She saved money in her own account for years...a little here, a little there, begins to add up. My parents have been married for 55 years. But, she has always had her own money and told all of us girls to never rely on a man to "take care" of us. life's too short, and you can be poor & miserable by yourself. I was also a stay at home mom for my little ones untl they got to kindergarten. You'd better believe that I had my own money that whole time. -
Is occasional Nsaids okay post-op?
ProjectMe replied to Hugs :)'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my surgeon that NSAIDS were not allowed PostOp. He said if I was in pain I could take Tylenol. -
Week 2... Over did it and scared.
ProjectMe replied to me redefined's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are that concerned, I would write or document in my fitness pal everything you ate, then call & speak with the bariatric nurse in your practice tomorrow...just for peace of mind. -
Substitutes for broth?
ProjectMe replied to kmingle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't stand the broth the comes in either the carton or the can. Just plain nasty. But, I really liked the boulion granules. They come in a box & tasted great! -
I get my calcium citrate chewables from Vitamin Shoppe. The brand says Bariatric Support by Twin Labs. Btw, it took me forever to locate calcium citrate...99% of the ones I found in other stores were not calcium citrate.

I'm done going through this procedure

And I thought my post was pretty valid...<sigh> Well, maybe someone else reading this thread will get something out of it. Sometimes wonder why I bother. -
How did you talk with your children about your surgery?
ProjectMe replied to scoutmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My children are 13, 12 & 18. I basically said, "Do you know what obesity is?" Then we discussed the disease of obesity & how it has effected my health and our family members health like grandma, grandad, aunts, etc. Then I said something like, "Well, I need to have surgery to help resolve my high blood pressure, high cholesterol and prediabetes. This surgery will not only help me lose the remaining weight, but will also help me keep the weight off for life." When my youngest asked if this will be my last surgery (cuz I've had a number of them) my response was, "hopefully so, but God made man smart enough to be Dr's and to create life saving surgeries & I can't tell the future." Then my next question to them, "So how can you help your mom stay healthy after the surgery?" -

Disappointed in post-op loss so far
ProjectMe replied to Jewelgirl04's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost 60 pounds prior to surgery and had a 31 BMI and I never even had a thought to when I would reach goal let alone reaching goal at 3-4 months PostOp. I would suggest that you spend more time on these boards to see how long on avg it takes to reach goal. That may help modify your expectations to be more realistic & loosen some of the self imposed pressure of losing x amount of weight by x amount of time. -
How much did everyone lose before surgery?
ProjectMe replied to Taylor06's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wasn't required to lose, but I lost 60 pounds prior to surgery by following my nutritionists " get ready for bariatric surgery" suggestions. -
I couldn't handle sugar alcohols before surgery. It would cause diarrhea. I couldn't even imagine what it would do post sleeve. Seriously, if I wanted a piece of candy that bad, I'd have a real one just to avoid how badly sugar alcohols hurt my stomach.

I'm done going through this procedure
ProjectMe replied to humblestar25's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Personally, and this is just my opinion regarding the process...While I feel it was a lot to go through, I also feel that the process is necessary. The process caused me to lose 60 pounds prior to having surgery. I felt mentally stronger because of the process. I also felt physically stronger which I feel is important prior to putting your body through a major surgery. Even my husband benefitted from the process by losing 50 pounds. Like a lot of things in life...it's all about attitude. I took the attitude that I was going to learn as much as possible about obesity, WLS and myself While jumping through those hoops. I made those hoops work for me and my health. -
Oddly severe side effects from NSAIDS
ProjectMe replied to mrchris's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was told by my Dr that I wouldn't be allowed to take NSAIDs after sleeve surgery. I know some have been told something different, but my Dr was very adamant. -

I am So sick of getting stuck!
ProjectMe replied to Janex43's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 3 months PostOp but I personally do not experience things getting stuck. I take small bites and try to take awhile between bites. -
So I have heard contradictory stories.....why are we not suppose to drink from a straw?

My family loves the O'Charlies frozen seasoned fries. I personally don't eat them but they're gone pretty quickly. Haven't seen them sold anywhere else. I never thought to get food for myself...till now

My Vivofit is pretty accurate. Yesterday I hiked 9.5 miles based on the trail maps. My vivofit was close @ 9.46 miles.
