    The pre op struggle

Completely agree with @elode. I am on day 5 and what really helps me is making sure I eat/drink something every 2 hours. I set alarms on my phone to remind me. That way I don't reach that point where I feel like I'm starving...which has always sent me into a bad food choce/mind game spiral.

    Unjury Protein

Yes, I just used it last night when I made sugar free white chocolate pudding. Initially, I could taste a little something but by the third bite, I didn't taste that something anymore...if that makes sense. Overall, I think it was a good buy and I will continue to use it

Sick and tired of explaining myself...

I'm sorry to hear about your family...I also have more than a few dysfunctional members. I choose not to meet them at their level, because I always feel bad afterwards and it has never been worth it in my experience. In my humble opinion, start with giving respect...then go from there

Sick and tired of explaining myself...

I feel your pain and frustration. I have gone through something very similar and I also had difficulty speaking up for myself because in my family...respecting your elders and family is serious business. May I suggest a more respectful response? Is their an elder in your family that everyone respects? If so. That is the person you express your concerns with in PRIVATE. That person will take it from there and before you know it, your weight will not be mentioned anymore. in my opinion, public declarations and/or going off on family you love is not respectful nor will it result in a positive outcome in the long run.

Cramps around my ankles and feet

@@amazon It's kind of a challenge to get all the potassium you need because some foods may not agree with our sleeve but here are potassium rich foods: Bananas Tomatoes Sweet potatoes Apricots White Beans Winter squash Nonfat milk Orange juice Plain nonfat yogurt Soybeans Tuna Halibut Prunes Clams Carrot juice

Cramps around my ankles and feet

I am a few days PreOp, but based on my past experiences with muscle cramps, your cramping may be due to a potassium deficiency. If you use my fitness pal, check how much potassium you are getting. If you are not getting the recommended allowance of 3500, the side affect is muscle cramps and spasms...and typically occur when you are sleeping. i found that drinking low sodium v8, or G2 mixed with water solves the problem.

  10. My surgeon does not require a set amount of weight loss...just cannot gain weight during the process. My nutritionist, however, was very adamant on making lifestyle changes prior to surgery. He recommended a 1200 calorie, exercise 3-5 times per week, no carbonated drinks, chew food 25xs, and no caffeine. I am preop (surgery is scheduled for December. 16th) and I have lost over 40 pounds following his recommendations. I also use my fitness pal.
  11. Preop day 2 & I must say that I feel pretty dang good! Make it a great day everyone!

  15. My two youngest were born at Lakenheath I have fond memories of living in England. We were stationed at RAF Mildenhall from 2000-2003 and lived in base housing inThetford. If you get the chance tour Bath...my most favorite place!
  16. Love it! Too bad I didn't read this prior to all the questions thrown at me last week. Now I can't wait for another person to ask!
  17. Your bmi at your desired weight would be 28.3 - 30. According to bmi categories: Normal weight= 18.5-24.9 Overweight= 25 - 29.9 Personally, WLS is such a serious surgery I would choose the healthy BMI over the aesthetically pleasing curves.

    December 16th Surgery Date!

I am seriously lactose intolerant. I am using lactose free milk, almond, or soy milk. Un jury protein works for me and I haven't had any problems with Muscle Milk. To be honest, I am more concerned about the aspartame in the sugar free stuff I have to eat...too much really upsets my stomach.

    What's wrong with me?

I don't think anything is wrong with you. I remember my single days and how uncomfortable it was to talk to the opposite sex....particularly in that type of atmosphere. I found bars to be completely not my thing. But, if I was talking about something that interests me (I.e. books, sports, politics) and was in a comfortable environment, I could talk with anyone. I am now married, with 3 kids, a husband, a dog and a mortgage. I began this wonderful life by arguing with a guy (my future husband) which made me forget how shy I am Life & dating isn't like a movie. There's is no right way to talk with someone. Just relax and be yourself. Believe you are worthy and he should be honored to have a moment of your time. Peace & Blessings

Anyone stop all Thyroid Rx post op?

Definitely not a possibility for those of us without a thyroid. I am a thyroid cancer survivor and will have to take synth roil for the rest of my life. The amount of synthroid depends on the weight of the person. I've lost 40+ lbs and my dosage decreased by 25mcg. Endocrinologist said he will need to decrease again when I lose another 10lbs.
  23. Going through the military process now. It does differ depending on the base. My program required 3 nutrition classes, 3 support group meetings, psych evaluation, current mammogram, 0-2 comorbidities depending on your bmi, self referral process, that yucky test where you swallow the dye, colonoscopy if over 50 yrs old, 2 week preop liquid diet...and you cannot gain weight during this process. Some think it's alot to go through. Personally, I've learned a lot about nutrition and the average weight loss for patients just going through this before process is 30lbs.

    Omg so much pain

Babbs, thanks for your response. I was wondering how this surgery compares to hysterectomy, pain wise. I've had 13 surgeries for various reasons, all of which, the pain was manageable with meds. It's the immediate nausea right after surgery that is worse to me than any pain. I have learned to tell the anesthesiologist just how bad I get before hand and the last few surgeries were without vomiting. I'm hoping this surgery the nausea will be at least manageable...
  25. Start my PreOp liquid diet on Tuesday...and I'm a little nervous. Seems like I've tried every diet in the world EXCEPT a liquid diet!! LOL!
