    Major Stall

It could be that 900 calories is no where near enough especially if you workout. The aim is to have a 500 calorie deficit in your calorie expenditure vs your intake.

    post-op 1+ years - stretching out pouch?

You can stretch the opening from your new stomach to the small intestines. This is especially true if you consume a beverage less then 30 mins before eating, less then 1 hour after eating and if you drink while you eat. Doing this things will cause your body/stomach to push your food more quickly into your small intestines. Drinking beverages from a straw can do it for some as can carbonated beverages. Your stomach about 1-2 years out can typically hold 1-1.5 cups of chewed food. If you continuously ignore the new feeling of full which is in a different spot you will over eat, will likely regain weight. Just avoid over eating and always track your food intake even if your calories one day are much higher then you should consume. It's always good to stay checked into your eating, since many of us in the past where anything but mindful of how, what & how much we really are before.

    No interest in food

I had a similar experience for the first 3-6 months. When my doctor said my taste would change & previously "yummy" foods would be disgusting I was like yeah right! But it happened and it was like being pregnant at time food smells made me feel really sick. I would focus on getting your Protein in and not so much if you are "eating" like others or like you "should" be. If you are eating the required protein & keeping up with your fluids then you should never feel hungry. Protein is digested slowly, causing your body to feel satiated longer.

    Getting the protein in

Twin labs makes a product called invisiweigh it is unflavored protein powder and you can sprinkle a little on your food to get the extra protein in. If you are heating up foods do not add until after you cook it because the heating process especially microwaving will cause the protein to "cook" which causes clumps.

How did you get off BP meds?

Pain will cause an increase in BP as well as the surgery in general. Depending upon your body & if there is an underlying cardiac condition with continuous & consistent cardio exercise it should go down. I have an irregular heart rate from time to time so I have to take atenolol at a very low dose still.

    Internal Hernia

Hello all, I am about 10.5 months out & had my first real scare this weekend. I was having some pain & ended up going to the ER & had a CT scan done to see what was going on. There was no obvious internal hernia but the dye was backing up into my liver which is no good so I ended up having emergency laparoscopic exploratory surgery. I am feeling pretty good just 1 day out other then the medical gas making my shoulders & neck sore. Anyone else have this happen to them? The surgeon said its common after losing 100 or so pounds which I have done. And he fixed what they call the "Peterson's Defect" a know defect after RNY however they can not fix it with the original surgery because they do not know if the intestines will survive the initial surgery.

    So itchy!

I just had an emergency surgery for an internal hernia & man I forgot how itchy the incisions were! Just give it time and try not to pick/itch them!!

    Headache

Could be a hormone headache things are adjusting. However I would suggest drinking more Water. Even if you are getting the minimum it might not be enough all around. Also if you are taking an allergy med it will dry you out making you need more water/fluids. And if it doesn't resolve check with your doctor see what they think.

    Jealous and Frustrated :(

You want to get used to the habits. They want to see how you do in this time to ensure you will adhere to it in the long term. Most people have to wait 4-6 months to get a date so don't let this process get you down. I had to maintain my weight so that I could qualify & could not gain any before surgery. It's well worth the weight & the hard work.

    Four days post surgery

The medical gas they use during the procedure is known for that. Plus there is likely some bloat due to pain meds making your digestion slower. I just had an emergency repair of an internal hernia & I gained 10 pounds from all the fluids they gave me. Just walk as much as you can & drink lots of Water it will help with the bloating.

    Hair Loss

It also depends on where your hair was in its cycle. Anesthesia is not kind to your hair, it puts everything to sleep & the big side effect is losing your hair. Hair will grow back! Your body has a lot going on right now!
  12. The soda is a for sure no go! The carbonation causes a host of problems as well as its ability to push food thru faster. As for coffee at about 3 months you might be able to have it. It's very irritating to your new & heeling stomach. However you habit would be drastically cut back to about 1 - 8 ounce cup per day. There is a ton of calories in coffee if you say have a latte habit there is about 440 calories in a 12 ounce serving so that's a big dent in your allowed calories for the day. Oh start tracking your food now. There are tons of apps for your phone & it will shock you to see what you eat & please the nutritionist to see you logging your food. Be honest with the psych people I think, we'll know I down played my eating in private so my family/friends wouldn't see me eating poorly. Good luck!!
  13. I think it's great you want to change before the surgery it will only make this whole process easier. Yes the waiting is terrible!! You should be able to call your insurer and find out specifically if the surgery is covered/what requirements they have of you. I would also talk to your surgeon about the steroids. After the surgery you cannot take NSAIDs and they really don't like you using steroids due to the risk of bleeding ulcer. I would find out if they believe your need for them will be resolved thru wait loss. Good luck with your journey! I am 9 months out and couldn't be happier with my choice to get RNY.

    Repeatedly overeating

You will never really stretch the stomach just the new connection to the intestines from the stomach. Which means you are setting yourself up for failure because you are already stretching it at week 4 before you have even healed. I would suggest talking to someone at your center as to what your mental state/frame of mind is around how you have been eating. Obviously based on your post you know it's wrong/not healthy adore your long term maintenance of weight loss or initial success. Nip it in the butt now.
  15. I am sorry that happened I assume that he meant it as a compliment but obviously didn't know when to drop it. I get uncomfortable when people notice my weight loss I feel like they never really saw me before I lost half of me.
  16. Awesome! It's very helpful if they are on board and know what you can and cannot do. That way you have a gentle reminder if you aren't following the "plan". Good luck!
  17. You need to talk to them about how you eat now & what you take for medications. They will tell you what you can and cannot eat at each step along the way as well as what kind of vitamins & supplements that you need to take going forward. You will likely have follow up meetings with them as well as blood work to see if you on track post operatively.

    Introduction

Nice job & welcome to the club! Get with a group or therapist to talk about what's going on with your thoughts, you don't want to derail your progress. Definitely invest in a food scale and prep your meals & Snacks the night before. I would pack extra/alternatives because you will be surprised to learn just because eating something goes well the first time it may not the 2nd or 3rd time.

    Introduction

The best thing you can do for yourself is commit to eating better before your surgery. You should also start logging what you eat get some kind of app that allows you to log your food. Start moving and don't stop! You will find that you can still eat some of your food down falls after surgery with no consequences so I found an independent counselor who worked with Bariatric patients outside of the program I went thru to work on what lead me to fall off the wagon & eat wrong. I wish you the best of luck this has been the best thing I have ever done for myself, and it is definitely only going to continue. Because after this tool there are no more highs & lows of the diet roller coaster offers you don't want to mess up this chance you have given yourself.
  20. Ok so I am about 9 months into my journey and 100 pounds down. Even though the scale doesn't lie, nor does the size of your clothes - it's hard to come to terms with the fact your body has changed! Although I know I am not the only one whose brain has not caught up with their new body. I am now an avid runner & loving my new life! I read a lot of different health & fitness magazines and online articles but greatist.com has put out an awesome one today that has inspired me to start this thread: As Tina Fey wrote in Bossypants, “Now every girl is expected to have Caucasian blue eyes, full Spanish lips, a classic button nose, hairless Asian skin with a California tan, a Jamaican dance hall ass, long Swedish legs, small Japanese feet, the abs of a lesbian gym owner, the hips of a nine-year-old boy, the arms of Michelle Obama, and doll tits.”

    Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve

Your surgeon should be able to counsel you on what would be the best. I knew gastric bypass would be the best for me, with all my previous health problems. I have heard a lot of "horror" stories on here from both but people tend to share/over share the bad experiences that they have had. I would research them both online there are a lot of good medical articles for both types online.

    Fat free Creamer...

Get a milk frothier. I got one at target and you can mix it with your protein powder and 8 ounces of milk and it makes you a nice latte esq drink. Plus the frothier mixed the protein so it doesn't curdle when you intro it to the hot coffee.
