Instead of bread what to do?
InspirationMySon replied to Homecie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
They make lentil "chips" really crackers if you must have a cracker, low in carbs & have a good amount of protein. -
Congratulations!!! You will feel so much better when your on the other side of things. I agree that waiting is hard, and the what if's can creep in, but like someone else said remember all the reasons why your doing it. And remember all the work you have put in to get where your going!

Just had surgery 12/10.
InspirationMySon replied to robynbby123's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think it's all mindset, if you go into it thinking this is a life long change you will have less stumbling blocks then some people. I am 3 months out and I got right into walking, also for awhile certain Vitamin Water zeros didn't appeal to me, and very cold liquid was also not that delightful. But other then a few issues with dry foods feeling stuck I have felt the way you describe. It really is amazing how you feel post op & yes childbirth/s-section was way worse to recover from! Keep riding that euphoric feeling to your goal!! -
PRE OP DIET SUCKS!
InspirationMySon replied to ShannonbKSU's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will all be worth it but yeah the pre-op diet is a little draining. It really does get you ready for your life post op. -
100 lbs down and the unfortunate random things I've learned plus a few NSVs!

Us "ladies" are pretty terrible to one and another!! That's terrible that your "friends" would treat you that poorly especially when you were doing something so special for them. I have not shared with anyone aside from my husband, aunt who watched my son during surgery, and my parents in case something happened during surgery. My brother found out and told his wife, she has been very supportive & I found that to be surprising. My "best friend" has been a little suspect as well never noticing I have lost weight or joining me to workout like she said she would. I am finding that my new healthier lifestyle is def causing issues with some people, almost like they like you down better then when your up & happy. I would just say to those "ladies" MYOFB... It seems like something is missing in their lives & getting your life in order, getting healthy & reaching your goals are only bringing out their worst sides. -
Tried Something New

EAS lean 15 powder's chocolate is pretty good although it's not very chocolate but on the upside it isn't medicinal tasting like a lot of them. -
187.4 hoping to make it to my ultimate goal by the end of the challenge but that's my overall goal and not necessarily what I expected to lose during this challenge. To make goal I need to shed another 39 pounds by challenge end, chipping away at that.

I would call your doctor, it def sounds like a structure however my office said liquids would also become an issue. I would communicate with them what's happening sooner rather then later & just have them take a look. I am 3 months & have only vomited a couple times & it was all because of dry/stringy foods getting stuck. And it def wasn't every time I ate solids.

My husband works in a surgery center & fully understands surgery & the risks but when it came to me doing this he was ill at ease. But after he & I talked about it & why I wanted/needed to do something about my weight he was still worried about me personally but not the surgery. I think those who really love us get nervous about something as major as this & hearing him & his fears out will likely lead to a really good conversation.

My nutritionist said for life 60-80 grams for life because we will need it for "repairs" & sustained weight loss. I have found that it gets easier especially since I am not craving carbs or sugar. Unlike before I ate way to many carbs & not enough Protein.

I would suggest soup or the like, or at the very least something like you have eaten at home. Because butter is in just about everything when you dine out & other extra calorie/no no ingredients it's difficult to nail food down. So at 4 weeks your pouch might just push something back up or it can feel stuck or possibly you'll experience dumping because it's too greasy. I would research the place you plan to go beforehand, see what's on the menu by looking online. Make a plan and then stick to it when you get there. Also ask your server questions if you want to know how something is prepared. Happy 20th anniversary though! Try and enjoy it as best you can.

Migraines and bypass surgery
InspirationMySon replied to brokenangel84's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had migraines more often then not before RNY and took Topamax daily & a suppression med if I had a beak thru migraine. I have found that since the surgery I very rarely get a headache & that Tylenol takes care of the 2 I have had in the 3 months since I had the surgery. I hope that everyone is so lucky. -
My surgery was yesterday! Tylenol help.
InspirationMySon replied to mamamia86's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just make sure you aren't going over the max recommended daily dose of Tylenol. Talk to your doctor's office & your pharmacist between the two they'll know. I personally was allowed to take the tablets by my doctor so I am seeing different doctors def tell you to do different things. -
basket case here.. obsess over every little detail...TWICE. ha! Heads up..Rant time
InspirationMySon replied to MrsB2007's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes! The paperwork, the feeling like you had done it all but what if something happened? Your focus shifts once you have the surgery that's for sure but putting in all the leg work & research beforehand has made my post surgery transition that much better. Try to think positive thoughts! -
Celebrating our victories
InspirationMySon replied to AutumnPunkin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am actually running, yes running intervals on the treadmill for 20-40 mins!!and this is the set it & forget it program because the treadmill picks how long & how fast the intervals will be. I have lost 56 pounds, I am thinking I would like to go for another 40, more likely after another 30 I will be close to where I want to be forever. I am totally loving going to the gym & lifting weights. I love, love this 2nd chance at life, and being a healthier me, wife & mother. -
Over the counter medications; lets discuss.

"You took the easy way out"
InspirationMySon replied to shmily's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I know personally I worked with a few people who had it done & at the time I thought it was the easy way. Although at the time I was fairly fit & active & the people who got it were telling me what I should eat or how I should workout so I think I was just being a snot. Now having had gone thru the process & being exactly 3 months into the post RNY life I am singing a different tune that's for sure. I am also keeping my opinions to myself about diet & exercise remembering how much I hated people who had RNY doling out advice & not doing that. I also only told a handful of people I was getting it done, other people just thought I was going in for a planned "gallbladder" surgery so no one would be asking about surgery. But honestly I have found not telling many people has been beneficial because most don't say anything about my weight loss & those who do don't act like its drastic. -
Down to 189.6 at the 3 month mark that makes 55.4 pounds lost!

Dumping syndrome! Help!
InspirationMySon replied to Luna222's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I tried turkey again the day after it just didn't sit well had nausea & some vomiting. It's been 2.5 almost 3 months since I got my RNY. I have trouble with chicken too it's just to stringy for me. I have been fine since Friday night & thru the weekend. I also do fiber everyday in my breakfast protein shake & if I haven't gone in a day or two I put miralax in a drink. I like to pay close attention to all those types of symptoms not looking to kill my intestines, but thank you. -
I don't have a size in mind I am about 2.5 months out & I am down 52 pounds so far. I got a pair of 12's the other day - I didn't even try them on just got them & tried them when I got home I was so shocked when they just went right on. I was 278 pounds in 2012 after having my son, 245 at the beginning of my process with the Bariatric Clinc, 231 at surgery & currently 190. I am only 5'5" and my frame is too large to get to small but I was about 160 pounds in high school & I was a size 6. My goal is to get to 148, I am losing inches but my weight isn't dropping as fast as I would like. So I guess just to be healthier & fitter than I have been in years so I will stick with healthy eating & working out!

I use active/live liquid cultures that you find in dairy cases at some stores or get from a supplement store. It helps with regularity & my Bariatric program swears by them. I find if I miss a "dose" that I feel icky but I haven't been using it for weight loss. I lose between 2-5 pounds a week as it is at this point so it's hard to say if it's that. I also know it's supposed to help balance the bacteria in your gut.
-
It's a lot of trial & error but you will figure out what works for you. I am 2.5 months out & I still have some issues with food as well. Like I learned that I can't tolerate turkey still on thanksgiving Gardein products are great sources of protein when you get to that phase of eating. RNY def takes the "enjoyment" out of eating & makes you do it for nutrition not enjoyment.

Fat apron/belly hangover question
InspirationMySon replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was a belly fat carrier as well & getting down in weight the only issue I am really having 3 months out is the area around my csection scar. I do notice my skin on my belly is smooshy. However Maidenform's self expression line is only $22 for a tank top that brings it all in where it needs to be, they also have underwear at a decent price. But it's true moisturizing will help with the overall elasticity & appearance of your skin - however it may not suck back in like you'd like, only time will tell. -
Dumping syndrome! Help!
InspirationMySon replied to Luna222's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I selected this post at random as I hang out suffering from vomiting & stomach pain for the 2nd day. I haven't eaten anything new aside from turkey, but I feel so miserable. So maybe it's just dumping but totally different then I anticipated based on the descriptions that the doctors office gave us.
