Recovery when you have little kids
InspirationMySon replied to AWholeNewMama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have a 2yo as well who loves his momma & would lay with me sometimes when I rested after surgery. Every surgeon is different on restrictions, like mine said within reason on lifting. But something like weights was out of the question until week 3. My husband took almost 2 weeks off to help me when I got it done. By the 2nd week I was up & doing normal things like taking to dog for a walk or going to walk on the treadmill daily. My hospital stay was short like 12 hours after surgery I was going home. But I had no issues with pain, was up & walking as soon as they'd let me. So it has a lot to do with your recovery style & how motivated you are. I have had a csection & tubal ligation both were more annoying then RNY post op. The worst is the gas pains you can get from the medical gas they used to inflate your belly during surgery. Get your Fiber & miralax in!! The last thing you want is the additional pain of not going. You have 3 kiddos you will be so happy you did this - it's great to be able to keep up with your children & still have energy! I feel like a much better roll model now. -
Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve
InspirationMySon replied to jhammer2's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
In talking to my surgeon & the research I had done before meeting with the surgeon to decide which was right for me I knew the sleeve wasn't for me. To me was to "new" & I was concerned that it would end up with results like lapband. There is a high incidence of acid reflux after the sleeve especially if you had it before, where as with RNY it tends to resolve most of the time. There was a lot more data out there on RNY. I was also on the low end before I got RNY about 20ilbs less then you are now & I was still a candidate. You just won't lose as fast as someone who has substantially more weight to lose. At the 4 month mark I am down 65 pounds, I would do the RNY a thousand times over I have become so much healthier & active since making these changes. But in all honesty do research check out a websites like Cleveland Clinic, watch a video on the surgeries, develop a list of questions for the surgeon. Understand your medical conditions & what you take for them & how it will be impacted post surgery. -
How about some NSVs!?!?

Going back to college to get my nursing degree. -
Hello fellow September peeps!! I am down 65 pounds total & 51 since surgery and at 180 I have about 30-40 more pounds to go. I had a minor stall around week 3 & again the last couple of weeks. I found thanksgiving to be a breeze because I knew that turkey & I didn't get along well yet so eating it was challenging. And we'll pretty much everything else was off limits. And like many I didn't supply treats only the meal for the holidays so I never had the treat lying around. I did "cheat" recently since my 2yo loves shortbread & loves to try & feed his father & I... I ate some shortbread Cookies I made. But I did way better then I would have in the past & I am not craving them. I actually kind of enjoy clothes shopping now - not so much the 80's trends out there but the rest is pretty good! I am also going back to school to get my nursing degree! Happy Nee Year to everyone

Hungry lately?
InspirationMySon replied to InspirationMySon's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My nutritionist said to keep it around 800 calories still. I occasionally get about 1000 but it really depends on what I eat. All meals are planned, Snacks are planned & I go thru Vitamin Water zero like no ones biz! And have lots of regular water on top of that easily getting in the 64 ounces required by my program. I think it's more related to my menstrual cycle because I have noticed in looking back at my food logs I was "hungry" but mostly head hungry on or around the week of that. Thanks to everyone who chimed in to share their experiences! -
6 Months out
InspirationMySon replied to Ginger Snaps's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My doctor asked what I would like to see & where I would feel "comfortable". The high end for my height is 148 but I have been 155 before & looked gaunt so I said I would re-evaluate around 170 (12 more pounds to go). When I was 18 and weighed 155 & wore a size 6 I didn't have extra skin or hips from having a baby like now so things def look different right now. -
182.2... Kind of a lack luster week, although this is likely TMI I think it's because I am going to start my period:(

Tattoos before and after surgery
InspirationMySon replied to Adriane5Sims's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I understand that you love your art but you may not be around to enjoy it if you continue on the path you are on. All of us with tattoos will likely find they look different, plus they all have a degree of scar tissue under them so it will hang differently after surgery. -
Duodenal Switch
InspirationMySon replied to jhenderson105's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgeon wasn't a huge fan of the sleeve, kind of felt like it would end up like the lap band for many. He said that there is a lot of acid reflux afterwards & some other digestive issues. My surgeon did not do the DS only RNY but in his experience the RNY had fewer side effects then the sleeve, plus it can be "fixed" so to speak if you have issues down the road. Where as the sleeve all you have left is all you have left of your stomach. -
Weight loss stall?
InspirationMySon replied to Runthejewels's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are all good - around 3 weeks your body can go into Hibernation Mode because it's like what's going on?!?! It can also cause you to put on a few negligible pounds when your body rebuilds it's glycogen stores (what it uses as readily available energy). Just keep being active & try to up your mileage if you can it really helped me. -
need advice in regards to vitamins
InspirationMySon replied to hopeful paki's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I use flinstone complete chewables (2 at a time) & viactiv chews for the calcium. We aren't allowed to use gummy vitamins since they can get stuck together again in your new tiny belly. -
Compression garments?
InspirationMySon replied to FindingSassy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I buy shape wear from Maidenform it's their self expression line. They have ones that are just tank tops that you can wear with your own underwear or ones that have snap crotch built in underwear. They are priced from $22-$28 & can be found at Target & Walmart. I have lose skin & it helps me feel comfortable & look good in clothes. -
Divorce after plastic surgery and/or bariatric surgery
InspirationMySon replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had in the past been with people who specialized in making me feel like less. Then after a year & a half of working on myself & getting my head set I found my husband. He is loving & great & didn't care when I got over 300 pounds he loved me just the same. And now that I am post op and almost in the 170's he tells me how awesome I look & how proud of me he is. He also encouraged me to go back to school & get my nursing degree. I would say that being with someone who encourages us to be our best self is the only way to be in a relationship. -

How often do you weigh or photograph yourself?
InspirationMySon replied to gettinghealthymom1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh daily, but check it against the previous week once a week. I never used to weigh myself but then that's how 100 extra pounds "snuck" up on me. I would only weigh at doctor's appointments & be 5-10 pounds more then before & be like oh that's not so bad... Except it all adds up. So for me just being accountable is what I am going for. -
If your using a treadmill try the interval program most allow you to set you max speed, your minimum speed & the incline. It will allow you to get into the swing of running while spreading out your distance over a little more time, as you increase your time the interval times will get longer. I hate running but I love the number of steps I can get in by doing it.

Learn about cross addiction & discuss it during psychological. You have already identified that you had one addiction alcohol & transferred it for food. There is no harm or fowl in working with a counselor that specializes in Bariatric patients along with the programs, your program should be able to suggest someone for you. Also start tracking your food now, get an app & buy a food scale. Because once you are in a program, typically you can't gain any more weight then your starting weight & they require you to track food so they can see where you could improve. Figure out some exercises you think you could stick with forever & start doing some now. Cleveland Clinic has a lot of non opinion fact based information on their Bariatric site read up. Watch a surgery online so you can have an idea what to expect. Deciding to make a healthier choice like this should be considered long term, a lot of people think it's magic forever & they mess it up I have personally known 4 who gained all of their weight back. Best of luck going thru the process I started April 15th of this year & got surgery September 8th so don't get discouraged if it takes awhile. Also talk to your insurance company & see what your coverage is exactly so you aren't surprised along the way.

How long if at all, are you to take Omeprazole ( Prilosec)
InspirationMySon replied to Homecie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had to take the PPI for 3 months then the doctor said to pouch should be healed enough. That as long as I ate what I was supposed to & paid attention to my body I shouldn't ever need them again. -
Just had surgery 12/10.
InspirationMySon replied to robynbby123's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the best bet with the gas-x xtra-strength chewables, the strips were nasty & didn't help me either. I found the gas pain worse then anything else. -
Tried Something New
InspirationMySon replied to TEXASLADY52's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Yes, sorry just noticed this reply. And 2 scoops are only 100 calories very low compared to others so you can actually mix it with milk & not wreck the calorie ratio for the day.
