Let's talk about EXERCISE!
InspirationMySon replied to KalelsWifey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Personally started with walking and then slowly moved up to jogging and now I run. I also lift weights but not as often as I should. I run daily now something that I never did/could do before. Find what works for you. And I suggest a Fitbit flex or the like something water resistant that helps you track and hold yourself accountable! Best of luck! -
Best Calcium Citrate? Non-chewable recommendations needed!
InspirationMySon replied to VDB's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was told to take viactiv and they are palatable. Check with your center. I also took the tablets & they were nasty! But you definitely need a chewable for awhile. Also my nutritionist said if I ate dairy and drank milk daily they weren't as worried as if I was a patient that didn't. -
Long PCT section hike advice! It AT
InspirationMySon replied to alindsey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hydration is tuff because of the reduced size of your stomach you really have to keep up. There is no catching up anymore. Protein bars and some granola might be fine. I had my bypass September 2014 and I can eat granola & I do protein bars, personally I like think thin they have no sugar compared to a lot of them. You will get into a groove especially if you really hone into activity & you will know that you need to eat more & drink more when it's physically demanding. Like today I did a lot and it was hot for the first time so I am paying the price now. -

Doc says no vitamins?
InspirationMySon replied to Flairness's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should be getting follow up blood work to make sure all your levels are good so I would think his advice is based off from sound past experience. If it makes you uncomfortable still ask him if you can take flinstone complete chewable or the like. I know my program has sleeve patients taking vitamins, calcium daily & B12 at different intervals depending upon your levels. I would be concerned as well, check in with the doc or nutritionist in your program. -

I'm full all the time
InspirationMySon replied to Rochoa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would talk to your surgeon. It doesn't sound normal. You will fill up fast like a spoon full or 2 and your done. And when your just drinking a sip or 2 of water and you're likely to need 15 mins before you can have a little more. However if your struggling to get liquids in I would consult with your surgeon. Hope that helps. -
So I went thru this post and added I think everyone with an email an put a like on it. If you get a Fitbit request from a lady's picture who looks like she went a little nutty with a smokey eye I was mombie (zombie) for Halloween this past year it's my profile pic at the moment;) I had 6 jawbones in a years time because they all stopped working. I love the Fitbit and if Target could keep the charge hr in stock I would buy one however I need new running shoes first! Let's keep each other motivated!!

Rapid weight loss and wrinkles
InspirationMySon replied to lisaecho's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If your face was well taken care of before hand you should be ok. Something to think about is your age, as you get older your skin loses its ability to "bounce" back. Your neck is more likely to have lose skin if you had a lot of weight in that area. If you had existing sun damage or were a smoker it might be noticeable. But really people tell us we have a pretty face when we're heavy to make us feel better a majority of the time. So just take care of your skin like you always have and work on getting healthy. -
Same here, it was like being pregnant all over again. It was really weird and for me almost as quickly as everything became revolting I reverted back to being able to smell things again. It was getting back to how things tasted that is still a work in progress, even almost 7 months out I will sometimes encounter a taste that is "yucky".

I bought a milk frothier & I make chai teas at home Hood Simply Smart Fat Free makes very thick foam it's great in sugar free hot chocolate too. As for coffee I love lattes so normally I get tall/small only and only after 3 months because the caffeine and acidness of coffee in general is very tough on your still healing pouch.

No Complications
InspirationMySon replied to Velocity's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
No complications either. Couple foods have given me trouble when I reintroduced them but that's too be expected. I do get "dumping" but not like it was described to me but def enough so that I do not want to eat said food or drink which is fine! I am only 6 months into the process & I am loving my new life, loving how active I am now. Best thing ever! -
Friendships and Gastric bypass surgery
InspirationMySon replied to leag78's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Sometimes you outgrow certain friends. I have def grown during this process as a person & I think we all learn things about ourselves as we go thru this & become stronger for it & healthier! I have a friend who I love as a person but have outgrown because we no longer do any of the same things our lives aren't on a similar path. I'm figuring out who I can share this journey with & who I don't need to waste the energy because they will only be negative. -
Gastric Bypass Surgery Progress Pictures
InspirationMySon replied to JustFluffy's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
So I didn't have a "before" but I just went for my 6 month follow up & I remember the day this picture was taken at my weight & wellness center I felt good about myself, had in nice pants, a nice shirt & top & had fixed my hair. I also was one of the "smaller" people at the nutrition class that day so it was an interesting mix of backgrounds going in. Now I look at this picture of me & can't even recognize myself! -
How about some NSVs!?!?
InspirationMySon replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Needing new running shoes because I wore them out RUNNING not because my extra weight broke them down walking!!! -
So excited for my 6 month post op on weds (3/4) it's 4 days early my surgery was on 9/8 but I went to Target & got a new pair of jeans because I could pull my size 10's off from me!!! So excited!! More over I am happy to healthy down 77 pounds in less then a year and well over 100 pounds since having my son in 2012. I am very proud of all of you who have gone thru this process with me & have experienced dramatic life changes! Ok that is me in a size 6 I thought I had a face shot but no! But still an amazing moment!!!

The fact that you are even thinking about it shows that you are going to do your best to ensure he grows up with a better sense of how & why to eat then maybe either of us did.

How about some NSVs!?!?
InspirationMySon replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I tried my prom dress on last night I can zip & clasp everything but I seriously didn't remember my back being so exposed!! But I can't believe how good it felt to be able to do it!! -
It could also be his age. I know my brother was prepubescent at the age of 9-10 & he was a heavier kid. His face & belly were very round & he would eat non stop if you let him. Then about a year later he started to grow & what was once a pudgy face & belly started to become proportionate to his new frame. I would say that if (key word IF) you don't like outdoor winter activities like snow shoeing, cross country skiing or sledding it is hard to get your child to do it. Although my son much younger at 2.5 yo loves to just get in his snow gear & go out & walk around. Although it's not always possibly because of safety ie ice, wind chill or the fact we have gotten 50" of snow in the last 5 days;) I would just suggest you keep doing what you are doing limiting unhealthy Snacks & encouraging healthy beverages. And asking him questions about his "life" outside home should help with seeing if there is an external stressor on him. 145# seems like it could be on the high end of normal depending on his height & build. So talk to his ped next visit & see what they say.

Friendships and Gastric bypass surgery
InspirationMySon replied to leag78's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It seems like you already know what kind of "friend" this person is. Of the good qualities she may or may not have it appears that she by far has more sabotaging qualities which won't be good for your wellbeing post op. I guess feel people out by asking what they think about it & go from there. Join a local support group for patients looking to undergo or have undergone your preferred surgery. Begin working with a Bariatric counselor to sort out your emotional "baggage" that accompanies your weight. But honestly I can be down on myself all by myself I don't need a "friend" bringing me down too saying things like she's said to you. There is a huge difference between being honest a saying some thing when you get a bad vibe & entirely other to say they only like you because of your insecurities. It seems like she's the insecure one. -
Eat MORE to lose weight!
InspirationMySon replied to bellabloom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with most of you alls points & I think sadly a lot of people get on here & look for answers instead of contacting their doctor. There are credible sources that say the body does what they termed "hibernation mode" about 3 weeks into the post surgical phase. It's around this time your body is like what happened? And it needs to convert some stores to readily available energy. I think many forget we didn't wake up obese one day so we aren't going to wake up thin. That surgery is just a tool, that diet, exercise & other lifestyle changes must accompany it. And the biggest is moving everyday & owning what we put into our bodies. How can your nutritionist help you if you can't actually tell them what your eating? Plus it helps keep you honest. And yes every program has its own set of rules. Carbs are ok, carbs are not ok. Protein shakes are a good source of protein but you can only have them for so long... Read the materials your program gave you, in need be reread them & call for clarification. We all went thru major changes & have changed a lot of things to get this surgery. We need to remember most mainstream advice doesn't apply to us anymore, and your Bariatric center is your friend. If you have moved since getting your surgery find one locally & see if they can help you out when questions arise. I just want us to all succeed & not fall back on half truths to make something we have learned is not acceptable with our new life acceptable(like eat more lose more). There are times when we are just not feeding our body enough & it will metabolize muscle & not fat so adjustments need to be made. But again your nutritionist & your doctor will know what that magical calorie number is for you based on you & not someone else. Ok off my soapbox ???? -
I am a couple days shy of 4 months & around the week of Christmas I noticed that I was starting to feel hungry. Like go drink some more Water & feeling wasn't gone. I am at a little stall this week only down .6 of a pound but I am sure I have gained muscle because clothes are fitting looser then weeks prior. I am sticking well within my calorie allowance & eating acceptable foods for my program. Ie no intentional eating of carbs allowed until the start month 7 obviously some foods like yogurt innately contain carbs but you all get what I mean. I am also getting exercise in daily so just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? Happy New Year to everyone????????
