Why is having surgery in Mexico such a taboo subject?
Miaoreo replied to jjinWA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get a new Doctor... $28.000!!!!! You got to be kidding me! My Surgery was INSIDE the US and was only $10,000. Cash. -
I second shopping at Goodwill... $4 jeans and dress slacks! whoo hoo... Now I have to tell you I have NEVER shopped at second hand stores. Goodwill or any other for that matter, call me a snob or whatever, but I never did..... NOW I am out of pants... they are baggy and falling off! So I went in to the GW up in the 'better' part of town and quickly found 3 pairs that I thought might fit. Didn't even try them on, brought them home and washed them and hung them up. Well today before work I picked the first pair, nice black dress pants ($4) size 18, They FIT! My pet peeve is my waist, it is and has always been ummmm larger, I am an apple shape. So pants that fit around the waist are ofter way to big in the legs. Certain brands of jeans (Gloria Vanderbuilt for one) fit better. Venezia (Lane Bryant) dont fit at all, even a size larger... and the legs are huge! So I will continue to look for my $4 pants at GW, I have a whole closet full of tops.

Two questions for those a little further down the line post op. I am 2 1/2 months post op and just started getting what I would call acid reflux, If I eat anything even close to bedtime I wake up 30 min to an hour later with stomach acid coming up in my throat... UGH. My Dr did not prescribe anthing for acid, but I take one occasionally. Would you just start taking one every day or continue only as needed. Or is this a sign of something more serious. This just started recently. And I might add, I can only eat very small portions. 2nd. My brother whom I am very close to and was my inspiraton for having WLS was sleeved by the same doctor in April. He now says his appetite has returned in full force and has gained 10 pounds back! I am terrified this will happen to me, I want to lose weight not gain it back! He does have an issue with his foot which is making it impossible to exercise. But still to regain your appitite after 5 months or so is scary. Is this normal?

Alcohol (drinks) consumption after sleeve.
Miaoreo replied to carolinda2815's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well so am I..... 10 weeks out and I will say it took me 8 weeks to 'learn' when to stop before I that last "one bite too much". I have even poured alchohol down the drain, when I decided it was too much. Something I would NEVER have done in my previous life! -
My sister in law calls white bread, "White Death". And in truth it is NOT good for you. I tried eating a sandwich, half a muffin, a burger on a bun.... 2 bites was all I got down, and that sat like a lump in my stomach also. White bread is made from refined white flour containing several unwholesome elements and very little in the way of nutrients and dietary Fiber. Refined white flour is produced from the whole wheat grain which is then refined and processed which removes all traces of the husk, or bran and along with it all of it's nutritional value. Then it's bleached using chemical bleaching agents which contain chlorine and dried at high temperatures to kill any remaining healthy elements. Then gluten and sugar is added. Neither are good for you and more and more people are becoming allergic to gluten. There are absolutely no healthy benefits to eating white bread. If that wasn't enough, white bread contains a large proportion of high GI (glycemic index) carbohydrates which causessugars to be released quickly into the bloodstream. This causes a rapid rise in blood sugar levels which triggers a similarly rapid release of the body’s own sugar regulating hormone, insulin. Type II diabetes is brought on by too frequent imbalances in blood sugar levels causing insulin production to become overworked. There is more... but lets just stop at White Bread is White Death!

Hi Carolinda, There is another whole thread about this titled 'Alcohol intake'. There seem to be 3 schools of thought on the subject. In a nutshell... A. The Carrie Nation school of thought. "Do not let alcohol pass your lips, least you become a drunken alchoholic!" B. The Play it Safe school... "I will do what my Doctor says to do." C. The Your'e Ok, I'm Ok school..... Which I subscribe to, wherin, an occasional drink isn't going to hurt me and moderation is the key. You chose... remembering that alchohol is empty calories and can lead to poor food choices. But only YOU know your own body and weakness's, so if you can go out and have a good time and have a drink and not overindulge in chili cheese fries, please do so. I certainly would! -
Your Doctor said you would become an Alcoholic????? Sorry but that stikes a nerve... I can understand substituting alchohol for comfort food but that doesn't make one an Alcoholic anymore that eating a cookie makes you a cookie monster!

Sandy, think outside the cereal box ( pun intended). Just because it is breakfast doesn't mean you have to eat bacon and eggs. Try a nice fruit smoothie, or some V8 juice. I like to eat half an avocado for breakfast, today I had a deviled egg! -
@@Miaoreo i've heard that eating one piece of dark chocolate is better than milk chocolate - does small amount mean one bag of butterfingers instead of two great weight loss - keep up the good work Kathy Yes! certainly! And then they take you to the ER to have your stomach repaired!

The only time I had an issue with drinking was late at night, I ate half an avacado, then decided I needed some milk..... I love milk and it has always agreed with me. I poured about a cup of milk and drank it, way to fast! I felt full and bloated, but decided to go to bed. MISTAKE, I dozed off only to wake up to the distinct pain of stomach acid in my throat! I don't know if it was gulping the milk, too much food at once, drinking the milk too soon after eating or what. But it felt like the food in my stomach was pushing the acid up my throat! Drinking gulps of Water is a non issue... you can progress past sips to full swallows but your stomach will tell you STOP after 2 or 3. -

I wasn't completely prepared....

Just remember, EVERYONE's body is different. They recover at different rates and under different circumstances.... Daily intake of calories and Fluid will affect how you feel the next day. And NO you aren't starving, remember why you did this. To force your body to burn off all that FAT! Mammals that hibernate like bears do it every year of their lives! -

Wow Winterloom, you have a lot on your plate with those kids and the dog. I would not discourage you from having the surgery for any reason. However, your concerns about dehydration are very real. I would think the timing of the surgery, how soon afterwards are you planning on going to the festival? Would be very important. I would think anything less than 6 months would be a recipe for disaster. I am only 2 months out and still learning the limits of my stomach and stamina. -
Threw an extra blanket on the bed last night..... noticed I am wearing more hoodies and jackets... so must be true.

Dark chocolate, in small quantities, is actually good for you!

I thought things would be different
Miaoreo replied to norcalkitty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Kitty, for the first week or two I could eat and drink MORE than I can now. I think it had to do with the numbing medicine my surgeon used internally. I have gradually been able to drink more than one swallow of Water at a time, but solid food is one tiny bite at a time and you will learn when to stop. Right before that "OH OH I ate too much" feeling. Just remember nothing tastes as good as thin feels! LOL -
We don't get any trick or treaters (live out in the woods). But my DH thinks he HAS to Have candy around all the time. And I am ok with that. I buy the assortments of Halloween size treats and they are in the china cabinet all year round. You know what? If I want one, I eat ONE. It's not going to derail me now, nor cause me to stall, or dump or anything else. That is the beauty of this lifestyle/eating style. I can eat anything I want, just one or two bites! LOL! Get my Protein and Water in and I will be OK!

How did you settle on a goal?
Miaoreo replied to roundisashape's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went on a very strict liquid high Protein diet once and lost down to 160. I had the cutest pair of PINK size 11 jeans.... long gone. but I would love to be that size again and STAY that Size. So I figure somewhere between 150 and 160 will do it! -

AVACADO! 10 grams of fiber in 1 cup! One of the most nutrient-dense foods, avocados are high in fiber and, ounce for ounce, top the charts among all fruits for folate. potassium, vitamin E, and magnesium. Half a California avocado has a really excellent overall nutrient profile. At 145 calories it contains approximately 2 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, and 13 grams of fat, most of which (8.5 grams) is monounsaturated fat. -

Ruskatie, I don't know where you live but is there a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods or even a grocery store that carries organic foods nearby. Corn in Peanut Butter??? Make your own or find a store that has the grinder and just dump in the peanuts and Voila! Nothing but peanut peanut butter! Of course we shouldn't be eating the prepackaged desserts, cakes, pies, bread, salad dressings, Starbucks coffee flavoring, flavored coffee creams, anyway! LOL! -
HOW DO PEOPLE NOT NOTICE MY WEIGHT LOSS?
Miaoreo replied to sherripark's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Friends at work have noticed... they knew about the surgery. But don't say much.... what upsets ME is that my husband has only said " Your face is thinner." This from the man who nagged me for YEARS about my weight. I think he is afraid I will leave him! Which is not the case at all! LOL
