Salmon/Stage 2?
Murphy'sMama replied to Big Guy 77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just my opinion...order mussels in red or white sauce ( i order the appetizer portion).. It looks like a lot... But you eat a few...& then remove the shells, put them in the discard dish...it looks like you ate a good portion of it & then you can take the rest home. -

Hi.. I am four months out.. Down 65 lbs since surgery.. I did A LOT of research on this site prior to surgery, so i kinda knew about the BM issues that people were talking about.. I take a spoonful of Miralax in my morning coffee.. No taste at all..it keeps me moving. BUT i will tell you, your poop will never be the same, and this was confirmed to me by my Doc.. -
BariMelts Vitamins
Murphy'sMama replied to carolk36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought the Barimelts.. all I can say is that I made the mistake ( sadly more than once ) of taking on an empty stomach...the most HORRIBLE nausea & dry heaves... I can only take with food.. usually i will crush it & mix with my cottage cheese or yogurt. Live & learn the ins & out of my new sleeve... -
Scared to death.....
Murphy'sMama replied to deftonestiffany's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi - jumping in as well... when i got the approval call, all i do do was walk around saying Holy $hit !!! am I really gonna do this ???... that went on for three weeks until day of Surgery. I will tell you from my own experience.. I used the 6 months waiting time to SCOUR the Web / Facebook / Articles for information about this Life Changing decision.. let's face it.. we all know it is SURGERY... But.. if you do your homework, pass the required tests.. I can ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF... was I scared ? Hell Yeah !! Do I regret it.. ? Not for ONE Effin' MINUTE !! Sleeved August 4th 2014 - HW 265 / SW 246 / CW 198 .. I am in Onederland... The best decision of my life.. my only regret is that i did not do it sooner. I wish you all the best for whatever decision you make...just remember, you are NOT alone.. we are all in the same boat. -
Concerned about consistency of shakes for post op
Murphy'sMama replied to Jelko7t3's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I use cold water and a spoon ???? i originally used an immersion blender or a shaker type bottle.. There was ALWAYS bubbles / foam.. I find stirring the protein in a large drinking glass with a spoon ( or fork) and it is relatively smooth.. Like chocolate water. This seems to work best for me. -
United Health
Murphy'sMama replied to ngoycoanaya@gmail.com's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi i have united oxford as well.. Went to meet surgeon in Feb 2014, As he accepted My insurance. His surgery coordinator gave me the list of requirements. United requires 6 months of continued weigh ins along with Cardiologist , Pulmonary, Endoscopy, Psych evaluation, meeting with Nutritionist.. I completed all the required testing and once i weighed in for my 6th month weigh in, surgery coordinator submitted all my info to United, and she called me three days later to tell me i was approved & i got my surgery date around 3 weeks later. I was sleeved August 4th.. With Dr Spencer Holover from NY Bariatric in NY / Long Island ..HW 262, SW 246, CW 199 ???? best decision of my life. 52 years old, 5 ft 3 in -
Just Got a great tip from my Doctors assistant.. PINEAPPLE JUICE will assist with cutting down the foam. Take a few sips and it helped me tremendously with the burp foamie i was experiencing.

I feel so frustrated
Murphy'sMama replied to What have I done's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everyone...sleeved august 4th...for 3 weeks i suffered from a swollen esophagus which made me constantly burp up foamies, because everything was soooooo slow going down. They did another Endoscopy on me 4 weeks out and then prescribed 40 mgs TWICE A DAY of Omeprazole. I have been on 20mg once a day for years & years. They also gave me Cerafate to take 3 times a day ( 2 teaspoons liquid) the usually give this to patients to treat ulcers as i had additional irritation due to burping with some vomiting. Long story short...it has gotten somewhat better.. What have I learned as the most important lesson? Portion out 4 oz for a meal.. Then TAKE AWAY a third of that. Most of the uncomfortable feelings come from eating too much food. I have to remember that my new stomach is the size of a fat Sharpie marker. ONE EXTRA BITE & i pay for it...for hours. Just my 2 cents. ???? -

Hi - just checking in.. I am 4 weeks Post OP.. sadly.. I am still having the Burp / Foam issue... spoke to doc last week & he called in Prescription for Reglan,( 5mg @ 4 x's per day ) which is supposed to help with "gastroparalisis" or something like that.. basically to WAKE UP the muscles in my esophagus to push the food down. well at day 4 .. not much improvement, which means I will most likely go for an endoscopy this week so doc can perhaps dilate my esophagus to make the opening into my pouch a bit bigger.. blah blah blah... Other than that I am STILL happy with my decision & do not regret it at all !! Hope everyone else is doing well !! -
Hi Everyone.. Thought I would jump as i am also having the same issues.. Sleeved on 8/4/2014.. had to stay in hospital 5 days as the contrast would not go down fast enough..did liquids for 2-3 weeks.. started to go to VERY soft foods.. and I have been dealing with foamies / burps / regurgitating.. spoke to Doc last week - & they prescribed Reglan @ 5mg - 4 x per day.. I am starting on day 5, but I cannot drink anything for HOURS after I eat as it will not go down due to the food / saliva in my esophagus. Will check in w/ Doc today - but it looks like I will have to have an Endoscopy this week to see if they can dilate the opening to my pouch.. i am hoping that it is nothing more serious than that.. Keeping my fingers crossed. MM

2.5 weeks out feeling lost- HELP!
Murphy'sMama replied to MizzouFan1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone - 21 days Post Op.. I too am having issues with Vitamins. I am starting the soft food stage ( moist fish.. watery mash potato ) but I tend to have a constant issue with Productive Burp & Foamies.. The issue is that find it difficult to swallow my Vitamins with Water - so I bought the Bari Melts in: Multi, Calcium, B -Complex & Iron. I can JUST tolerate the chewing of the Tablets & then sip water to get it down.. but I find that EVERY time & eat the Iron pill ( its very tiny ) I get nauseous. Any feedback on the Iron / Nausea issue? -

Murphy'sMama replied to 1cutechubbychiq's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey Everyone, so I am 16 days Post Op.. still struggling with anything other than full / Clear liquids...Saw the doc last Weds.. he said everything looks good, took all my vitals .. blah blah blah.. i explained to him that I was having the "Productive Burp" syndrome ( which means I regurgitate foam ) after I ate maybe too much pureed cottage cheese(?).. anyway - he said do another week of clear liquids.. & slowly try again on the pureed stuff... so I tried a Protein shake ( powdered cause I can make them as thin as I like ) and i cannot get all the liquid down in order to get my 30 gr of protein.. & sure enough.. a little while later .. the dreaded PB. BUT.. as I sit here & write this.. about an hour ago I took half of a Dannon Light & Fit greek yogurt cup.. mixed it with some low fat milk to make it soupy...and so far so good ( keeping my fingers crossed ) I know I have lost more weight this week, but i don;t want to be obsessed with the scale- so I only weigh myself on Thursday... This is just a small bump in the road.. otherwise I feel great.. I do not regret this decision for a moment. Hoping everyone else is doing good. -

Hey Georgia.. Yes 4 very Small incisions & 1 is less than 2 inches..i am feeling really good.. And yes the staff at mercy was fricken amazing.. The bariatric wing holds about 7 beds.. We all had private rooms..they were so incredibly great..just be prepared.. They DO WAKE YOU UP EVERY TWO HOURS to walk around the hallways/ wing in order to promote circulation.. Geez all i wanted was a full nights sleep! I am doing my best to sip sip sip.. I ended up pureeing some non fate cottage cheese with a bit of unsweetened applesauce, & put in some unflavored unjury protein. Stayed down nicely ( ok ..i used an espresso spoon to eat it & got about 7 bites). I really am amazed that monday is a week already..getting all my vitamins on a schedule throughout the day is proving to be a task.. But i'll get there. Believe me 6 months will go by VERY FAST. -

Any other August 5th surgeries!?!?!?
Murphy'sMama replied to Alex C's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all..sleeved on monday 8/4..did the swallow test yesterday.. No leaks, but my peristalsis muscles ( the ones that push down the food thru your esophagus) seem to have fallen asleep temporarily from anesthesia. This stops the flow into my pouch.. Which means i cannot stay hydrated on my own..which means i must stay until it wakes up again.. Sigh... Other than that...no gas pains.. Not really uncomfortable at all.. Just a bit tender on my belly..i got 5 incisions. Hopefully be out by tomorrow. -

Hi everyone.. Got sleeved on monday 8/4...was hoping to get out on tuesday.. But i did my leak test and a portion of the contrast would not go down and stayed in my esophagus.... I ended up regurgitating the left over contrast through out the night and they are doing another round of GI Testing this morning...doc said he did endoscopy after surgery and saw nothing out of the ordinary..they are hoping it was just swelling in my throat and that the antibiotics i got thru the night will have helped..other than that i feel good...5 incisions.. Did all my walking.. No gas pains..i am just hoping to go home. The staff at Mercy Hospital have been amazing..i will keep you updated. -
I too am getting sleeved tomorrow 8/4... I had to call the surgery coordinator on friday to get my arrival time... Do you have your arrival / check in time?
