Too fat for lapband?
kathystrick replied to memeluv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The way my doctor put it was the average lap band patient loses about 40% of their excess weight. To get an average, there have to be high and low numbers. You can be as successful with the band as you choose to be. If you eat like you're supposed to and exercise, you will be more successful than if you graze all day and sit on your behind. I have 160 pounds to lose myself and my doctor has been very supportive of my decision to be banded. I would definitely seek out a second opinion. Good luck to you! -
Today is my first day on a combination liquid and Atkins-type diet. Based on what I am reding here, I am not looking forward to the next 2 weeks!
-
I had my pre-op appointment yesterday and the only medications my doctor specifically prohibited were Advil, Aleve, etc. He said to take Tylenol for headaches. I think I would call and ask.
-
Glad to see reports coming in and everyone doing well. I had pre-op today and start my diet tomorrow. Two more weeks!!

Hello from Sherman, Texas

That's funny because I was just telling my husband today at my pre-op appointment that I thought that was one of the things I am most looking forward to. -

Glad things went so well with your surgery. Congratulations on your weight loss. You're doing great! -
why are people such HATERS!!!!???
kathystrick replied to gg2007BandSTAR's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You answered your own question. A lot of the time, the people who have a negative attitude about WLS have never fought the battles we have trying to get control of their weight because they have never had a weight issue. That doesn't make them right or you any less knowledgable about what is right for your body. That just adds one more name to the list of people you will amaze with the new you once you have surgery and that weight is gone forever!! -
having problems slowing down when eating
kathystrick replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband is a very fast eater and I have found if we are eating together, I also tend to eat faster. I have already told him he will have to slow down once I have surgery because of that. We'll see how that goes. I agree with what someone else said, try to talk between bites and chew really well. If you notice you have been distracted, bring your focus back to your meal and take note of how full you feel. And remember not to drink!! -
My mom also "spilled the beans" for me. I had told her, my husband, and my son. I was planning to also tell my brother, but she beat me to it. Then, my uncle calls one day and asks me how much longer until I'm ready for surgery. This was after I speciaifcally asked her NOT to tell anyone else. Kinda made me mad at the time. Now though, I find I ma telling more people as my date gets closer. I'm still not yelling it from the rooftops or anything, but if it comes up, so be it. There are still a few people I defintitely won't share with (and am hoing no one else finds the need to), but I am a lot more open about it than I was at first.

On the pre op liquid diet
kathystrick replied to LeslieR041906's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor does not require an all liquid pre-op diet, only high protein, low carb, but I am thinking of doing the all liquid anyway. Do those of you who are doing the all liquid think that would be a mistake? -
Can't stop eating!
kathystrick replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I started a pre-pre-op diet and was doing great. Then, I got my insurance approval and surgery date. Since then, I have been eating anything I can get my hands on! It is SO frustrating!! So you are not alone on your pre-surgery binge. -

"Last Supper Syndrome"
kathystrick replied to rondawood63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds like a good idea! :tt2: I am less than 3 weeks from my surgery and less than 1 week from my pre-op diet and I am eating like a mad woman!! I had reallly been doing well up until I got my approval and it has been an almost non stop binge ever since. -
Sorry you are feeling so bad. Hope it starts getting better soon!

Did you hear anything from the doctor today? -
Haha BBK!! Exactly who I was thinking of! Have you looked at the top of his head (when it isn't covered by a bandana of course)? It almost looks like a wig!
-
OK, but I have to take issue with seeing all these hair band rockers on TV now and they are still wearing the eyeliner. Time to give it up, for sure.
-
This list just keeps growing! It really would be interesting to know what is the most people ever banded in one month. This group would have to come close to being it I would think!

That's the one I bought in bulk too. I have only bought the vanilla, but I like it. It has no after taste. I am going to try the chocolate too. Have you cracked yours open yet? I ordered the samples for so I can add some variety to my liquid diet, but don't see them as a long-range thing because it can get costly. I ordered 9 samples and it was like $20!

Hi and welcome to LBT! Congratulations on the decision to get your band. Hope everything works out for you and you are banded soon!
