    I have my Surgery Date!

Congratulations on you date! I am hoping to be a June bandster myself, but the school I work at isn't out until the 6th and my only child's 18th birthday is the 10th, so I will probably put it off until after that. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

    Six more weeks. :(

OMG! So sorry this happened!! I am glad you have such a great and knowledgable friend to help you get through this and get on a program so you will be ready for your new surgery date. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

    Six more weeks. :(

I am no doctor, but just to be on the safe side, I think I would go ahead and put myself on the high Protein, low carb diet just to be on the safe side. What could it hurt? It could just possibly help you have your surgery as planned and not end up in this same position. Just my 2 cents.

    New to the website

Hi and welcome to LBT! A slower process in what way? You do lose weight more slowly than with RNY (bypass), but you also don't suffer from the malabsorption issues bypass patients have because you still digest your food the same way and therefore, benefit from the nutrients. If you're talking about insurance, it really depends on your company. I have seen people get approval in a matter of days after being submitted, while some take weeks or longer. It all depends on the company. Hope I helped!

    No Food at Seminar

I can't imagine why your seminar would even last 6 hours. I have been to 3 and the longest was 2 hours, which allowed plenty of time for questions and answers. Six hours just seems like an awfully long time to me.

    Approved finally

I just received my approval Monday too! Congratulations! I have started watching my protein intake and trying to cut out as much sugar, bread, and other "bad stuff" as I can, replacing it with fresh fruits and vegetables. Not drinking while eating is hard to remember, but I just try to not fix myself a drink in the first place. That usually works unless DH gets something for me. Eating slowly and chewing lots is turning out to be harder than I imagined it would be, so glad I am starting to practice that now! Also, I have been adding steps anytime I can to get into the habit of intentionally adding a little extra exercise.

    Hi All

Hi and welcome to LBT! You have definitely come to the right place for information. If you can't find the answer to a question, feel free to post it and there is always someone lurking around here willing to answer. Good luck!
  12. First of all, call and get a copy of their policy on WLS. That will answer a lot of your questions. I would think that regardless of your age (there are people here your age and younger who have gotten banded), you do have comorbidities that would work in your favor. As msperson said, make sure you do exactly what it says in their policy to save yourself a lot of headaches with appeals and such. As anxious as we can get waiting for approval to amke this change once we have made the decision to do so, it only makes it worse when you are rejected because of something you didn't do. Good luck!

    Hi All

Hi and welcome to LBT! Congratulations on getting your band and that weight loss! Keep it up and good luck to you! Glad you faired well through the cyclone. I have been following it on the news and that is just awful! Living in the southern US, I definitely feel you on the sunny, humid day thing!

    What made you choose Lapband?

For me, there were a number of reasons the LB the only option. First of all, the idea of having my "plumbing" totally rerouted and having to deal with malabsorption issues for the rest of my life just didn't sound appealing. Also, should the need ever arise due to illness or whatever and I need to not have restriction, I can just get an unfill. I also know several people who have had RNY and they have ALL had to deal with weight regain much more than the LB patients I have spoken to. I know that is a possibility even with LB, but because of the adjustability of the LB, it just doesn't seem to be as big of an issue. One of my biggest problems is portion control, so the band will give me that control I have always struggled so with. Also, I didn't want the rapid weight loss RNY patients have. I am hoping by losing more slowly, I can exercise enough to tone up at least somewhat as I go instead of ending up with a small body and a load of saggy skin. Good luck making your choice and let us know what you decide!

    Awaiting tests

That's why the best thing to do is get a copy of your insurance company's WLS policy to go over yourself so you know what you are looking at before you get started and start getting psyched about surgery, only to find out you are going to ahve to do that 6 month diet or something. Also, it will let you know what sort of records they will need and any tests they might require on top of what the doctor's office does.

    Just approved!

Thanks, Pen. Funny my approval came the day after we were talking about it.LOL

    personal question

Wow! You really did have an easy time with surgery, huh?
  19. kathystrick

    Grr. Email etiquette.

What is really surprising to me is how little proper English correspondence is being taught at the high school level. I read some of the papers kids write and they write research papers in the same manner they would write or talk to one of their friends and the teachers (for the most part) accept this level of work from them because they are making an effort where a lot of them don't. When they try to go to college, they will ahve to learn English all over again because professors are not going to accept their informal manner of writing. If they don't go to college, when they get into the work force, they will be clueless about the proper way to write a resume or cover letter. It is really very discouraging.

i am staying on plan today because ...

I'm staying on plan today because I FINALLY got insurance approval and I want to be down a few more pounds when I go for surgery!
  21. Whoops! I just saw your congratulations! Guess I should read all the posts before I start blabbing! Thanks, Kat! Your approval day will be here before you know it!
  22. Wow! You had a busy day! Glad you were able to get so much knocked out at once though. Getting all of the hospital testing taken care of really seemed to be the biggest, most time consuming part for me. Hopefully you can get the rest taken care of and get that date with the surgeon moved up! Good luck!

    Awaiting tests

Glad things went so well for you. The testing is the easy part. Waiting on the insurance company, that's another story. Good luck to you and let us know how things are going!
