Am I right to be mad about this? Advice needed..........
kathystrick replied to nesser081982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with what everyone else has said. At the very least, the HR person you spoke with was unethical. I would definitely lodge a complaint against her. I know it's hard when you are "outed" before you are ready to be. It happened to me here at work as well and I was hurt, then furious because someone thought so little of my privacy that she talked about my impending surgery to anyone who would listen! Now the way I deal with it is I just don't talk about it at work EVER. Good luck and keep your chin up! -
Should I switch programs? Looking for advice..
kathystrick replied to mich's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think you should feel comfortable with everyone you deal with through this process, especially at the doctor's office. You will be having a LOT of contact with those people and if you are going to get stressed everytime you have to go to the office, I can see where that could be mentally detrimental and effect your weight loss. I would start checking into the other program. Good luck and let us know how things go! -
Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
kathystrick replied to j_war06's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I was in middle school and had to ride the bus, there was a group of boys on there who called me "Big Momma" and would poke me in the behind with straight pins to see if I could feel it through my fat. My ex-boyfriend once told me I was a pretty girl, but if I would lose some weight, I would be a damn good-looking girl. So I did - after we broke up! My son told me once when he was younger (he's almost 18 now) that he was glad I was fat because when he was sick, I was nice and comfy to lay on and snuggle with. If I was skinny, it would be like lying on an army cot! Somehow, I couldn't be offended by that reasoning! -

does medicaid pay for lap band (not medicare but medicaid)
kathystrick replied to sassie21898's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was reading about this on another site earler and there also seems to be a problem with getting doctors to take Medicaid patients for surgery. The article I was reading said that Medicaid reimburses at a much lower rate than private insurance or self-pay, so many have become hesitant about taking it. -

Starting the research & Introduction
kathystrick replied to Vidahlia's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi and welcome to LBT! I didn't see my PCP first either. I did see him later due to a shoulder injury and mentioned to him that the surgeon might be requesting a letter from him, but that was about it. He had put me on Phenteramine last year, so he obviously agreed I needed help and said he would write a letter if they requested it, but turned out my insurance didn't require it. -

At the high school level, I am allowed to help the kids out if they are having problems with putting together their work, so I will proofread and help them format when time allows. I have been known to just give them their papers back if I can't understand what they are trying to say because the grammer is so poor. I would have to practically rewrite an entire paper sometimes to have it make any sense. A lady came into the library where I work part-time asking for help with a paper she was writing. Every sentence on every page was in quotation marks with one footnote at the bottom of every page!! The entire paper was plagerized! She didn't see wnything wrong with it because she put everything in quotes and had footnotes! This was for a college level course! She could not understand why this format was not acceptable. So here comes a quick lesson in English 101, but she still didn't get it. She finally just took the paper and left. Don't know if she ever did any revisions...

Help I have Blue Choice of SC
kathystrick replied to Rebechuds's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I work for the state too. They actually covered WLS until 2004 and for some reason added an exclusion to their policy at that time. I don't know how you can get your surgery covered, but I have some information somewhere on how to appeal to get your company to provide coverage. I would be interested in pursuing this with you if you want the help. You can PM me here or email at moonchyld70@yahoo.com -
What does it take to get approved?
kathystrick replied to treyes628's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you are both covered on the policy, it will cover you both for surgery. No different than if you both had anything else done. You are individuals on the coverage. -

So glad things worked out for you and you don't have to wait too long! The field trip will be a blast and you will ahve something to look forward to when you get home. I know it kinda sucked at first, but it really seems like it worked out better for you with your mom being there and everything. -

I got home from work today and there, in my mailbox, was a letter form the insurance company. I carefully and nervously ripped it opened and began to read. "Based on the information we received in your request for preauthorization, the above procedure has been approved." WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
