 My hubby and I were walking out of Walmart last night and saw a woman with a 5 o'clock shadow. Hope I never go there either. -

AT LAST!! I no longer have 100lb to lose!
kathystrick replied to Fanny Adams's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know it must feel awesome to have that weight loss goal out of the triple digits. Good for you! Keep up the good work!! -
If you actually threw up, your stomach could be irritated. I have read on here that some doctors recommend going back to liquids for a day or two after getting sick to give your stomach time to heal again. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Hi and welcome to LBT! Good luck getting approval. Does your insurance cover WLS? If so, have you seen a copy of their WLS policy? That would be the first step. Good luck and let us know how things are progressing!

Hi and welcome to LBT. I am pre-op with surgery scheduled for June 18th. The best piece of advice I can give is read, read, read. There is a load of information on this forum, so look around and educate yourself. Good luck!

Looking for Doc in Memphis
kathystrick replied to sandymac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi and welcome to LBT! I'm sorry you have been having problems. Hope things get better for you soon. Check the Tennessee support thread and the doctors thread and you may find more of the information you are looking for. Good luck! -
Hi Crystal and welcome to LBT! I am in the same position as you with the support group thing and this is a great substitute. Glad you are feeling better after your little scare. I am still pre-op, so no advice, just wanted to say hi and welcome. Good luck!

Hi and welcome to LBT! Attending the seminar first is pretty standard. A lot of questions will be answered there that would take a lot of time out of the doctor's day if he had to answer them individually for every patient. In the mean time, research the procedure and make sure it is right for you. Use the time to educate yourself so you can make an educated decision when the time comes. Good luck!

Hi and welcome to LBT all of you! Congratulations on your decision to get banded and hope you find all of the information and support you need right here. Good luck to all of you!

Realize band .. Want to share anything?
kathystrick replied to HF2008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Check out this thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/new-band-update-realize-47058/. I may be banded with the Realize too. There is some information here about it, but not a lot. Try doing a search for Realize Band. Good luck! -
Greetings from Massachusetts! New band.
kathystrick replied to JohnG's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi John and welcome to LBT! Congratulations on getting your band. Glad to hear everything is progressing smoothly for you. Be sure to keep us posted on your progress! -
Thank you, Dr. Watkins, for sharing this information. I am having surgery 6/18 and will quite possibly be one of my doctor's first Realize patients (if I choose to be). When I was told that, I was wondering where I was going to find reliable information if the band was so new to the US. I should have known it would definitely be here on LBT. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing your story. I think I would revisit that support group if only to say, "Hey everybody, guess what?? The angry lady was RIGHT!!" Good for you for finding out what was wrong. Hope everything goes well this second time around!

when did you go back to work after surgery>
kathystrick replied to armywife4life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My full-time job is working at a school, so we will be out by my surgery date, but I am also part-time reference librarian at my county library. I am having surgery Wednesday and hoping to come back to work Saturday, but that is usually a 9.5 hour day. I am afraid I won't be able to make it that long. -
Teenagers are cruel (When they want to be)
kathystrick replied to Fernando's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work in a high school and deal with it too. I used to work in the office where I was somewhat sheltered because that is the one area they avoid if at all possible. Now I am in the computer lab, so get exposed to them every day. It's not as bad now as it was when I first started there, but still humiliating sometimes. I look forward to the day I can crawl under a desk to check connections and not have to worry about how my big behind looks sticking up in the air! I'm sorry you had to go through this. I know some days are harder than others, but you are making progress and that's what counts. Thank you for the job you do and good luck! -
Hi and welcome to LBT! Sounds like you made good progress on the pre-op diet. Keep it up! My younger brother just graduated from the police academy in December and we have a long history of law enforcement in our family. Now, my 18 y/o son has informed me he is going as soon as he is old enough!! Anyway, keep that goal in sight and let your band do its job. I know it's hard right now with no fill, but that's not your fault. Just take care and keep your eye on the prize. Good luck!

The psychologist uses various means (some have taken a lengthy questionaire, some have just talked, some have had numerous meetings) to determine that you are capable of sticking to the plan, you don't have unrealistic expectations of the Band, you don't have an eating disorder which could cause problems if you are banded, and that you know it will be a life-long commitment, among other things. Everyone's experience has been different. The main piece of advice I can give is to use whatever doctor your surgeon refers you to instead of striking out on your own, unless you are already seeing someone. Most surgeons have a group of doctors they work with for all of their testing and they know exactly what the surgeon is looking for. Good luck!
