My husband was less than receptive of the idea of me getting a band at first too, for basically the same reasons you have expressed. I tried to explain to him that it isn't like that with the band, but he didn't really get it until he went to an appointment with me and heard it straight from the PA. He has also realized that by my being more healthy, we will be able to engage in activities other than eating to spend time together because I will be able to do more physically and won't get tired so fast. Remember, you are doing this for yourself, not your DH. Good luck and I hope things go well for you!

insurance denied need help
kathystrick replied to annetsteph's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It seems a lot of policies have this requirement. If you have not completed any of the 6 months, do it and resubmit. I can't believe your surgeon's office even submitted your paperwork if you had not yet met all of the requirements. What ever you do, don't give up!!! -

Lap-band Convention
kathystrick replied to CoachCher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am from SC too and hubby said he is going to do his best to see that I can go. I was planning to fly, but if 2 of us went together, maybe we could rent a car and tag-team driving so we could both afford to make it? We could possibly even find others willing to go along and make it even cheaper! -
Thank you all for your kind words. As a parent and wife, I just can't imagine what these families have gone through in the past 24 hours. The deputy's wife was out of town when her husband had the accident and was due back in town yesterday. The sheriff and lieutenant met her at the airport yesterday to give her the news.

No, she didn't know him. She was walking home from work and he was riding by in a cab. He had the cab driver stop, got out of the cab, and when the cab driver pulled away, he started beating her. He then dragged her into some nearby woods, tied her up, and raped her, then beat her again and left her for dead. She crawled out of the woods, naked from the waste down, into the parking lot of a Krispy Kreme donut shop, where the drivers were loading their trucks for morning deliveries. One of them heard her calling and went over to help her.

The band is just a tool. It will be as successful as you let it be. If you change your eating habits, exercise and do what your doctor says, you will be successful. If you continue eating the way you always have and don't exercise, you will fail. I hope you are able to find success. Good luck!

Cheating..No, not with food!
kathystrick replied to kimalicious's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My first husband cheated and my second husband has cheated. I am NOT a cheater, would never even consider it (those damn parental morals and stuff for me too Pix!). To me, cheating is any behavior you do involving a person of the opposite sex (if you're straight of course) when your partner isn't around that you can't do when they are. Dh plays in a band, so spends lots of weekends out of town without me in bars where women will readily throw themselves at the feet of whatever band is there for the weekend. This posed a SERIOUS problem for us until about a year and a half ago (we have been married for 9 years). I was having stroke-like symptoms and was admitted to the hospital for 3 days having tests until they figured out what was causing it. During that time, when he realized how easily it could all be over and he would never have another chance, he straightened up. I have had no reason to suspect him of anything since that time, but still keep a close eye on him and probably always will. Dealing with the anger and hurt from all of that has been a BIG part of the head work I have had to do in preparation for surgery. I never realized how much I internalized all of those feelings and everything I had never dealt with! -
Feeling I may not be approved
kathystrick replied to ready_2_live's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry about spilling your guts right off the bat...that's what we're here for! Unfortunately, a lot of insurance policies do require proof of doctor supervised diet for anywhere from 3 months to a year before they will cover surgery. Don't let that discourage you though! Go to the seminar and get started with the surgeon. While you are undergoing the doctor supervised diet, you can also get your pre-op stuff for the surgeon out of the way and should be ready for submittal at the end of that 6 months! Plus, along the way, you will be getting a jump start on your weight loss and learning some great new eating habits you will be able to use post-op. It's just one more hoop the powers that be sometimes find necessary to prove how much we want surgery. Keep your chin up and plow on with your eye on the final prize - a happier, healthier, thinner you! Good luck!! -
when did you go back to work after surgery>

I would think so because of the stitches. Isn't it typically something like a 10 pound limit? -

Informational seminar scheduled for June 2nd
kathystrick replied to Bjornsyouruncle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was already familiar with Dr. B. Tribble from a few years ago when my mom was sick and he and his brother worked on her at separate times. When I found out he is now doing Lap Band, my decision was made. He has a great bedside manner and is just an all around good guy. Of course, I still went to their seminar and verified his experience and everything. I have been happy with him and his staff is just awesome. They made all of my appointments and just called to tell me when I was supposed to be where. It has really been a pleasant experience. Good luck and keep in touch! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask away. -

State coverage for WLS
kathystrick replied to kathystrick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think state employees should have the option of purchasing coverage if they choose. If it weren't for my DH's insurance, I would not be preparing for surgery now. -

Suggested Reading??
kathystrick replied to micountryfarm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Stacey! There is a ton of information right here on this site. I would also recommend Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. It covers everything pre-op to post-op and thensome. My surgeon's office recommended Before and After by Susan Maria Leach, but she is a bypass patient and I didn't find it as useful from the band perspective. For motivation, I enjoyed Fighting Weight by Kaliah Ali. Her story is very inspiring and she didn't have the kind of childhood you would expect. Hope that helps. Welcome to LBT and good luck! -

Hi! I am from Sumter, so not far from you. Which program are you using? I am using Dr. Tribble at the Weight Management Center through Baptist. Welcome to LBT and good luck going through the process. If I can be of any assistance, don't hesitate to give me a shout!:leaving: -
Hi and welcoem to LBT! Are you on a pre-op diet? The next 10 days will pass before you know it. Good luck!

Anyone have trouble getting on this site?
kathystrick replied to bandingjulie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
A lot of the time I access from work and since I work at the public library, I am on a network and that causes me problems on occasion. When I log on from home I generally don't have any though.
