when do you start getting rid of clothes?
NewMe_2014 replied to Wires's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The hospital I'm going to for my surgery has a monthly support group and part of that is a clothes swap so people don't have to buy new clothes as they lose. I'm hoping to participate in the swap! Surgery isn't for a few more weeks yet. -
August Sleevers Check In
NewMe_2014 replied to Sweet Pea STL Sleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found out yesterday that August 25th is my surgery day. I am so ready to get this done and start living a new life! -
Who did you tell about your surgery? Friends, coworkers?
NewMe_2014 replied to happymama2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've told 2 coworkers and my mom. Aside from that a couple of my friends know that I'm thinking about it but they have no idea how far through the process I am. I will tell my brothers at some point either before or after the surgery. Really I don't care who knows after the surgery, but before I'm keeping pretty quiet. I already get enough stupid comments about my twins, I don't need to add more people commenting on my decision to have WLS. -
Calling all August Sleevers!
NewMe_2014 replied to Tracis weight loss journey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got my tentative surgery date today... August 25th! It won't be set in stone until my final review appointment on the 11th, but my tests are all great so there shouldn't be any roadblocks at the review. I've been on a 1,000 calorie diet, 100 g of Protein and under 80 carbs per day for the last few weeks. I've been told that I'll need to cut my carbs down to under 20 per day as of the 6th for the pre-op diet but they didn't mention anything about doing liquid only. I will stock up on my Vitamins and some Protein shakes at my consent signing appointment on the 13th. I've already purchased a sample pack of the shakes they sell and some from unjury so that I can figure out what I like best. Glad to be joining the August sleeve group!! -

The place I'm going is kind of a one stop shop. The weight loss center has the surgeons, NUT, and psych all right there. My surgeon is the one who did my endoscopy in fact. We also get a nurse coordinator who keeps track of all of the tests and makes sure you're scheduled for the right appointments. My first appointment was 4 hours long and during that appointment I had an EKG and all of my measurements taken, then I met with a physician assistant who assists with the surgery and we talked for about an hour. He gave me all kinds of information and answered questions. I briefly met with the surgeon, then I met with the psychologist. She asked me some questions, I was totally honest in my answers and didn't have any problems. The dietitian came in and we discussed how I should be eating and what eating would be like after surgery etc. She gave me a packet full of meal suggestions and has me logging my food with a plan to keep calories under 1100, Protein about 100 grams and limit net carbs to less than 80 each day. I had all of my blood tests at my PCP and he submitted the orders for my endoscopy with the surgeon too. I had a follow up after two weeks with NUT and psych. I haven't been having any issues so it was a quick appointment. Now I go in on the 11th for my final surgical review and I'm tentatively scheduled for surgery on the 25th! As a self-pay I'm on a fast track. Most insurance who cover WLS require you to go through a 3 or 6 month medical monitored weight loss program prior to surgery. I did have to sign a form stating that I would not gain weight between my first appointment and my surgery, but that's all. -
I've been lurking . . . time to post . . . really nervous

Another Washingtonian here. I don't have a date yet, waiting for my final review appt with my surgeon and then we will get scheduled. I'm hoping for the end of August, but I don't honestly know how far out they are scheduling. I'll be going to Swedish First Hill. I'm self-pay so it's all happening very fast. I've thought about this and researched for years but finally made the decision to do it and I'm happy excited and terrified at the same time. -

I had my seminar appointment almost exactly one month ago and my first surgical appointment just over two weeks ago. I'm self-pay so I don't have to wait 3-6 months on medical monitored diet, but I did start my medical monitored diet right after my first medical appointment. So far I've had my initial appointment with the surgeon, psychologist and dietitian. An appointment with my primary care who ordered all of my blood and urine tests. An endoscopy, and today I had my second appointment with my dietitian and psychologist. My next steps are a final review appointment with the surgeon that I'm hoping to schedule for next week and then my consent appointment which will be two weeks prior to surgery. I can't believe this will be happening in a month or so! I'm down 11 pounds on the diet they gave me just two weeks ago. It's exciting and terrifying all at once. Good luck on your journey!
