Sleeve Pain vs Cesarean Pain
Debbie Jean replied to theatrejo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've had both. C section itself I thought was more painful by far. I had a post op infection so that may have made it worse in the long run. Sleeve surgery itself was so much easier. Much less pain for sure. I was out of work for 2 weeks but could easily have gone back after a week. I have a desk job, though, so that makes a difference. The one thing you may struggle with is fatigue and limited food intake. I was on full liquids week 1 post op and purées by the 2nd week. Just plan your food and rest as much as possible. If you could do the C section, the sleeve should be fine. ???? -
Worst Restaurant Food You Ordered?

It's probably because I'm 62 but as I'm reading this thread I can actually feel my arteries hardening! LOL -
That's awesome! Thanks so very much, Steph, for all your hard work in keeping up with the challenges. I know I love having that extra motivation to keep me going. You're the best!! ☺️

Got it! Thanks so much -
Mine allowed coffee on discharge from the hospital. I have had no issues. Since there are such widely divergent perspectives on the subject, you need to follow the directions you get from YOUR doctor and nutritionist.

Aching knees and joints.
Debbie Jean replied to Future skinny girl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
All your medical devices are allowed. Call your airline and tell them you will need wheelchair transport. They will have someone there to take you through security and to the gate. You should get priority boarding. Believe me this is done all the time and it will make your journey so much easier! Safe travels and best wishes! -

Cottage cheese question
Debbie Jean replied to punklandia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually prefer the taste of the 4% so that is what I buy. My portions are so small the difference in the 0-2% which are also sold here is negligible. Enjoy! -

My biggest fear with VSG
Debbie Jean replied to AllisonK1986's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The good news is that if you eat carbs you crave carbs. For me the opposite is also true. Now that I eat almost no carbs I no longer crave them the way I did. And I NEVER thought I would say that LOL Hang in there and you may have the same experience ???? BTW my surgeon says 65% of excess is the average weight loss with the sleeve. That's how she came up with 165 as my "goal". Started at 250 and at six months have reached 173 so almost there ????. At only 5' I'm going to keep working for more but at 62 I feel so unimaginably good, it's insane! -
Eating out - I just need to vent.
Debbie Jean replied to jhclikesshopping@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely leave a review on YELP. In this day and age, many people need to make changes in items as listed on the menu. I'd want to know how inflexible this restaurant is. BTW, I simply mention I had stomach surgery when I eat out. They certainly don't need to know anything about WLS. The card is meaningless anyway since you can print one off the Web. Can't say I order from the children's menu though. appetizers, salads or side dishes usually are more suitable to my needs. Post that review! People need to know! -
Osteoarthritis at 32-losing weight with diet ONLY?
Debbie Jean replied to BandedMi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
See another orthopedist... someone who specializes in joints. I say this as someone with 2 knee replacements. I had them done at 60 but nursed them along many years before that. There are options that can help someone at your stage... injections, medications and creams. You should definitely ask about physical therapy. There are many exercises you can and should do that will spare the joint but build up the adjoining muscles. This will help relieve some of the pain and help with your weight loss. Once you are confident in the type of exercise routine you need, you can continue on your own. Hang in there! I'm sending good thoughts your way ☺️ -
Me, please ????

I'm confused. I checked My Fitness Pal and found no dried prunes with more than 1 gram of Protein ???? All have well over 20+ grams of carbs, however. Are you sure you aren't getting the 2 confused? I found Smooth Move tea effective in helping with constipation. Also be sure you are drinking plenty of Water.

Don't you just want to look at them and say, "Oh, my God! I had nooooo idea! Thank you so much! It's so simple an idiot could figure it out. And to think I never thought of that. Boy, I should have just talked to you rather than an actual doctor. You really are an f*ing genius!" Voice needs to be dripping with sarcasm while rolling eyes ????

Diabetes and the Sleeve
Debbie Jean replied to GossipGirlxoxo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Diagnosed type 2 diabetic 13 years ago. Eventually on metformin, januvia, glimepiride, victoza and 55 units of insulin. Sleeved 12/23/14 and down 77 lbs. Stopped all diabetes meds after surgery. Saw my endocrinologist last week and had an A1c of 5.3 ????. He was beyond thrilled. He admitted that he didn't think I could ever do it and was so pleased I proved him wrong LOL -
I started incorporating salads at about 8 weeks. Never had a problem and they are one of my favorites! I find cooked vegetables very unappealing and much prefer them raw. At 6 months I have been fortunate that I have never had issues with any foods. Have yet to try Pasta, but on the couple of times I've had brown rice it went down easily. With the exception of a 1/2 a piece of toast every couple of weeks I eat very few carbs. The less I eat them, the less I want them.

Blood pressure after
Debbie Jean replied to Check22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also not normal LOL. HBP runs in the family and there is according to my doctor a strong genetic component. I was on a combo pill of 3 different meds. Doc reduced it to a pill that is 2 meds in one. So a decrease of med for sure. He tells me I will likely always need BP meds... as he put it "even skinny people can have HBP". I did however come off all diabetes meds completely after surgery. At one point I was taking three different pills and 55 units of insulin. Just got my 6 month post op blood work back this week and my a1c is 5.3! ☺️ -
