I'm in the same d*mn boat, and it feels like this boat is full of holes and sinking fast:wink2:. I'm trying to take it one day at a time, actually more like one meal at a time. Last nite I went to bed and thought to myself "Yes you did it you made it through another whole day!" I'm also trying to remember that the weight I lose now will be weight that I NEVER see again!! WOOOOOW Definately woulda opened a can of whoop ass on her!!! You showed much restraint, good for you. I had an incident in the parking lot of a Weight Watchers meeting (hmmm maybe that's why I'm fat--subliminal message:lol:) This crazy lady started yelling at me about where I parked, legally mind you, I was trying to walk away with my 18 year old daughter and ignore her when she busted out with "See how you f-in puerto ricans are, so uneducated!" Well that was all she wrote, cause first off I'm not puerto rican, spanish but not puerto rican (thanks for the stereotype biyattchh) and second I have my Master's. Well my daughter and I have the same temper so that crazy old fat lady who should have been on her way into weight watchers with us instead of worrying about where I parked, got quite a piece of our minds. (That's what she gets for messing with the crazy spanish chicks:tt2:)

Angie That is sooo funny, I got an "save the date" email on Friday for my 20 year reunion and found out my surgery was approved Monday. I didn't go to my 15th cause I was a fatty it's gonna feel great to walk into the 20th with my hot BF and to be skinnier then high school!!:smile: Even if ur hubby doesn't make rich by the reunion nobody else has to know rent a Mercedes and get some fake bling---nobody will know the difference, they'll be too busy staring at ur FABULOUS BOD!!!! Hehe at least that's what I'm planning.:eek::w00t:

I think everyone's experience is pretty different. I had all of my test done in December, then had to wait for January until my insurance changed. Once the coordinator submitted all my paperwork to insurance I was approved the same day:lol: which was last Friday, and now I'm scheduled for my surgery Feb. 20th. I think it depends on how long ur insurance takes to approve, and then how busy your surgeon is. Hope the time flies by for you:Dancing_jimlad:

HI All!! Just wanted to introduce myself. I got insurance approval and talked to the coordinator today, and it's official FEB 20TH is my date:w00t:!!! I'm from the Philly area but having the surgery at South Jersey Bariatrics. After months of jumping thru hoops, and kissing the insurance company's arse it is really going to happen. Excited, scared, thrilled, nervous, thankful. HOLY SHEEP SHIT BATMAN!

Alyssa I feel the same way, just found out that I was approved yesterday, and I was super excited for about two minutes and then I was like OH CRAP! food is such a big part of my life and my socializing, when I want to relax I go out to dinner, when my friends and I get together we go out for dinner and drinks, when my SO and I hang out we go to bars and eat and drink. It seems all the fun stuff in my life revolves around a knife and fork. So I posted my concerns, got some excellent feed back from bandsters who have been there and it helped to calm my food fears. I also remembered that my best friend, Food, got me to where I am now. And I can't wait to break up that relationship and bury her six feet under:biggrin:

I went and jumped thru all the hoops and got my insurance approval today:lol: Surgery is scheduled for the 13 and now I'm thinking to myself....WHAT THE HELL ARE U THINKING!!!!:tongue: I've been reading these boards for the past several months and I know that I'm not the only one that has felt this way, but DING DANG Y'ALL, it's really gonna happen, and now I'm scared to death!!! The surgery part doesn't really scare me cause I've been a health professional for many many years. I'm scared of how my life is going to change now that it can't revolve around food. How the hell did I let myself get so big that I qualify for bariatric surgery???? UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Sorry just had to vent a little, once the valium kicks in I'll be fine again...lol:tongue:

Unfortunately there are weight limits on the equipment that is used in the hospital. For the UGI and Nuclear Medicine stress test, the table limits are in the range of 350 pounds. As for the ultrasound of the gallbladder that some physicians require pre-op you can basically forget about visualizing anything on a patient that size. Some facilities have retrofitted their equipment to accomodate larger patients. The health care vendors are now getting wise to the fact that the population as a whole is becoming more and more obese. Where previously it was rare to have a patient over 250-275 pounds that is increasingly becoming the norm for patients. So when new equipment is purchased one of the items that vendors push is "Oh our table limit is XXX". I'm sure on Big Medicine since that hospital has a large bariatric program that there xray tables have higher weight limits. Oh and I LOVVEEEE Intervention:tongue:

X-ray tech here:biggrin: They can use Visipaque which is clear which you can mix with water and supposedly it has no taste. Generally when we do bypass post-op swallows we use it because it is water soluable. In that instance the docs are checking to make sure the patient doesn't have a leak, and barium (which is not water soluable) seeping out of a leak would not be a good thing. So technically there is another option, but wether or not ur facility has it available is the other question, it is more expensive then barium. Good luck.

Jenna Congratulations on your recovery, however only being a year out from bullimia what doctor is going to perform lap band on you. Part of the psych consult questions is have you ever been diagnosed with an eating disorder? It would seem that a year into your recovery wouldn't be the proper time to make such a drastic decision as weight loss surgery. As a medical professional myself I have personal experience where patients didn't share their entire medical history, I'm assuming because they didn't think that it would have any impact on the procedure at hand, and have had dire consequences as a result. If I were you I would make sure to discuss your history in its entirety with your surgeon, the decisions that you make now can have serious implications for your future health. Best of luck to you.

I've actually been through two consultations while trying to decide which surgeon to use. They both were pretty straight forward. Physician or nurse practitioner reviewed my history and physical, explained the procedure and how the band works. What their requirements were as far as pre-testing and pre-op diet. And then asked if I had any questions. In both of my experiences they forewarn you that documentation is key to getting insurance approval, they then sent me on my way with scripts for the pretesting and instructions to gather all of the weight loss history documentation. With the surgeon that I ultimately chose, they gave me a list of the physicians, nutritionists, psychologists that they wanted me to use for pretesting. Now that all of that is finished I'm waiting for the coordinator to submit allllllll of this stuff to insurance and waiting on approval, that I PRAYYYYYYYYYYYYY is going to come sooner rather then later. Hope this answers some of your questions.

Alot of hospitals are wireless now, doesn't interfere with anything. Only problem is some have wireless networks for the public to access and some are locked down for security. Best bet is to call and ask ahead of time. Good luck I know my laptop would make my time go faster.:ranger:
