How Closely Do You Stick to the Program?
tamg26k replied to mnmlst's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most definitely, almost to the extreme! I eat very low carb and even higher Protein than the plan recommends. No soda, no caffeine, no sugar, no breads, etc. I really don't feel as though I am missing anything. I've done really well so far. This is my 8th month since surgery and at my weigh-in on 3/14 ( I only weigh in once a month) I should be down close to 145 lbs. I couldn't be happier. I exercise about 5 times a week as well. My biggest problem at this point is not getting enough calories. Who knew this would ever be a problem! Best of luck!! -
Saturday I hit my 7 month mark since my RNY surgery, and while at the gym, I had my trainer take my picture. I can honestly say that the last 7 months have been great, simply life changing. My diet has completely changed and I now go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I feel like a new person. So far I have lost 133 lbs. since surgery! I can't believe it. I still have a bit of a ways to go, but I thank God everyday that I decided to start this lifestyle change last summer. I feel really blessed to have such a great support system in my family, friends, here, and at my gym. I just wanted to take a few minutes to share my story. Thanks for reading!!!

@@dc0520 Thank you so much! @@goregalore Thank you so much! I couldn't be happier with the office. Dr Scott was great! Best of luck!! -
I've definitely cut back on my drinking since surgery (not that I was a big drinker before surgery!) I completely quit drinking wine. ( I love red wine!) Now when I have a cocktail it is always vodka (Tito's or Grey Goose) and Water in a tall glass. (not double the vodka but double the water) I'll then mix in one of my sugar free water flavorings. Tastes great and being in a tall glass, the cocktail last a long time!

@@MichelleTN Just a FYI. I found a calcium citrate capsule at Vitamin Shoppe that I have been taking for the past 6 months. My Dr. said it was fine. Each capsule is 250 mg so I take 2 capsules, 3 times a day. I take a separate Vitamin D in the morning. They are pretty cheap and really easy to take. I hated the chewables! -

@@MichelleTN I'm 5'6. You got this! I also cut out all caffeine about 3 months prior to surgery. I was a big diet soda drinker and changing over to strictly Water helped at the beginning. I am far from an expert on anything but my best advice is: Don't weigh yourself everyday. You don't need the added stress! From the beginning, I only weigh myself monthly. Focus on water, Vitamins, Protein - in that order especially at the beginning. I remember the first few weeks thinink it would be an impossibility to even drink 8 oz. of water. It does get easier and better. Walk, walk, walk - as much as you can before surgery and as soon as you can right after Eliminate all bad carbs - flour, rice, Pasta, sugar, potatoes, bread, crackers, etc. I am a strict on this. I think it has really helped with my weight loss Just a few tips. I know you will do great! -

@@MichelleTN Thank you! I started extremely overweight (351) My doctor only required a 3 day liquid diet so I didn't really lose any weight prior to surgery. The first 60 days or so after surgery I mostly focused on Water, Vitamins and Protein, and also trying to eat small bites slowly. This is the area I struggled with the most. After about 60 days I started walking a bit and more focus on protein intake. After 3 months I really focused on my carb count and protein. I am really strict about this to this day. Very low carb/high protein diet. Less than 20 net carbs a day and over 120 grams of protein per day. In November I joined a gym, got myself a personal trainer, and started working out 4-5 days a week. I do feel so much better! Here's to the next 7 months! -

I agree with @@Stephanie Ged on the Syntrax nectar shakes - an awesome whey isolate Protein. No sugar, no carbs - great tasting. In my opinion, the best tasting shakes. I use regularly the chocolate truffle, vanilla torte, and the Cappuccino flavors. I also agree, you can add SF syrups to switch up the flavorings. I mix them with about 6 oz of unsweetened Westsoy soy milk for another 8 grams of protein. Whatever protein you choose, I think a whey isolate protein is best, my opinion. -

I agree with @@jmccape on the Syntrax nectar Protein. In my opinion, I think it is the best tasting protein with no sugar/no carbs. I upped my protein to around 120 grams a day and supplement with 1-2 shakes a day. I have tried the chocolate, vanilla, and the Cappuccino and loved all of them. I mix with soy milk and Water instead of skim milk and love it! -

Calcium vs Calcium Citrate
tamg26k replied to danihere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think those are what I took during the first month or so after surgery. I then switched to the soft chewables from Bariatric Advantage but only took those for a very short period of time. I now take a calcium citrate capsule that I get from Vitamin Shoppe and haven't had any problems. I've been taking them since October without any problems. They are only 250 mg so I take 2 capsules, 3 times a day. I also take Vitamin D in the morning as well. I hated the taste of the chewables! -
Premier protien RTD shakes are exactly what I drank prior to surgery. I think they taste great. My new favorite Protein mix in Syntax nectar brand - no sugar, no carbs. The taste is awesome. Love the vanilla bean torte and the chocolate truffle!

I was self pay. Had surgery here in US. I think I paid around 25000 when it was all said and done. Luckily, I had a family member give me a small portion of it. I then used a credit card that had zero interest for 15 months and am paying it off monthly. Even though it was very expensive, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. 6 months after surgery down 120 lbs!

What does everyone eat or drink for Breakfast? I am looking to maximize my Protein intake in the morning and am looking for good and healthy options. My go-to now is a protein pudding that is really delicious, It is just too sweet to eat every day for breakfast. This is a drastic change post-op for me since sweets were a "hot button" food for me prior. Any ideas or recipes would be most helpful.

I know that there are a lot of threads for MyFitnessPal started already, but I thought I would start a new one. Looking for gastric bypass friends that track their daily food, and who are looking for other MFP friends. My user name is: tamg26k feel free to friend me. Would love to get some nutrition ideas from other gastric bypass (or gastric sleeve) folks.

I take Centrium chewable multi Vitamins (you can find almost anywhere, very inexpensive) - 2 per day calcium citrate capsules from Vitamin shoppe(also inexpensive) - 2 capsules, 3xs a day B12 (from costco, even though it is twice the dosage I was told was fine, also inexpensive) Vitamin D (almost anywhere) Iron (capsules from Vitamin shoppe) I'm 6 months out and no longer take any bariatric specific vitamins. I'm hoping within the next few months I can switch to a regular multi vitamin instead of a chewable

I had my RNY on July 14th. I have my 6 month check up on Thursday and I am very excited to weigh in. My surgery weight was 351. At last weigh in (around Dec 10) I was 248! I am hoping to have lost another 5 lbs. or so in December. Things are going really well - eating good and working out A LOT! Here's to the next 6 months!

I was very heavy before weight loss surgery (351) and flew pretty often. To cut down on my anxiety I purchased my own seatbelt extenders on ebay. I have one for Southwest and American airlines. I usually chose a window seat so I could lean towards the window. I never had a problem and I always flew coach. Sometimes you get lucky and you wont have a full flight so you'll have an empty seat in your row.
