How much do you eat for lunch and dinner?
tamg26k replied to tamg26k's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Jonathan Blue Thanks for the info Jonathan! I think I get about 3/4 cup of food at each meal but only eat 3 meals a day. I think since surgery I've had maybe 1 or 2 Snacks in between meals. I just am not hungry. Your progress is inspiring! I ran a marathon in 2000 and my hope is to complete another one within the next 2 years also. Best of luck in all of your journeys! -
3 month-before and during pics!

@@Dabliss111114 My doctor only required a 3 day prep but I did 4 just so I could get used to drinking Protein shakes. When I decided to move forward with the surgery in April I quit drinking all soda/ carbonated beverages/ caffeine , etc. I started getting all of my Water in everyday about 3 months prior to my surgery. Could the headaches be caffeine related? How are the Protein Shakes going for you? If you are a member of costco they have a really good Protein shake (premade in I think 10 oz. servings) It is Premier Protein. This is what got me through the pre-surgery prep and the weeks after surgery, I although for the first week I thought it would take an entire week to finish a 10oz shake! They taste great! When is your surgery? So happy for you that the prep is going pretty good for you! Best of luck with everything. Although I am pretty much a newbie myself and far from an expert, please let me know if I can answer any questions for you. Some of these post/topics really helped me immediately after surgery. -

Question for vets that are 6 months post op
tamg26k posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I just had my 3 month post op follow up with my doctor and things are going really well. I've lost over 75 lbs. since surgery with little or no problems, I am wondering if any of the vets encountered any setbacks/problems during the 3-6 month time frame. I made my 6 month appointment but am wondering how important it is to keep it. The reason I ask, is that my surgery was self pay and my follow ups are no longer covered by my self pay payment. I need to pay out of pocket for all future visits with the surgeon. I am hoping I can just transfer to my PCP and have insurance cover the visits. It was hard enough paying for the surgery so I don't want to keep paying out of pocket. Any thoughts are feedback anyone can give would be much appreciated. -
@@Nancy E. Here is a link to the Protein that I use. http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/p/dymatize-nutrition-iso-100-gourmet-vanilla-1-6-lb-powder/d4-1055#.VEPR-JUtDIU I have the vanilla and the chocolate/peanut butter that are pretty good. I add a few splashes of the sugar free Toriani syrups to and a bit more flavoring.

@@jrotondella Congrats on all of your success! Your pictures are fabulous. I am about 3 months post op now and have lost abut 75 lbs. so far. My only problems is food getting stuck. I guess from eating too fast or taking too big of bites. Even though I thought I was eating slow and taking small bites I have the problem pretty often. (about once a week) Any suggestions? Do you eat a lot of meat or mainly get the Protein from shakes. @@Beni I also prefer the Premier Protein Shakes from costco. They taste great and have a lot of protein. I've recently switched to a whey isolate protein that has no carbs/sugars with 27 grams of protein in a little scoop and only 130 calories. The taste is really good too.

2 Weeks out and I gained a 1/2 pound today! What's up with that?
tamg26k replied to Janice1968's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I completely agree with @gowalking. I am only 3 months post op and have only weighed myself at doctor visits. I rely on how my clothes are fitting. Every day is different. I put all of my focus on my Water and Protein intake. I also watch my carbs really closely. Today, it has been 3 months since my surgery and I am down 75 lbs. Follow the plan and the weight will come off. Best of luck!! -
I meant I am 3 months post op not 2 months. Sorry for the typo.

I had my RNY 3 months ago today and I felt the same exact way when I transitioned to solid foods. I added up my calories and I was only getting about 500-600 a day. I'll be honest, I don't worry about calories. I don't measure my meals either. I first make sure I am getting my Protein in every day and I really watch all of my carbs pretty closely. By the time I finish my protein at meals my stomach is completely full. As far as fruits go, I try to stick to a few berries- blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, or strawberries as the carb count is lower. I also try to have a few bites of veggies at lunch and dinner. The protein and the carbs are the only things I watch really closely. As of today, 3 months to the day of my surgery, I have lost 75 lbs. I hope this helps. My best advice is the same thing that you have probably heard over and over - eat small bites and chew chew chew!

New Food For Post Ops...
tamg26k replied to lovelygirl01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@DLCoggin I would love all the help I can get and would definitely benefit from your list. Could you please email to me as well. Thanks! My email is theresa.gianino@gmail.com -
Does anyone have any suggestions for Protein bars that are not too sweet? I've tried the Pure Protein and Think Thin bars and am having a hard time eating even half of one. Also, any suggestions for recipes I can make myself would be much appreciated. Even eating mostly protein at every meal I still think that I am not getting enough grams a day.
-
@@lauramae I don't think the fat content is too bad. The one's I have only have 4.5 grams per serving and I was only eating about 1/4 of a serving. They are definitely not my favorite food, but they do have a good amount of Protein. I'm trying to get my protein in everyday but some days it is a bit hard. I'm just not a fan of the Protein Bars unfortunately. Also, congrats on your results so far!

@ I tried the pork rinds and I think it just may have been too soon for me, I was not able to eat them. Although it may have had something to do with me getting the spicy flavor. I'll give them a go in another month or so. I am 2 months out as well.

Thanks for all of the great tips! I'm happy to report the trip went perfect. A few issues with food in that some things get stuck in stoma and end up coming up. I try to eat slow and small but still have and had the same result. I'm almost 2 months post-op and have only been out to eat once except for my traveling. All in all had a great trip and didn't overdo it all. With all of the walking (10 plus miles a day) I probably needed a bit more. Here's to many future trips!

I am about 6 weeks post-op gastric bypass and have a fun trip planned to NYC. So far everything has been going pretty well with my diet progression.. I pretty much have my go-to staples: egg beaters, tilapia, shredded chicken, Beans, shaved turkey, cottage cheese, etc, as my meals. I am nervous about having all of my meals out, I have only been out to eat once since surgery. Any suggestions? It is NYC after all so I want to enjoy myself but not have any issues.

Excellent! Glad everything went so good for you. I had a pretty easy time with my surgery as well. The pain from the gas was the only paid I really had. I was able to get by with only taking 1 pain pill the entire time of recovery. I thought that I would NEVER be able to drink 64 oz. of Water or much less an entire Protein shake. It got a bit easier with the drinking and eating small amounts. Now, almost 2 months out just a few issues if I eat too fast or take too big if a bite of food. Good Luck!

Recovery..... do you really need someone the first few weeks?
tamg26k replied to bluedreams86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! Good luck with your surgery! I had my surgery on a Tuesday and spent 2 nights in the hospital. (Tuesday and Wednesday) Like you, I live alone. I spent one night with a family member then went back to my own house on Friday. I did fine by myself. I actually went back to work the following Monday! My best advise would be to walk as much as you can in the hospital. It really makes the recovery a whole lot easier! I started walking about 1/2 hour after getting in my room then was up every few hours. You will definitely know how well you are doing. Everyone's recovery is different. It is really nice that your mom is able to help out in such a grand way. Good Luck! -
@@esskay77 Thanks for the recipies! I am eager to try some of them!

I had my surgery on 7/15/14 and feel wonderful. It was a little tough the first week with a few issues but now everything back to normal. Have lost about 30 lbs since initial weigh in.
