    100 Lbs Lost !

Congrats!!! I have about 10 more lbs. to go to hit it as well!
  2. Best of luck!!! The only thing that came in handy was a "buddy" to walk the halls with after surgery. It really helps to get up and get moving. I had "plumbing" issues after my surgery in that I was not able to go to the bathroom for several days. It was not fun and a bit painful. I had to end up taking the magnesium citrate and it eventually helped. Good luck and keep everyone posted!!

    Surgery pain

Just like @@James Marusek I had very little pain from the actual surgery. Same here with getting up and moving. I don't think I was in the room 20 minutes before I was up and walking. I remember my surgeon making several points about this during the seminar I attended. The only pain I had was the gas fro the anesthesia that was still in my body. Walking helps!! ALOT!! In fact, I had someone walk with me around the clock the first day/night ever 2 hours or so. I wanted to get out of the hospital after one day but I ended up staying 2 days. No pain meds for me either, except for the one dose right after surgery. Best of luck!!
  5. @@Danny'sGirl @@pik So sorry to hear that both of you. Best of luck and I hope things get better for you real soon. I thought I was developing a stricture before because I couldn't keep things down. I was throwing up about 4-5 time a week. I guess I just was either eating too fast or taking too big of bites (I didn't think I was doing either) I'm monitoring it with my Dr. Office, Knock on wood, it's been over a week since anything has come back up so hopefully I am good. Best of luck!!!
  6. I am 45 years and was (and still am) significantly overweight. I chose RNY because I felt I would have a better chance at losing more weight. The main thing for me was the malabsorption. I really wanted a way to "curb" the cravings. Sweets, fried foods, etc were a regular part of my diet prior to surgery and I can honestly say that I don't crave those foods anymore. In fact, most Protein bars are too sweet for me now. I use sugar- free syrups and sugar -free crystal light mix but the ratio is about 4 times the dilution ratio. I also wanted a surgery that had statistics that went back 5,10,15,20 years and I didn't think gastric sleeve has as much data. Both of them were good options for me, per my surgeon. In the end I chose RNY. It was a bit more expensive (I had to self pay) but I am happy with my choice. Best of luck!
  7. Congratulations!!! Thank you for sharing. Seeing results instead of just reading some of the posts are truly inspiring. Awesome job!!

    It finally happened!

@@ckaymo23 @@jomamacita7 Best of luck to both of you! My one bit of advice post-op is to get up and get moving as soon as you are able to after surgery. I really helps with the healing process. Best of luck and keep us posted!!!

    Scales

I only weigh my self about once every 2 or 3 weeks. I know I should do once a week but I don't. It's kept the first 4 months really stress free and I like the fact that usually it is a significant weight loss at weigh in time. I actually go by my doctor's office (PCP) and they let me come in to "weigh in" Even though it is not a regular doctor visit they let me do this. It keeps me going. I don't have an accurate scale at the house. I'm thinking about getting the fitbit scale in the near future.
  10. Thanks for all of the great ideas! I know I need to mix it up a bit so I don't get burned out on one thing. My usual breakfasts are: sugar-free Protein pudding- I add 3 scoops of protein powder to instant pudding which adds about 85 grams of protein and mix in my Ninja. This will give me about 6 servings with about 16 grams of protein per serving. I also have about 1 oz of sliced turkey or chicken (not the greatest for breakfast) Second is Greek yogurt and protein mix -not my favorite but high in protein Third is egg beaters and with a turkey sausage patty My fourth is a Protein shake with blueberries or raspberries - This is my fallback meal when I know I don't have time to prepare anything else.
  11. As far as the length of time of meals, I would try to keep it at 30 minutes. You don't want to have your pouch start to empty out while you are still eating creating more room for more food. I was told meals should be between 20-30 minutes, but not longer, Perhaps this is why you never get a full feeling. My problem is that I don't spend enough time per meal! Best of luck!!
  12. Happy Birthday!!!! Great job, you look fantastic! Seeing pics and getting progress updates from members is really important for those of us just starting the journey. I'm 3 1/2 months post RNY, not really a total newbie but always learning. Thanks for posting!!
  13. Does anyone take a Calcium citrate capsule instead of a chewable? I recently switched to a capsule instead of the Bariatric Advantage soft chews. The soft chews, to me, had too many carbs in each one and were a little pricey. I found some capsules at Vitamin Shoppe and they are easy to take. I just want to make sure that they are being absorbed. My Dr. said I could switch to a pill instead of a chewable but the pills were getting stuck.. No problem with the capsules though.

    Calcium citrate

So I just checked with my NUT and was told that the capsules are totally fine - as long as I take 1500 mg per day in 3 - 500mg doses. or It is very strange how different programs have different guidelines for the Vitamin regimen for the same surgery. I've read tons of posts where patients are taking Flintstone chewables and my program said they are a big no no! Thanks again for all of the feedback. Hope everyone has a great day!

    Calcium citrate

@@BryBro63 Thanks for the feedback. It really isn't about the carbs I just trying to find an alternative to the chews. My NUT said I could switch to Citrical but the pills were getting stuck before. I'm call my NUT again to check. If I need to switch back to chewables I will. Thanks to all for all of the feedback!

    Calcium citrate

I tried a chewable from Vitamin Shoppe but I hated the chalky taste. Thanks for the info!

    My bypass is tomorrow

@@Neesy.pendy Best of luck Denise! I really learned a lot from this site during my first week post-op. I'm sure you have heard this a million times, but make sure you walk, walk, walk as soon as you can after surgery. It helps with the healing. The breathing machine is also really important post-op! For the first 2,3,4 days after surgery I didn't think I would be able to eat or drink anything. It gets much better!!! Good luck!!

    PROTEIN PUDDING! OMG!

@@audefacere I also use almost this same recipe to make ice cream in my Ninja. It is awesome!
  19. I used to hate Greek yogurt then I learned to "tolerate" it. Now, I really don't mind it at all. I have it in some ort of way at every meal. I mix with things to make a sauce for chicken, turkey etc. This has helped keeps the meats really soft and much easier to eat. I was having problems with food getting stuck and coming back up, now, it's not really a problem any more. I always have plain Greek yogurt in the refrigerator. Best of luck!!

1 month 1 week post op

I think all of you are doing great! Remember, it's a marathon not a sprint! I'm 3 months post op RNY and each week I think I am doing better and better. (at least in my mind! lol) I am really focused now on healthy eating, getting my Protein, drinking my Water and taking my Vitamins. Best of luck!!
  22. Just curious how much everyone is eating for lunch and dinner. I don't know if I am eating too much or too little. I starting weighing the Protein (chicken, pork, turkey- my 3 main proteins) and eat about 3 oz. at each meal along with a little Greek yogurt or cottage cheese and a few edamame . Is that too big a serving of meat? I know I'm getting in my protein but just want to make sure I'm not eating too much. Don't want to stretch the pouch!
  23. @@Jorrin That is what was so confusing for me. I think I was told about 1/4 cup of food during the the transition stage but when I got the sample diet plan it seemed like a lot more that that amount of food per meal and it also included some Snacks. I'm over 3 months now and things are going really good for me, (I think!! lol) I was just curious. I want to keep my stomach as small as possible for as long as possible!!!
  24. @@mamie60 Wow! Our stories are very similar. We both started at the same weight! I had my surgery 7/14/14 and have lost about the same amount as you in 3 months. My problem is that I don't measure the food I eat. I usually weigh my Protein and now and can pretty much tell a 3 oz. serving. There isn't room for much else! I think after the protein I get another 1/4 from a veggie or yogurt, etc. I think we are both doing great! Congrats on the first 3 months so far and from getting off of of your meds! Here's to the next 3 months!!!!

    After coming home

I agree, I spent 2 nights in the hospital then went to a family member's house for one night. After that I went back to my house and was on my own. If I had to do it all over again, I would of stayed with family for another day or so. I had some obstruction issues ( I know, TMI!) that lasted a few days and were awful. I will say, I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday in a limited capacity. Best of luck!
