  1. I am 4 months post RNY surgery and had a question regarding Protein intake. At this stage and beyond, is it alright to get about half of my daily protein from shakes or should it all be coming from just food? Also do the Protein Shakes move through the pouch faster causing us to become hungry quicker? I have really tried to get all of the protein from just food but recently increased my protein after I started working out about 5 days a week. The extra protein is coming from a shake.
  2. @@ziggypbang Thank you so much! I try to get a few ounces of lean meat at each meal and a little Greek yogurt or a Protein pudding and that gets me what I need. Adding the shake has helped post workouts.
  3. You rock! Thanks for sharing. It really helps seeing all of the "before", "during", and "after" photos. Keep up the excellent work!!

    My Journey

Junk-a-tarian! I like that word. That would of described my diet to a T. Veggies pizza and veggie burritos don't exactly scream healthy. Just because I wasn't eating meat didn't mean I was eating healthy. Vegan - I tried it for about a month back in the day but it was just too hard for me.

    My Journey

Wow! Our stories are really similar and I can totally relate. I also wish I would of had my surgery sooner. So far, it has been the best decision I have made. I was a vegetarian in my 30's and early 40's but transitioned back into eating meat and fish. Now, since surgery, I no longer eat red meat and will probably go back to vegetarianism once I plateau. One meat at a time! Best of luck!
  6. I am 4 months post RNY. Not so much a diet, but a lifestyle change. I do similar to South Beach I guess. Very high Protein and low carb. I probably average around 80-100 grams of protein per day and about 20 grams of carbs.

    Dying hair?

I dyed my hair and left my fingernail polish on except for one fingernail. It is hard to get the pulse oximeter reading with polish on the finger. I also had to take my contacts out. Best of luck with your surgery! Very exciting!!!

    hands freezing

I have always had cold hands and that did not change after surgery. I was told it had to do with my iron counts always being a tad bit low. Hopefully this will change after surgery since I upped my iron count. Who knows.

    Juicing

@@jjinWA Same here I add either a bit of spinach or kale to my Protein shake to up the nutrients. I bought a Ninja back in April and I use it almost everyday twice a day!

    New tasties!

I change the water a bit and add some Toriani sugar free syrup to make a flavored peanut butter. I add to protein shakes, pudding, etc to up the protein.

    Snack ideas?

@@juliedishman I add chocolate Protein powder (or whatever flavor) to my decaf coffee. To keep it from clumping I mix once scoop with about 2 oz. of soy milk in my Ninja the night before then pour it into my Keurig coffee in the morning. It's how I start everyday now!

    Need help with food ideas

I am loving the different combos of Protein pudding I am making with sugar free pudding and different flavors of Protein Powder. I actually use soy milk and it sets pretty good.

    Exercise questions

For the first 4 months I pretty much just stuck to walking. Now, I recently joined a gym and either exercise in the morning or later afternoon. When I exercise in the morning I drink a "Protein coffee" about 45 minutes prior and have a high protein breakfast after I'm done. In the late afternoon I try to time it so when I'm done it is time for dinner. So far, I only have lunch prior to that but I might have to change it and add a protein snack before I workout.

    Exercise

For the first 4 months after surgery I just stuck to walking. Recently I joined a gym and started working out with a trainer and I'm doing pretty much everything. Hopefully with the added exercise I be able to tone as I lose some more. Best of luck!!

    Party Pizza Meltdown

@@NicoleSW Your story is too funny! I had a mini pity party for myself on day 4 post-op. It was the first day that I was back in my own home on my own and I had a few friends that wanted to stop by for a visit. On the way, they said they were stopping to pick up food and asked me what I wanted! Duh! I just had weight loss surgery, I don't want anything from McDonalds!!! I don't think they understood the procedure that I had and the plan I was on now. It does get better! I use Pinterest all time for recipe ideas and tweak them a bit to suit my tastes. One of the big benefits of this journey is that I started cooking a lot. Best of luck on the next phases. I really hope you have an easier time transitioning through all of the food stages.
  21. Great idea! I'm 4 months post RNY and I stick to a low carb high Protein diet, Would love to share some ideas. Some of my favorites are: a protein pudding made with soy milk a Greek yogurt sauce for either chicken or turkey sugar free homemade ice cream crock pot chicken and mushrooms
  22. I try to weigh myself about once a month or so at the same scale - the one at my doctor's office. That is where I recorded my official starting weight and I use that scale. I'll try to pop in the office even if I don't have an appointment just to weigh in. I really focus on sticking to the plan, eating right, and exercising. I feel if I do these things the weight will come off.
