Hi all, I know grazing is bad but my hunger is gradually coming back and I'm struggling not to graze. I'm 11 weeks post op, I went band to sleeve. I have lost 33lb so far and have another 24lb to go. I took my eye off the ball for a few weeks and gained about 6lb, guess I got complacent. I've lost it again now and have learnt a valuable lesson, even though I can eat less that before, if I choose bad food, I'll still gain, albeit at a much slower rate than pre-surgery. Anyway back to my point, I'd love to hear what people consider to be their most tasty, satisfying, low fat / carb healthy grazing snack, one that you could munch away on and not consume to many calories / fat etc. At the moment I'm having a handful of almonds, an extra chocolate calci-chew, low fat yoghurt, the problems is they're not really satisfying. I have a bigger stomach than most will have as I went band to sleeve, I can eat just over a cup of anything without any problem at all. Grateful for helpful responses :-)

Pre op diet, did I blow it?
johnsydney replied to Seymour1971's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op diet was terrible, at best I stuck to it on alternate days and had many 'last meals' don't stress yourself out. Luckily for me all was good and the op went well. Obviously you know how important the pre-op diet is. Not everyone will be as lucky as me, just do your best and don't beat yourself up over a small slip. If we could all stick to diets we wouldn't the having these ops. If it's not safe during the op the surgeon won't go ahead. Try your hardest, fingers crossed all will go well for you :-) -

Thank-you all for sharing this information, it had given me lots of ideas :-) good news for me is that I've lost a few more pounds this week after a long stall then a gain, I'm now 209lb, the lightest I've been in about 20 years! ???????? -

Best food for grazing !
johnsydney replied to johnsydney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Bufflehead, green veggies is a good idea. Maybe I could keep some cooked in the fridge to eat. I don't really have snacks though, I normally have lunch and dinner. Then a couple of times a day I get hungry and end up having a couple of biscuits or a piece of toast. Maybe what I need to do is to add a couple of healthy snacks rather than 'graze' I've never really been a breakfast person, normally I have a glass of water with my vitamins followed by a cup of tea at home and a cup of coffee when I get to work, then I'm good until lunch time. As I'm typing this I'm thinking that the reason I am grazing is because I'm not eating properly or in a structured way? Maybe I've just figured out the answer to my question. -
Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?
johnsydney replied to Kevineastwest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still at a loss of 33lb in almost 11 weeks, not overly pleased with that, was hoping for quite a bit more by now, oh well, at least it's a loss and not a gain. I'm just too impatient 24lb more is my goal. 35lb more would be great but I'd be happy with another 24lb :-) -
Hunger, vagus nerve, ghrelin

Oui1213 - If you don't like my comments please don't read them. You are clearly quite a rude person. After having the band for 10 years, I feel suitably qualified to talk about my experiences. My responses here are honest, truthful and well balanced. Please read them again. Would you prefer it if I lied? Or genuinely shared my experiences, which, I believe is what this forum is about. My response here says that I am not knocking the band, it helped me lose weight, did I ever really feel full? No I didn't, is what the person in the original post experiencing normal? Yes it was at least the same for me. I also think it's very silly and naive of you to only want to hear success stories, like all types of surgeries, for some people this procedure works extremely well, for others not so well, people need to here all angles not just the good ones! send2steph posted "This has been really informative. Thanks!" So would you please mind your own business and keep your nose out. Thanks. Oui1213. -
Apologies just noticed this is a bypass thread. I am talking about my experiences with my sleeve. Don't know how coffee affects bypass patients, please disregard! I can't see how to delete my comment.

I read somewhere that regular coffee and decaf both cause the same amount of irritation / acid, so from a sleeve perspective it doesn't make much different choosing decaf. I drink regular coffee during the day and a decaf with a shot of whisky at bedtime so it doesn't keep me awake and I have no problems. My surgeon said drink coffee as you normally would, if it causes acid / reflux cut down or stop, if it doesn't affect you, drink away!

August post op sleevers: Check in
johnsydney replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went band to sleeve a couple of months ago, maybe 8 weeks ago, not really counting, going from the band to the sleeve, I haven't really had breakfast for the last 10 years so I don't really miss it. I just make sure I have water in the morning and maybe a coffee within a couple of hours of waking up, am thankful that it's one less meal to worry about, I try to get my vitamins in around 10am followed by lunch around 1pm. -
Enjoy your coffee ! Everything in moderation. If you enjoy it and it goes down well, drink it !

Band to Sleeve in One surgery
johnsydney replied to Bndtoslv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Same as me, the only reason I chose my surgeon was because he was competent at doing band to sleeve revisions in one surgery. Of course it wasn't guaranteed, he said he'd does his best but if it was too bad in there he wouldn't put me at risk. Fortunately all was ok a he did it in one go. So far so good :-) -
Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?
johnsydney replied to Kevineastwest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BMI was 33 on the day of surgery. Currently down to a BMI of 29. My surgery was 7 weeks ago. Total lost so far is about 15kg / 33lbs. Was hoping to have lost more than this but am still happy with my progress so far. I also feel as though I haven't had surgery. Have no problems at all. Can eat / drink anything just in smaller quantities and I generally feel less hungry :-) -
Band to sleeve failure HELP PLEASE
johnsydney replied to Susan.davis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there, I'm similar in the way of being able to eat a lot more than I thought, I eat a cup / 250ml of any food without any problem. I don't have any pain, slimes, reflux, or particular feelings of fullness, I just know I've had enough when I feel food backed up in my throat. I can drink right up until I eat and still get the whole cup in. My stomach doesn't rumble like it used to with the band. I do feel hunger but nothing like previously. I'm almost 8 weeks out. Do you have any restriction at all and do you feel hunger ? -
I was given coffee in hospital post op, I asked my surgeon about it, he said it can cause reflux, if you drink it and get reflux then stop drinking it. That was his advice to me guys I've been having a few cups of very strong coffee every day since my surgery almost 8 weeks ago and have had no problems.

August post op sleevers: Check in
johnsydney replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey all, I'm 7 weeks out tomorrow, been doing fairly well with the weight loss although can eat about 1 cup of food each meal, went band to sleeve, eating high protein, low fat, low carb food, been exercising by walking jogging 10km per day, started to feel exhausted a couple of weeks ago. Have been taking my vits, averaging 40g carbs, 80 proteins, less than 10g fat per day. Got really frustrated with the fatigue, so had a break from the exercise for 6 days, ate some bad food, although still in very small amounts. Had a couple of glasses of wine. Back on track today, tiredness gone, exercising again, however, gained 5lb during my short time off the wagon !!! I thought I may not lose, I thought id stay the same weight as only I ate small amounts ! Bit freaked out that I can gain so quickly with only taking my eye off the ball for such a short time. Also I feel like my hunger is coming back. Should I be worried ?? -

No red meat or ground beef ? That's a new one to me. Never heard that one. I'm having beef tonight ! -
It's like if someone has a touch of reflux or something and people are like "I'll pray for you" ! Please don't waste your time lol if I cared enough I'd take offence when people say it to me !!!

Pschyological evaluation
johnsydney replied to mh97686's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Why would they ask if you believe in god ? That's bizarre ! Maybe it's to see if you're deluded !?! Thankfully no psychological evaluation needed for me in Australia. -
Drinking after sleeve
johnsydney replied to auntiemel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No restriction with fluids for me whatsoever. I can drink anything in any quantity, including right up to eating, been the same since I woke up after surgery ! I haven't tried to drink whilst eating or too soon after because I feel too full to try, I normally drink about and hour and a half to two hours after eating :-) -
No post op leak test for me either, just during surgery.

August post op sleevers: Check in
johnsydney replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all, I'm 6 weeks post op now, went band to sleeve on the 12th of August. Lost 30lbs, was 244lb on day of op, today I'm 214lb. Stalled for a few weeks, scales just moved again yesterday. Eating more than I thought I would be able to at about a cup per meal of any type of food. Can drink right before eating with no issue. Not really feeling hunger, no pain / gas / reflux. Exercising daily, feeling a little tired at times but I guess that's to be expected, I'm hoping it won't last long, otherwise all is good :-) -
What happened to the Duodenal Switch forums?
johnsydney replied to dsdesigna's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Who says the pendulum is swinging from VSG and RNY to DS ? Do you have any links for evidence based research on this ? -
I'm 5 weeks out and just had some nice crisp lettuce with some grilled fish. Lovely, went down a treat I normally take a small salad of cherry tomatoes and cucumber to work with a boiled egg. I have no problems as long as I chew reasonably well.

Band to Sleeve in One surgery
johnsydney replied to Bndtoslv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It was easy for me, I didn't even tell my insurance company until after the operation when they got the bill ! My out of pocket was about $6k, insurance paid the rest. I'm in Australia, I think things work a lot differently over here. Where are you from ?
