Why did you choose Gastric Sleeve?

I'm 2.5 months post-op. I went into the process definitely wanting the bypass but had the sleeve. I had no comorbidities and am really healthy. My surgeon explained that they've seen young healthy females, with no other health issues, who have bypass start having blood sugar issues (severe ones) a few years post-op. Since that pretty much described me to a 't', they strongly recommended I do sleeve instead. I'm currently 12 lbs from my surgeon's goal and feeling fantastic!

Read if you've reached your goal lbs.

I am 2.5 months post-op and 12 lbs from my surgeon's goal. I'm about 42 lbs from my goal. At my current pace I should reach my surgeon's goal by mid-March and my goal by mid-May or so.

    Opinions. Sleeve vs. Bypass

I went into the process set on wanting bypass. Almost three months post- op from the sleeve and loving it. I'm only 15 lbs from my surgeon's goal and about 40 lbs from my goal. Under 200 for the first time in 15 years.
  4. I know I should be proud of what I accomplished, but I'm SO tired of all of the comments!! I'm not a fan of being the center of attention. I even had one of our facilities guys comment today (his daughter is one of my employees)... Though, he also asked if me losing weight was a good thing. First person to take that angle. I'm down about 78 lbs, so it's definitely noticeable (to everyone else). I'm also now less than 20 lbs from my surgeon's goal. We have a company party on Friday and there are a large number of people who work in a different building and they probably haven't seen me since about 50-60 lbs ago... I'm sure there will be LOTS of comments... And there will be alcohol involved, so I'm sure they'll be more free flowing. I kind of wish people would just ignore it....
  5. I'm working on transferring to the U of Mn, but I'm not having much luck in regards to scheduling. I'm less than 3 weeks from what's supposed to be my 3 month appt, but I'm wondering if I should just go back to my current clinic... Anyone else have scheduling issues at the U, or are they pretty responsive once you get in?

    DONE with the comments!

Oh, yes, I have the, "High protein, low carb, low calorie, low surgar... I've been working with a dietician" response down to a science. By that point they start to glaze over. LOL! I've only had a few ask how much I've lost and only a couple I've actually told. It's just annoying to have to go to the same canned response so often...

    Sleeve surgery

I had lost 15 lbs at my one nothing appt and was told that was very good because the first month can be a slow loss month.

    DONE with the comments!

Just realized that I posted this in the bypass forum and I'm a sleever... Oops!
  9. I was given VERY similar requirements from my NUT... Only 3 meals (NO snacking), no protein shakes/bars, 60+ grams of protein, etc... I am about 9 weeks out, I think? It's a struggle. I just try to do the best I can. I usually hit around 50-55 g of protein, 450-700 calories, and usually eat three meals and one snack.

    MN - Minneapolis/St.Paul

I'll try to make it on the 21st. I just might be able to swing it!

    Cold colder freezing. .

I have a heater blanket at my desk at work... Though even at my highest weight, I was always cold.
  12. The NUT and I discussed it and I told her that in the past, my goal has been 175, but I'd really like to get to 150. She said that 175 was a reasonable goal. I'm still aiming for the 150. I'm currently at 198.8, just over two months post-op.

I can theoretically make either one work, just depends on what else we have going on...
  14. I'm noticing that my 14W are getting a little big. I've always stuck to the Women's sizes because I have big thighs. But, I don't know where to go from here... I don't think they make a 12W. So, do I try a regular 12? A regular 14? ETA: Obviously I need to just go to the store and try a bunch of stuff on... I just much prefer online shopping... LOL!

    Chewable Calcium Citrate question

I use the Bariatric Advantage chews in caramel. I order them on Amazon. I also take a sublingual B-12 and two Flintstone complete chewables per day.

    Clothes size question...

Well, I ordered some regular size 12s that should be here on Thursday. They're curvy fit, so hopefully there's a chance they'll fit. If not now, I know they'll fit soon enough.

    Clothes size question...

Yeah, I don't EVER remember being in anything under a 14. Thanks!
  18. I'm currently struggling with this... I'm down 31 lbs since surgery and 74 lbs since I began the whole process in July. I keep getting comments, "You're disappearing!", "Skinny lady", "You're melting." But I don't see it... I'm finally just under 200 lbs, for the first time in 15 years. I put on my prom dress a few weekends ago and I totally could have worn it. I need to figure out how to make my brain catch up...

    Out of pocket expense?

My out of pocket max was $2,500. I haven't received the hospital bill portion yet.
  20. Quest4TheNewMe

How much weight did you lose?

As of this morning, I'm officially one onderland! I've lost 74 lbs since early-July and 31 lbs since surgery in November. Only 23 more lbs until my surgeon's goal and 48 lbs until my goal. I KNOW that I'll get there. The only thing in my way is ME.

    Cold medicine?

My doc okayed sugar free cough syrup at 5 weeks post op, when I started a super nasty cold/congestion. It takes a little work to find, but I did find a sugar free decongestant.

    Family dinners

I really struggled for the first couple of weeks. Sometimes, I would just go lay down while the rest of the family are dinner. Now I'm to the point that it doesn't impact me at all.

    Mothers

My kids are 7 and 3. I just told them that they had to be gentle. Once they weren't so yucky looking , I showed them my incisions and told them I have owies so they need to be careful with my tummy. My 3 yr old elbowed me a couple of times when playing, but otherwise it was fine. I moved a little slow, but otherwise I was okay caring for them after just a few days. I was really tired and needed naps though. Good luck!!
  24. I'm battling a lovely cold which has turned into a sinus infection, so I'm on antibiotics. I never really noticed any digestive "complaints" from taking antibiotics pre-op, but it's a whole new ball game now... Ugh! It almost reminds me of the pre-op bowel prep (sorry, TMI!). Anything I can do/take to help reduce the effects?
  25. Quest4TheNewMe

    Sinus infection and antibiotics (TMI)

Right??? LOL! I responded back to clarify that constipation is NOT the issue and that Miralax would likely make it worse. She responded that Miralax can help absorb excess liquid. Yeah, NOT going to give it a try!!
