SURGERY IN THE MORNING 7/21
jomamacita7 replied to Dawnakers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't need luck....you've got this! Keep us informed of your progress! -
Sounds like you need to talk to your surgeon about all of this. I'm still pre-op, so not an authority by any means, but I would think by this time you would be losing. Of course, everyone's different. But, it also seems like you shouldn't be having pain at this point. I would call my doctor's office if it were me.

My surgeon's office recommendation is to avoid chewing gum. I'll have to ask them why.

Surgery is later on today!

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time Pik! I hope it all gets better soon and you're feeling much better! Hang in there! -
Relax! Breathe! I don't think complications are the norm. I think we just hear about all the complications and that makes it seem like it happens all the time. I think most surgeries go off without a hitch. Try to relax and if you're still worried about it, maybe talk to your surgeon. They can probably reassure you and make you feel more confident.

Does anyone else feel like you're obsessing about everything pertaining to your upcoming surgery? I'm pre-op RNY, hoping to have my surgery late August or early September. I've already ordered me a food scale, my post-op Vitamins, a cookbook, etc. I've immersed myself in the online forums, reading everything about pre-op, post-op, problems, successes, etc. Anyone else obsessed like I am?

Questions re: food scale and cookbooks
jomamacita7 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currently 1-2 months pre-op RNY, trying to prepare everything for post-op. How important do you feel it is to have a food scale and weigh your foods? Is it not enough, in your opinion, to estimate your portions? Also, since money is an issue for me, do you have any suggestions for good inexpensive scales? And do you have any suggestions for good cookbooks for post-surgery? I'm looking for simple recipes that don't require a lot of ingredients and don't cost a lot. Any help you can offer is much appreciated! -
Way to go Debbie! Congrats to you on your success!

Honestly, you look 21, same age as my youngest daughter! But, because you're asking, I'm gonna guess you're at least 30! -
First visit to nutrition
jomamacita7 replied to StabMyFinger's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My visit with the nutritionist was one on one, face to face. She was super nice and went over some basic info, gave me a couple of packets of unjury Protein powder to try, and told me about myfitnesspal.com where I've been tracking all my intake. It was very relaxed and no pressure. Nothing to worry about. -

Need AUGUST bypass buddies!
jomamacita7 replied to rhfactor272's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't yet know when my surgery will be, but I know they can submit it to my insurance after 3 months and that will be Aug. 12. But, I'm scheduled for my colonoscopy on the 11th and see a vascular specialist on the 12th, so I imagine they'll have to wait for the results of those exams before we can go ahead with scheduling. I'm hoping everything goes smoothly and scheduling is not delayed for any reason. I'm guessing I'll get a surgery date in September maybe?? -
How did you decide your goal weight?
jomamacita7 replied to pik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still 1-2 months pre-op RNY. My healthy weight range is supposed to be 117-146. So, I added a few pounds to that top number because I know I'm going to have a lot of loose skin. I chose 150 as my goal, just because it seemed like a reasonable number.
