  1. I agree about the walking! I didn't have any gas pain in the hospital but I did once I was home. Walking for just a couple minutes around the house did the trick.
  2. I thought the same thing initially and my first night home was almost in tears wondering what I did to myself. At 6 days post-op, I no longer had pain each time I got up. Yesterday, 7 days post-op, I didn't need my pain meds at all! So believe me when I say, each day gets better!!! Keep your chin up and know that better days are ahead!
  3. My surgeon's instructions say I need to stay on chewables for a minimum of 12 weeks post-op before switching back to solid pills.

    Shakes long term?

I think at some point I want to be completely free of all sugar substitutes. I've never been a big Breakfast eater so my plan when I get a month or two out, have Protein shakes as my breakfast every day using unflavored Protein powder and add yogurt, fruit, etc. to it to flavor it up. At some point I want to try and do a juice cleanse maybe 6 months out.
  5. Mmmm, Cream of Wheat! Best meal so far on full liquids!

Hiya what is cream of wheats? If you don't mind me asking. I need to try different things so I don't get to bored and stick to plan x

It's in the cereal aisle where the oatmeal is.

  6. I was constipated as well and yesterday I got the all clear to take a Colace (or Miralax). My surgeon said a stool softener as opposed to a laxative is more gentle at this point and that MOM and Dulcolax would be too harsh on the new stomach because they are stimulants.

    Cream of Wheat

I'm week 2 post-op and Cream of Wheat is on my approved foods for the full liquid stage. Every surgeon has different criteria so if you're not sure, just give them a call.

    Tasteless Protein

I would check with your surgeon only because each one has their own specific instructions. I was not allowed to add Protein until week 2 and even that it's one Protein Drink (30 g) a day.
  9. Are you supposed to be taking solid pills this early? Most instructions are for chewable multi and Calcium. I like the Celebrate brand. I didn't care for Bariatric Advantage chocolate chews but the caramel is good. There are also liquid brand Vitamins like Wellesse I've heard good things about.
  10. I will be just getting to the pureed stage the week of Thanksgiving. I just cannot eat any meat that has been pureed. I plan on adding Protein powder to my mashed potatoes and saving some turkey for the following week when I'll be on soft foods.

    Shakes long term?

That's interesting and am curious myself. My surgeon is keeping me on full liquids for two weeks as opposed to one. He explained that the extra week is for additional healing time. This is fine with me because I certainly do not want to rush it!

    About to cry...

Everyone hits a stall in weight loss but don't let it get you down! Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint! Even on regular diets we hit stalls. It's our bodies way of saying, "hold up, what are you doing to me?" You will get back on track, believe me! I agree with other posters though, your caloric intake should be around 800 and 80-90 grams of Protein.
  13. Looks good! You're getting the amount of Protein needed. Maybe have a higher calorie snack? A 100 calorie yogurt?
  14. On to full liquids for 2 weeks! Tomato soup never tasted so good!!!

If you have Von's or Safeway Markets where you live, the Tomato Basil Tuscan Bisque is delicious! It helped me during my full liquid phase.

  15. I wouldn't start the next phase until your doctor gives you the all clear to do so. pizza? Clearly not everyone takes this surgery and the process seriously.

    Refried beans and cheese

One thing I learned years ago during the low-carb craze when I started reading labels was in the low-fat, no-fat, fat free foods they tend to have a higher sugar content. The other thing to keep in mind is that all those low-fat labels look good but those are all processed foods (even milk). I'll stick to the full fat on certain items like cheese and sour cream since those are things I only use in small amounts anyway.

I have been doing the same thing last night and tonight and finding some really good ideas! It's no wonder at 6 days post-op I was starving today! LOL

This is so funny, I was thinking the same thing today! LOL I made DD a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch today and she only ate half. Boy, was I eyeing the uneaten half!!! I have my 1 week follow up tomorrow so I'm hoping to be able to start full liquids tomorrow or Wednesday. I am going to devour some Cream of Wheat!!! LOL

3 Days post op Stomach Growling

Mine has growled a couple times. I'm 6 days post-op and today I felt really hungry. I have my follow-up with my surgeon tomorrow so I plan on bringing it up.

    Sleep Apnea c-pap/bi-pap

Yes, I used mine every time I slept in the hospital and had no problems with gas from it. Be sure to check with your doctor if you are unsure about bringing it. Most surgeons will not perform the surgery if you do not bring your CPAP to the hospital with you.
  22. If you're having problems on certain meds, they might be able to change them. Any kind of scrunching of our tummy's right now is going to hurt. That includes getting up and down and the wretching as well. Have you asked about changes in meds? Maybe you need something stronger? I didn't feel cold until I was home. They kept my hospital room so warm and I actually got too warm and asked them to turn it down. Now that I'm home, I am more chilly than I was before surgery. I promise each day gets better! Hang in there!

    Taking meds after surgery

I actually made this mistake my first night home from surgery. It was the middle of the night and I got up to take my pain meds and without thinking, gulped the Water. I immediately thought, "oh crap!" LOL I didn't throw up but I was uncomfortable for quite a while afterward. My instructions for the amount of pills I have to take is 1 pill per hour. Unfortunately, this has me taking pills all day long. Swallowing the pills isn't as big a deal as I thought it was going to be either. It's a pain but it's a small price to pay.
  24. Don't be afraid to ask for more pain meds if you need them. They kept me quite comfortable in the hospital so I was not in pain, just some discomfort. Hang in there! I am day 4 post-op and believe me, each day does get better!
  25. I am day 4 post-op and my tummy has been doing just fine with all of the pills I'm taking. The percocet's are big and I'm able to get them down with no problems. A couple extra sips of water with it also helps.
