UrCaliGirl got a reaction from lovebugg2013 in Emotional Mess
Don't be scared???? I have never had surgery before and after it was over I'd do it again and again it was so darn easy. The gas is the only hard part lol. Oh and the pain drugs where awesome I had Dilaudid with anti-nauseous and it didn't make me sick or feel to weird. It really took the pain away. Good luck it's a breeze????????

UrCaliGirl reacted to tamg26k in Caloric Intake
I had my RNY 3 months ago today and I felt the same exact way when I transitioned to solid foods. I added up my calories and I was only getting about 500-600 a day. I'll be honest, I don't worry about calories. I don't measure my meals either. I first make sure I am getting my Protein in every day and I really watch all of my carbs pretty closely. By the time I finish my Protein at meals my stomach is completely full. As far as fruits go, I try to stick to a few berries- blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, or strawberries as the carb count is lower. I also try to have a few bites of veggies at lunch and dinner. The protein and the carbs are the only things I watch really closely. As of today, 3 months to the day of my surgery, I have lost 75 lbs. I hope this helps. My best advice is the same thing that you have probably heard over and over - eat small bites and chew chew chew!

Why wouldn't u just go to a Dr in the USA? I'm sorry but I'd never have anything done in Mexico. But I do here that there are some great Drs in TJ. Don't you have insurance it would be totally covered mine was.

UrCaliGirl got a reaction from misstvb in OCTOBER 2014
The hardest thing for me is that I'm Vegan I'm hopeful I can find lots of good alternatives. I just bought 2 books from the UK on how to eat from surgery on. I also found a awesome Bariatric Dr in Houston that is vegan. He also has lots of great information...

UrCaliGirl reacted to gmanbat in Need Comebacks For "easy Way Out" Crack
A dear lady in our support group requested the participants to give her some comebacks for folks who, when hearing of her sleeving, say,"Oh, you took the easy way out!"
My comeback is to quickly lift up my shirt and display my beautiful scars and say, "Does this look easy to you, genius?"
Anyone have some comebacks that work for you?

Thank you all so much for the encouraging words and optimism as well. It's really helping me to know that there are so many success stories and people who are loving their journey.
Anesthesia clearance was me meeting with the anesthesiologist and him asking about my previous history and whether or not I've had problems with it in the past. He then signed off on the surgery and said it was a go.

I AM sitting here this morning any just noticing a lot of anxiety setting in for me... I was just approved for surgery Friday, and am anticipating surgery at the end of NEXT week... The anxiety of this whole thing seems to be hitting me for the first time... I've been an athlete my entire life, and have let my weight get out of control over the past 6 years... I find myself questioning whether this is all going to be worth it, even though I know why I am having surgery, and why I began down this path in the first place... for myself, for my wife and 4 month old daughter... I had a dad that died when he was 42... dropped dead from a heart attack getting out of the shower, and I am on this path so that my daughter doesn't have to go through missing her dad like my sister misses her dad... and like I miss him now... I just turned 37 in July...
I am always confused about which forums are for what, being a newbie on this site, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice for me going into what is going to be a major life changing event and hopefully will change the course of my family and stuff... I am really noticing what the impact of this is going to have on my wife and the changes she will have to endure as a result of my new diet... I hope to go back to work here in the next few months, and being a coach myself, I want to return there and be able to be a good example to my athletes... Does ANYONE have any advice heading into this surgery that they can give me to help with the anxiety that right now seems to be building by the minute?? It's funny how sometimes it's easier to open up about stuff like this to total strangers than it is to let in those that love you the most to help, but I honestly don't know how anyone that I know could understand what I am going through right now...
Thanks for listening and any insight some of you may be able to offer...

I was so nervous that I just didn't even read any of the negative possibilities. I am 6 weeks out and I feel the best I have in years! I too have been doing so much more than I have in the past. I am extremely excited for the future. The advise I would give it to stick to the diet plan they have for you. My program was Clear liquids for a day. I had trouble even getting liquids down. I just didn't care at all about eating or drinking. I wasn't sick or feeling down just didn't want to eat or drink. 2nd day - week 3 went to "full Liquid" diet. Yogurt, Protein drinks and the like. Week 4 - 5 pureed foods. Week 6 - 7 as the weeks have gone the Water is easier to get down. Soft foods this week. I am looking forward to the change to soft foods. I have lost 64 lbs by following this plan. Be careful of saying it won't hurt me to have this. Your stomach isn't ready for it. I wish you the best of luck. You CAN do this! I also suggest you have a great support team to keep you on your path!
