It took me a while to figure out..............go to Trying To Conceive Ticker and create the ticker you want. Then add that url to your signature (under "edit signature"). It took me a few tries before I finally got it right - good luck!

Everything I heard at the seminar I attended says it's a lifetime thing. I wouldn't consider bypass and I've chosen lap band because of the lower rate of risks and complications. Good luck in your decision!

My surgeon said clear liquids the day before the surgery. However, he wants me to lose at least 10 lbs. before surgery. I can do this! The hard part is that I will be on liquids all thru the holidays!

Debbie, Glad to hear it's going well for you - I will take your advice. One thing they stressed in the seminar I attended was that it is a "tool" - I feel that's exactly what I need. I desperately need to slow down my eating and lessen the quantity. I am a carbohydrate addict so this will be a true test of my grit. No more donuts! Lynne

Debbi, I found you on an "over 50" thread and was looking for your progress - you haven't posted since your surgery so I'm hoping that's not a bad sign! Let us know how you're doing - I'm your age and feel we "oldies" have a bit more of a challenge. I'm scheduled for surgery in another 4+ weeks (providing there's no hangup with the insurance).

My area hospital also required a 6 month "training" period. I have gone elsewhere - don't want to wait - I'm old enough! Just hoping my insurance will ok it without a waiting period.

Maybe you should check into Dr. Abkin in Florham Park, NJ - going to Mexico makes me nervous :-) Very, very experienced and his staff is super!

no I don't think 6 months for just a fill. I was just surprised to see that no doctor in the Lehigh Valley was certified by Allergan.

Hi Rain, I found your post and want to "chat" with you about your experience. I met with Dr. Abkin 2 weeks ago and felt very comfortable with him. Did you use the nutritionist and psychiatrist down the hall from his office for your evaluations? I was very disappointed and upset with them. They both tried to talk me out of lapband and into bypass - which I am totally frightened off. I have almost 200 lbs. to lose and they both said I can't hope to lose more than 100 to 125. Which is certainly better than the direction I've been going lately! However, I see you have a 150 lb. loss as your goal so I'm interested in hearing your experience - did anyone try to talk you out of the lap band?

Hi Jessica, Have you had your surgery? I'm anxious to hear how it went. I saw Dr. Abkin 2 weeks ago and my surgery is set for Dec. 11th. I'm so excited. I really felt very comfortable with Dr. Abkin - and I know that's an important part of the journey. I hope to hear from you and wish you the best - let me know how it's going!

You can try Dr. Boorse. I'm going to a surgeon in Florham Park, NJ and will drive the hour plus to have him do my fills. I don't want to wait the required 6 months that LV Hospital requires.

My bmi is right at 60 - my dr. says I cannot afford to gain one pound - actually he wants me to lose at least 10 (5 1/2 weeks till surgery). If this doesn't motivate me - I don't know what will!!!

I'm having my surgery on Dec. 11th. My dr. told me to bring my Cpap machine just in case I had to stay overnight. I have had my machine for over 2 1/2 years and have never missed a night with it - it's so comforting!
