2 Wks Post Op so looking for a Great Mentor, I'm in MD/VA area
jenncox replied to Lizzeeoc8's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Lizzee038 I just saw you live in the Hughesville area. I live in La Plata. I'm going through Bluepoint Surgical Group with Dr moazzez. I saw you were looking for a mentor. Well since you already had surgery I can't be your mentor but I just thought I'd say hi since you live nearby. Do you go to the support group at st Mary's Hospital ? It meets the second saturday of the month at 10 am I'm pretty sure. I haven't been to it yet but I'm going to go in September. I'm looking for a mid September approval and a end of October surgery. Get back in touch if you want to. Hope everything's going well for you as you continue to recover .... Jenn -
Wow 100 pounds in 3 months that's unbelievable ... Congratulations! What was your secret to such quick weight loss? A hundred pounds is my goal for weight loss. Thanks for all the info about dr.moazzez. I didn't Meet with him initially but pam told me he was the best there so I decided to choose him so I actually haven't met him yet. I'm sure I will when the surgery gets closer. If I have any questions thanks for the invite it ask you. Right now I'm just trying to maintain my weight not gain by drinking protein shakes and eating protein bars. Trying really hard not to eat like it's the Last Supper since my diet will be so limited after surgery. What exercises are you doing ? Keep up the great work. Thanks for getting back to me and I'll keep in touch

Hi Andy and Ferguson this is Jenn I'm still pre op but I am going through fair Oaks . Waiting for approval which hope to find out mid September. Surgery likely the end of October. Haven't been to the support group yet because I. live an hour and 20 minutes away and there's a local chapter at a hospital nearby. I may check out the Fair Oaks group at least once after my surgery. I'm using Dr moazzez hope you're both doing well . Stay in touch if you'd like

Hi this is Jenn I'm going through blue. Surgical group in Fairfax Virginia and will be using Dr moazzez too. Pam submits for approval on September 2nd so I think my surgery is going to be the last week of October. Hopefully I'll be approved and be on my way soon . Thankful to finally be through my 3 month weight loss period And all the preliminary testing . Insurance definitely makes you jump through many hoops before final approval . -
I can add you as a friend on My Fitness Pal but I think I need your contact information or your Facebook information. I haven't added anyone as a friend on Fitness Pal so you would be the first one and I'm just going by what the Fitness Pal prompt said to add a friend. But I definitely would do it if we can figure it out between the two of us

Pjhoyt... How do you actually make that noodle free lasagna ? I saw your ingredient list but wonder how to put it all together and how to cook it?

Sarah Bauer call your dietitian and check what the protocol is for the weeks leading up to surgery. As far as weight loss start using protein shakes and protein bars now. If you can replace two meals with a protein shake and just snack on high protein things then you'll definitely lose some weight . I lost 11 pounds in July by doing that. Every post I've seen everything I've heard says there is a liquid diet prior to surgery. I've heard it be anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks . It all depends upon your surgeon and your nutritionist. I'm pretty sure the main goal with the weight loss is to shrink the liver by making it not so fatty. This allows more room inside your body when the doctors are doing their surgery

Karaya as far as recipes ... I just joined Pinterest there's an app for it . I was prompted to join after going on to egg face.com. Eggface is a website that is run by a former bypass patient with lots of fun stuff on a daily basis including recipes and ideas for cooking in general. So you should visit both of those for recipe ideas . Hope you find some good ones -

Draytonp congratulations on your surgery sorry to hear there was a little bit of a rough patch glad you're feeling better. Who is your surgeon? I'm using Fair Oaks and Blue Point Surgical group. My surgeon is Dr moazzez. I'm definitely interested to see what your experience is like there over the next two days. My surgery is likely to be the end of October. Keep feeling well -
How long after insurance approval were you scheduled?

Good job ready to get the show on. Glad to hear you're getting in touch with them regularly. I hope you find out soon your date of surgery. I'm sure it's frustrating -
Hi one thing I forgot to mention is that I'm doing the My Fitness Pal app . It's really helpful to keep track of what you're eating but more importantly keeps track of your calories for the day and make sure to be mindful not to go over a certain amount . It's really easy to use once you get on there and get the hang of it. I suggest you guys give it a try I think you'll find it very helpful and the app is free

Hang in there and keep drinking those shakes to keep your protein up and your carbs down.

Ready to get this show on call your doctor's office be proactive be your own advocate -
One thing I did do was to buy protein bars and protein powders that I like so whatever I have an urge to eat something bad I grabbed a protein bar and that's helped

I felt the exact same way soon after I made the decision to pursue weight loss surgery. Took me a couple weeks and gaining a couple pounds to get a grip and slow down. I needed to make sure I didn't gain weight on my three months medically managed weight loss for my insurance. Needless to say I got real strict real fast on my eating and was able to lose 5 pounds in July. But the feeling is totally normal and understandable . Everything I've been reading and researching points to the fact that 6 months to a year out will be able to eat a few bites of some things we like . It just takes awhile for the pouch to heal and to become less sensitive. I'm still doing the three-month processing of my insurance requirements but hoping to have surgery in the end of October

Super bariatric babe I'm not in Northern Virginia. I live in Southern Maryland in LaPlata . So it's a good hour plus away for me to go to the hospital and the doctor's appointments -
I meant to say gradually less gum over that period of 2 months
-
After cutting down to about 4 per day I used electronic cigarettes that I bought at the convenience store. I did that for two weeks then switch to the nicotine gum 4 milligrams for a month then switched to 2 milligrams for another month . I use gradually let's go each day over that period of months . A year and a half later still smoke free. Good luck to you can do it
