I had my surgery on July 29th as well! And, I'm the same age (well just turned 34 the other day) and this was my first surgery as well. Our story sounds very similar! I had the same wild imagination of what I thought surgery was gonna be like and it turned out so much better. So glad it went well for you and wish you continued success!!!

Good luck to you!!! I hope it goes smoothly as well :-) As for the gas, mine wasn't bad. They say walking helps and I had gas x strips that seemed to help as well.
  3. I feel the same way. It's almost too good to be true, so I'm wondering when the other shoe is gonna drop. I did have a food sticking incident, but other than that, been pretty easy. Not hungry at all and seem to be tolerating most things. Though, I haven't tried too many different things. Basically all of the things you mentioned plus canned chicken. I'm about 4 weeks out now. I should try new things, but maybe I'm afraid to push my luck. I have a feeling we're not alone though.

Down 29 lbs total. About 12 pre-op and 17 post-op. I'm not really exercising yet. I'm having a hard time figuring out where I can fit it in my schedule so that I can stick to it. I work a lot and have two small kids. So, I think I'm doing good considering.

    Feeling Relieved

Just a little update: doing good here. Not many complaints. I'm actually surprised at how easily I've been able to resist foods I shouldn't eat. Cooking for my family hasn't been as bad as I was afraid it would be. Not feeling hungry helps. I know whatever cravings I'm having are just in my head. Hoping that continues to get easier. Getting better at getting fluids in and getting more Protein in. Syntrax Matrix nectar is a lifesaver. I hope everyone else is doing well!! Sending positive vibes out to you all!

    I finally did it!

Hang in there !! It'll all be worth it in the end :-)

RNY - how are you feeling?

Not yet, but I've tried the wild cherry and crystal sky and they were both good. I also got samples of the syntrax matrix. I've tried the cookies n cream and peanut butter cookie, but didn't really care for either of them. I tried the strawberries and cream today and that was not bad. You have to mix the syntrax with milk or they are terrible.

RNY - how are you feeling?

I found a website that has a lot of protein options. They sell sample of protein powders too, so you can try them first. I HATE the protein powder smell/taste, but I found that the matrix nectar powders are actually pretty good as long as I don't smell it first. The protein flavor is very mild tasting, so I taste more fruit. They're also not very thick. So far, those are my favorite and are the only thing helping me meet my protein requirements. They also have soups and things that have protein added. The website is MyBariatricPantry.com if anyone is interested in checking it out :-)

    September surgery

Sorry to hear that!! It's so frustrating! I had my approval from insurance in March, but had to wait until July for various personal reasons (work mostly). But, it went by so fast! Hang in there! It'll be here before you know it

worse day ever what is going on?

It's possible that it is food sticking (that's what they call it at my surgeons office), but I read some other stories of people having trouble getting anything other than liquids down and it could be swelling in your pouch or even possible swelling where your esophagus meets your stomach causing that opening to be very small. It took about 24 hours for my stuck food to finally go through, so if you don't feel better soon it's probably something else. :-( hopefully, for your sake, it's not

    September surgery

People who don't struggle with their weight or have never crossed the threshold into obesity can't understand what we go through. They think, just go on another diet and try harder. It's not that simple. By now, I've tried every diet you can think of and a lot of them worked. But, I always gained the weight back and then some. I knew I needed this to finally be successful. My fiancé doesn't get it. He supports me 100%, but admits he doesn't understand why I'd go to such measures. It's because he's never struggled with his weight. There is a scientific reason why obese people have such a hard time losing weight and keeping it off, but I can't explain it in words that make him understand. I'm going to take him to a support group meeting and see if that helps him understand a little better. Bottom line, not everyone is going to "get it" and may not support your choice. All you can do is trust your decision, stick to the post op guidelines and show yourself that this was the best decision for you. Maybe after they see how good you are doing and feeling, they'll come around.

worse day ever what is going on?

That sounds similar to what I went thru yesterday. I think food got "stuck" in my pouch and wasn't able to digest, so anything I tried to get down made me feel like I was going to explode. I actually wanted to throw up to relieve the pain and discomfort. I took some of the omeprizol (sp) that they prescribed and stuck to liquids all day and I feel better now. Not sure if you're going through exactly the same thing, but it's possible. If you don't feel better tomorrow, I'd call your docs office and see what they say.

    Feeling Relieved

I'm so happy to hear so many of us are doing great! Please keep us updated, it makes recovery a bit easier to handle knowing so many are going through the same things. As for me, I'm struggling a little with getting Water and Protein in. A bit of constipation is causing discomfort every time I drink and I really don't like protein powders, so I'm working on finding alternatives. Had a bout of food sticking last night, which was NOT fun. Lesson learned! Other than that, I'm doing great. Down about 25lbs overall so far. Hit a stall, I'm assuming due to bloating and constipation. Just gotta keep pluggin along :-) Please feel free to share anything, I learn so much from you all!

Week 1 post op roux en y

I found a website that sells samples of protein at a decent price. I hate that protein taste, but at least this way I can try a bunch of flavors without wasting a lot of money and product. It's called my Bariatric pantry. They have lots of other protein supplements as well. Just an option :-)

RNY - how are you feeling?

You're probably right. I know I'm not getting enough water in. I'm trying like hell, but just not getting it. Partially because of the discomfort it causes with every sip. So, the cure to my discomfort is causing me discomfort. I can't win!

    July RNY Page

Its been quite a ride! I am just over 2 weeks post op and have good days and not so good days. All in all, the surgery went great and recovery pretty easy. Off of pain meds, but dealing with a little bit of nausea, constipation and dehydration. I'm finding it very difficult to get in enough fluids. Probably went back to work too soon, taking my focus away from trying to adjust to my new lifestyle. I experienced my first bout of food sticking today. Not fun at all. Lesson learned! If anyone has any tips for getting fluids in I'd love to hear them! I have my water with me everywhere I go, but I lose track of time and forget. Today, I resorted to setting a timer for every 5 mins to remind me to sip, sip, sip. Helped a little, but I didn't start that until afternoon. Will try again tomorrow. Hope everyone else is doing well!! Or, better :-)

RNY - how are you feeling?

I think in having the same problem. I've only had a bm twice since my surgery (7/29). The part that is killing me is the intestinal cramping. Every time I take a drink of Water, my intestines cramp up (at least that's what it feels like, it's not my stomach). It's really uncomfortable. Has any one else experienced this sensation? I'm assuming it has to do with being backed up. Other than that, for the most part I feel great. I have noticed that I'll have an off day. It's quite a roller coaster. Some days, ok. A couple of days I felt amazing. And then a few rough days. Can't wait for it to even out!

    Need AUGUST bypass buddies!

Good thinking!! Take advantage of the sugar free popsicles in the hospital too, they are so refreshing!! I'll pray for a smooth surgery and quick and easy recovery!

    Need AUGUST bypass buddies!

Ps. I only lost about 12lbs pre op, but they only really wanted me to lose at least 10. You're on the right track!

    Need AUGUST bypass buddies!

Your fears are not misplaced. It's an invasive surgery. But, the good news is, like many have said, it's been around a long time so it's almost routine. My doctor had done so many, he could probably do it in his sleep. Im betting yours is the same. A majority of these surgeries go off without a hitch. Just focus on that. The chances of there being a problem are slim. Ask your doc or anesthesiologist for something to calm your nerves when you check in. Stress is bad for the body, so you gotta find a way to relax. You have to trust your surgical team. I was really freaked out about a week before my surgery. I managed to calm my nerves. Coming on here helped, and talking to the staff and nurses at my surgeons office. My surgery went so well I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. I was worried for nothing as long as I stick to the guidelines, I don't expect any issues.

    July bypass

I had my bypass surgery on 7/29. It went so well, I couldn't believe how fortunate I was. Nothing like I was expecting as far as recovery. The first week was a breeze. So much so that this week my mind has taken over and freaked me out a little. I guess it just seemed too good to be true, so I worried needlessly. I did start feeling a bit of nausea when trying to get in protein and fluids the last 2 days. But, I saw the nurse today and she reassured me that everything I'm feeling is normal and part of healing. Nausea isn't unbearable and seems like only in the morning for some reason. Little pain at incision sites and in my belly, but nothing I'm even taking meds for. All in all, it has been a success! Down 20lbs from the beginning. About 10 lbs pre op and 10 post. Losing about a pound a day right now. I'll take it! Not feeling hunger is the best part. I can see someone with pizza, think I want some for a minute, then think nah. Hope that holds up :-) it helps that I've moved on to smooth foods and not just liquid. Can't wait to have real food though!! Best of luck to you all!!

    July bypass

I hate to tell you this, but you really should call your docs office. Or, maybe a nurses helpline? Just tell them what's going on and see what they recommend. Hate for you to be in any more discomfort than you already are :-/
