Hello everyone,
My name is Joe and I have struggled with weight my entire life. I have tried all types of diets but in the end ultimately gained it all back and more. Several years ago I was able to have a wonderful doctor that assisted me in getting the lap band. After months of test, psych consult and meetings I was appropved and received my lap band. I immediately lost 50 lbs during the first few weeks and the reason was that the first week I was unuable to tolerate anything by mouth and when I was asleep I would wake up wanting to throw up. Not sure if it was the gas they used to fill me up with, the anesthesia, or the actual lao band itsef. After awhile it got better and was able to get my first fill which was 0.5 cc and was my last fill. I would throw up food, food would get stuck, etc. It was like this for several years till I signed up with Kaiser and talked to my Doctor who referred my to the options program. I was sent to see a bariatric surgeon who immediately removed the lap band. Since this time (April of 2014) I have been able to eat without any problems and have finished my classes and all test for surgery. My original Doctor wanted to wait at least a year to do the sleeve but when I talked to my coordinator she has schedled me with another Bariatric surgeon to see what he says and if I can have surgery done assooner as I have everythng done. I have my appointment with Surgeon on July 25 2014. Next week, I hope he says yes as it has been almost 3 months since my lap band was removed.
Update: 02/21/2015. Sorry I haven't been able to write sooner. I did meet with another surgeon at Kaiser. He said he would like to wait at least 6 months for the lap band site to heal before he would consider doing the surgery on me. This was back in August of 2014. I decided to wait and have an appointment with Dr Mun this Thursday 02/26/2015. It will be 10 months since the lap band was removed and if scheduled would be closer to 11 months out. Almost the year he wanted to wait. I really hope he considers scheduling me as this has been a long process and just want to start my new journey. Will update again after this consult.
Update: 02/27/2015...Met with Dr, Mun yesterday. Good news is we have set a date for 05/06/2015, bad news is its been almost a year since Dr Mun has removed my Lap band and in this year I have gained about 40 lbs. Now doctor wants me to try to lose as much as possible prior to surgery to thin out my liver. He has placed me on a protein shake for breakfast another for lunch and a smart one, healthy choice or similar type diet meal for the next 7 weeks. Now the ball is in my court, Lets get this done.
