  1. I believe that the sleeve patients would like to know what they are going through after sugery since day one, week one, 3 week, 6 weeks until a few years post-op, that's why we all are here. Just hope that my 6 weeks "experience" would help her to get some ideas even it's not yet a life time experience which other members with more experience may answer her question later, why don't you try?
  2. I'm only 6 weeks out and I can eat a bit more than half a cup now probably 3/4 cup if it's solid food. I think you should ask yourself why would you want to have this surgery in the first place. The sleeve is for controling the quantity of the food, and if you're really not ready to cooperate with your tiny pouch later, you will probably suffer or regret it. And it's not revisable!

I have a kind of funny question

I think so, yes, it's the intensive care unit after surgery. I think it's the normal procedure for any surgery I stayed in the service 4 nights. After the swallow test and scanning my abdomen they moved me to the other recovery room for 1 more night and released me on the 6th day.

I have a kind of funny question

I was surprised too because I was not treated for diabetic before, my blood sugar was pretty high but I was not yet diabetic. As they told me everything they were doing to me I was...what wait (after have had a few shorts already) why do I need insulin? The nurse told me that my blood sugar was higher than usual because of anaesthesia. It was only the first night post-op only. Later they checked my blood sugar twice a day and it went down hill. The fifth day the doctor asked me to put sugar in my yogurt! Hehe

    Ugh my Mother!

I haven't told my mum yet... and not sure if I will ever tell her. Me, my half sister and my brother all got this genes from my mother's side, my grandmun -- huge but she was quite tall, so she didn't look as big as my mum and my aunties (my mum's sisters) because they're all quite small like me. We all were thin, even skinny when we were young until the age of 25-26, there when it begun. I'm very small merely 5' and in February this year I hit my peak at 228 lbs, and unfortunately that was when I visited my mum in Thailand. I KNOW that she's worried for me because right now at the age of 67, her weight went up sky high and she's struggling also with diabetes but she expressed her "concerns" by criticising my appearance and my weight, as always, why mummy why??? She also struggled with her weight her whole life, several times she tried diet pills prescribed by some doctors which all gave her BIG yoyo effect, once she even convinced me to go see one of these doctors and I did because she said that it's safe and no yoyp effect. Guess what, I lost 44 lbs and gained back 88 in a few years. I haven't decided yet if I should tell her or not ::sigh:: I love my mum but we don't really get along. Anyway, I still have a few month to decide. I'll see her in November, maybe this time if she's pleased with my weight loss result, probably I will tell her.

::sob:: I gained a pound... I know I shouldn't have stepped on the scale every single day but couldn't help it. I know this is normal because I did everything right.. just want to get it out a little before going to walk. :'-(
  7. Thanks Jane, I know I just have to get used to it. Hope that I can feel normal again one day. :-P
  8. What I'm wondering now is the difficulty to eat certain kinds of food that probably too dry (which we never had problem swallowing post-op), is it going away? Now that I can eat the solid food but it's like I lost appetite maybe because I'm not hungry? Now I eat because I have to and nothing even my favourite dishes please me anymore.
  9. Ouhhh love this thread, thanks CTrose, and also love to read all proud moment of you guys: I'm still at very early stage (6 weeks) but I had some little great moment too, one thing is now I have the same weight as my husband YaY! Seriously, I felt awful to the fact that I weighted more than my husband, way more and now I can see that one day he will be able to lift me up again lol.

After 3 weeks I hit the stall for 2 or 4 days at a time then my surgeon told me to eat more food to lose more and it's true! My first stall ended when I started eating solid food in a bit bigger portion. Cheer up! it's normal, I even gained a little today :-P

I had my first green salad last Friday after 1 month post-op appointment with my surgeon, and I have it everyday since. So far I only tried Boston lettuce, young spinach and cherry tomatoes. For protein, yesterday I added some pork to my meal and it went well too.
  12. Actually after the surgery they took my blood everyday for 5 days, also pricked the fingertip for blood sugar test. Everything was fine in the report then they released me.

    can we never smoke?

Before the setting the date of surgery, my surgeon admitted me 48 hours in the hospital to check-up with everything, He needs all consents from cardiologist, lung specialist doctor, psychiatrist for the operation, biopsy and also scan the organs in the abdomen that it will be safe. I think it depends on the condition of each patient. I didn't need to go on the diet pre-op to shrink the liver nor stop smoking before the surgery, but I met another patient of my surgeon during the check-up she said the doctor asked her to stop smoking 1 day pre-op. Also on the 4th day post-op when I went to do the scan for the swallow test if there's any leak, actually they scanned the whole abdomen and had the report of each organs (even my uterus) if everything is in the good condition and also sent the report of the surgery to my general practitioner. I want to share the information here that each country has different practice and procedure, I think in France the doctors give special concerns on the psychological condition of the patients. When I had the problem with hypertension my doctor told me to try to lose weight first and I may continue smoking (I'm not a heaver smoker though) because he was afraid that I would be too stressful, the same with my surgeon. Smoking is also like the food addiction, before the WLS, I don't think that any of us would be able to stop it neither, non-smokers (good for you, btw) wouldn't understand just like people who never had weight problem never really get the idea of WLS or being obese. I'm not encouraging anyone to start smoking again, post-op, it's best that you quit, I will probably quit one day too. I just answered the question here, that's all.
  14. OMG I'm 6 weeks out today and just experienced throwing up for the first time during my breakfast, maybe I was eating to fast, or the rice is too dry. Nothing came out but awful lot of foam saliva. I'm not done eating yet and not sure if I should finish my breakfast. ;-P

    Going back to work

6 days post-op I was in the hospital and after being released my surgeon gave me 5 weeks of sick leave, Oh I was so glad. I couldn't imagine going back to work a week or even two after the surgery I was too tired. This week will be the last week of my rest at home, it's been so peaceful. I can't wait to go back to work next monday though,

My surgeon didn't give me any guideline for protein or anything (I'm in France) he only told me not to eat sweet stuff like candies, no soda even sparkling water. He told me to eat a bit of everything, carb, protein, vegetable, fruits, fat.. you know, balance meal in a small portion. Only 2 things he told me to do is to eat a cereal bar for afternoon snack, pick anything I like which contains Selenium, B6, B9 and zinc and drink 1.5 litre of water. Sorry if I'm not very helpful on this but so far I have added only chicken to my meals other than eggs and cheese or greek yogurt.

    can we never smoke?

Indeed my surgeon was very concerned regarding the thrombosis during and after surgery. So I had to wear the compressing stockings to prevent the thrombosis during surgery and a few days later. They also gave me the injections of anti-thrombosis every evening, 15 days post-op.
  20. Wow you look great!! Congrats
  21. I was just a bit 1 month out and lost 22 lbs, just wanted to reply to this thread because you will be sleeved on my birthday!! Best of luck! Oh I'll be 43 on your surgery date. 4'11

    can we never smoke?

Oh I only smoke cigarettes by the way, I personally don't think that marihuana will be more harmful than coffee.

    can we never smoke?

I went back to smoke around day 10th post-op. My surgeon didn't ask me to stop smoking before the surgery or after, when I told him that I re-smoking again he shrugged on it. He just simply said, you may quit it later, you cannot quit all at once, it's stressful.
