not taking protein shakes
FairySleeve replied to aliess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think here in France, the surgeons prefer that the body goes through the process with natural real food which we're supposed to live on in long term. The most important thing they seem do not want the patients to bear the extra cost for our health issues. I'll just share this for information, for the weight lost surgeries, the social security bears all the cost of the procedure including pre-op check up and the rest will be borne by the health insurance (which my husband pays 5 euros per month), we just send the invoice of the surgeon to the insurance and only one day they gave us the letter to take charge of all cost, In case that the insurance cannot cover the total amount of the bill, my surgeon would charge me only the amount that will be paid by the insurance. When I got out of the hospital I paid the whole amount by cheque to the surgeon but he didn't cash it right away, now he's waiting for me to call his secretary that l I get reimbursed by the insurance, then he will bank in the cheque. My surgery including my stay 4 nights in the Intensive Care service and 2 nights of recovery room, it costs around 3700 US$ (I got in done in a private hospital, if it's the public hospital it costs around 600 euros or around 800 US dollar and will be borne by the social security). I only paid around 6 euros out of my pocket for the private room and minus the cost of Protein shake. I was so glad because I am not the fan of Protein Shake, tried it long time ago and couldn't stand it. Anyway, I will have to take the blood test in 3 months and if the result shows that my body needs more protein, maybe he would encourage me to take it. So far he only encouraged me to take a cereals bar with Vitamin B6, B9, Selenium and zinc for snack nothing else. -

My scale didn't move at all for a few days after 4 weeks then I had an appointment with my surgeon, he told me to eat more to lose more. That also when he ordered me to eat solid food just a day after I started losing again, slowly but losing, since then (10 days) I lost 1.4 kg (3 lbs). -

Went back to work today after 6 weeks of recovery and everyone was very pleased with my new look. I stepped in my big boss' office to say hi and he said Whaoo you look great, he tool my photo to show to his wife and his wife also conveyed a kind word to me. He also sent the picture to the chatting group of the office and congratulated me, this is really unexpected. He got the idea why I did this surgery and wished me well and really happy when he saw the first result. I myself and my husband don't really see the big different but others surely do, there's a grumpy guy not sure which country he's from but he never talked to me before until today that he offer to help me moving the empty boxes. Now I think; Wow, I must have been THAT fat before! -

Afraid to Give Up My Favorite Foods
FairySleeve replied to jvslaw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Completely agree with AlwaysVegas, the first time I heard about Sleeve, I did the hell lots of research before going to talk with my surgeon in the end of April, then I knew since then that if I want to go for this I will have to change completely my eating habit and choice of food (I never was a big sweet tooth or addicted to junk food but probably carbs and portion of food that ballooned me up). My surgeon didn't asked me to lose weight pre-op but I just wanted to tried out or trained myself if I was up to the post-op life. So I started eating very less carb for only Breakfast or lunch, a pound of vegetable per day. drinking 2 litres of Water during 2 months between the first consultation with the surgeon (28 April)to the date of surgery (7 July), The amazing thing happened, my taste and attitude towards food has changed, I prefer fruits than dessert and clean food than processed food then I knew I was ready for the sleeve. I lost total 13 lbs in 2 months which I think it's not bad, even had the second thought to cancel the surgery and did it on my own but then I knew that I couldn't underestimate one powerful thing that could screw me up very easily--the emotional eating habit!! I knew I need a tool to help me fighting it, I needed the sleeve. Regarding the favourite food, I'm very early out and now no food (even my favourites) pleases me anymore. Now I'm eating for energy and picking the best choice to feed my tiny pouch to lose weight. I think the appetite will come back later on, I just hope not too soon before I reach my goal lol. Maybe you can try changing the eating habit or choice of food for a week or so, low carb, high in Protein, fruits & vegetable to see if it's okay for you. It will also help you to smoothly follow the new way of eating post-op. Bon courage!! -
I call her Pris short for Prisna - in Thai means puzzle, I have to crack the code or ask questions all the time (adopted from Sanskrit "Prashna").

For me week 3 was fine but week 4 and 5 it went very slowly only lost 1.76 lbs per week. I have no hope for this week. :'-( -
After resting peacefully at home for 5 weeks, I'm going back to the the outside world to work. Not only that I have to see colleagues in my office but hundreds of staff in the organisation. I don't think they would notice some changes of my body (only lost 23 lbs post-op) but eating with people might be challenging lol Thanks for all suggestions.

I've lost totally post-op 22 lbs and just saw my doctor today for the first check-up. He told me that I should eat solid normal food now and stop with the Soup and soft food. Still no restriction for food excepr candies, sweet stuff and soda. I took photos of most of my food during one month to show him with the portion (compare to my iPhone), he said I should eat more to lose weight. Now he ordered me to eat my meal in the portion of the iPhone!! OMG, I thought I would die from stuffing myself for that amount of food but actually it's fine. Just make sure to chew well and eat verrrrrrrrrrrry slowly. So my first solid meal I went for Japanese, 1 small grilled ravioli, 1 beef & cheese teriyaki, 1 table spoon of rice and some green salad with sesame dressing. Everything's gone in 50 minutes hehe except the rice because I chose to eat more salad instead. I can exercise, go to swimming pool etc. Oh, I do have to increase also the Water intake from 1 litre to 1.5 litre. Oh I'm so happy and feel like back to normal again. I'm eating out this weekend tomorrow I was invited to lunch at my friend's and on Sunday, brunch with my inlaws at a restaurant. It's going to be my first meal at the restaurant but my husband will be my buddy. He will choose 2 light dishes that he can eat his dish and help me with my left over, so it won't be too obvious because I didn't tell my family that I had the sleeve done. Now I feel like the real challenge has just started.
