What was your worst day of recovery? I had surgery Wednesday, and I thought I would feel better today, but I feel worse. I'm clammy and lightheaded and my chest is tight from the gas pain. Ugh. I'm ready to be feeling good again.
-
Very true, Colleen. Unfortunately, I can't make my son understand at this point. He's only one and he's so sad that I can't hold him. Breaks his mama's heart. :-(

My incisions are glued instead of bandaged. So I'm not sure how that'll work. My surgeon told me not to scrub and to just let the water run over the incisions, which was fine yesterday. Maybe I'll shower like every other day.
-
Thanks, Colleen. You're always so encouraging. :-) I'm feeling a bit better now than I was right when I woke up, so that's good. I'm trying to walk at least ten minutes every hour, and it does seem to help. Hopefully I'll start feeling better tomorrow.

Chewing gum/ fizzy drinks
redhead87 replied to romana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't know about not being able to chew gum. My surgeon did tell me that carbonated drinks stretch the part of the stomach/esophagus above the band. -
I had my surgery yesterday morning. My calves started aching yesterday night, and still are. Is this common? I'm walking a fair amount, and have been doing Lovenox injections to help with DVT, so I don't really think it's a clot, especially since it's in both legs. Any advice or experiences with this? I'm planning on calling my surgeons office tomorrow morning.
-
I called this morning as soon as the office opened. I didn't call last night because it was 10pm and I don't know if they have an on-call service. But I talked to the nurse this morning, who talked to the surgeon. He suggested chewing some tums and making sure I was getting electrolytes, and they'll check back with me in a few hours.

I had my surgery yesterday. I'm doing pretty well so far. My port incision hurts and I'm sore, but nothing too bad. This afternoon/evening, my stomach has been hurting and has been gurgling a LOT. Is this normal? Is it the gas passing through, or is it because I'm only having liquids and I'm hungry? Will it stop?

Pureed after surgery
redhead87 replied to christinabryan89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to do four days of clear liquids, four days of full liquids, and then a week of purées. Like the two previous posters stated, ask your doctor about these concerns. -
Day 1 of my pre-op diet, and SO many questions
redhead87 replied to CherieRyde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used the Rockin' Refuel protein fortified milk from Shamrock. They are in the refrigerated section right by the milk. The vanilla was actually really good and pretty filling. -
What exactly is sliming? I just had surgery yesterday so I haven't had this happen yet, obviously.

Is there anyone else who had to give themselves the Lovenox injections? I did my first one today (surgery was yesterday) and it wasn't too bad. Anyone have any advice about it?

Walking on day of surgery
redhead87 replied to redhead87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you both! -
I was banded this morning. I'm feeling pretty good, considering. The port incision hurts the worst. Anyway, how often and how much should I be walking today and tomorrow? I want to be careful about clots and gas pain. Do I need to set an alarm to walk in the middle of the night?

My surgery this morning went well. Now I'm just recovering. I got home around 11am. Drank some Water, took some pain meds, and then slept for two hours. Got up, walked a bit, drank some water, then slept for two more hours. Repeated that process one more time. Finally got up at 5pm. Drank some broth, now sipping on home Crystal light. I am feeling okay. The port incision hurts the worst. Everything else is okay. Slight gas pains, but not nearly as bad as with my c-section.

My surgery is in about two hours! My parents will be here in just a few minutes, and my dad will take me to the hospital while my mom stays with my son. I'm nervous and excited and just kind of want it to be over with! Not looking forward to recovery, but I know it's such a short amount of time in the grand scheme of things.

July 16th is my Date
redhead87 replied to newme62633's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is tomorrow, too! I'm nervous and excited and hopeful. I have to be at the hospital at five-thirty in the morning! Surgery is at seven. It's outpatient, so I'll be home later in the morning or the early afternoon. I hope everything goes well for you! -
I am scheduled to have my surgery on the 16th! I just got approval from my insurance this past Monday, so I'm excited it's actually going to happen! But now I'm starting to get worried about after my surgery. I have a son who just turned one. I'm his primary caretaker until I start work again on July 23rd (I'm a teacher). My mom will help me the first few days during the day, and my husband will help in the evenings and on the weekend. But I'm still nervous about managing a rambunctious, newly-walking one-year-old. Advice? Suggestions? Also, am I crazy for going back to work a week after surgery? It'll just be orientation (i.e. meetings) the first week and a half.

I just joined these forums, and thought I'd pop in here. My surgery is this Wednesday, the 16th. I'm so excited! I've been doing the pre-op diet since the 2nd, so it'll be two weeks when I have surgery. Mine consists of unlimited Protein shakes, and other sources of protein such as turkey, chicken (skinless, no sauce), egg whites, tuna, etc. and the standard broth, Crystal light, and other low-calorie liquids. I go back to work full time on the 23rd, a week after surgery. I'm a teacher, so I was so glad to be able to have the surgery during the summer. I'm getting nervous about everything, but I'm so excited to change my life!
