Lying about not getting surgery is awful
nbw1220 replied to GinormousReislin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wanted to chime in here to give another perspective.. first, of course you don't have to tell anyone you had surgery...its up to you to disclose you medical history. That being said, I tell everyone who asks. The reason being- I was soooo super scared of having surgery that I put it off for years and everyone I ever talked to about losing weight said that they did it "the natural way"..IT WAS A TOTAL LIE. I had people come up to me afterwards and tell me they had it done too but never tell people. I would have loved to to speak to more people who had it done and I wish I had done it sooner. Now I tell people who ask "how I did it" the truth. I don't care how they react but maybe I'll help someone who was like me. Also I just had a revision surgery from sleeve to bypass and I plan on sharing that as well. Disclose what you would to who you like ...but remember how you felt before you had surgery & don't say it was "the natural way" if someone is looking for advice on losing their weight. -
Doing well! Down about 33lbs total and fitting into smaller clothes 😁

Did revision due to weight gain actually work for you?
nbw1220 replied to JulieCab's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am 2 months out from revision from VSG to RNY and I am happy with the results so far. I lost around 180lbs but I never got down to my goal weight the first time and then had some Gerd that never went away. 7 years and a baby later I gained little less than half back and still had GERD and acid reflux... So I had it done for both reasons. I am down about 33lbs since surgery -
I am so sorry for your loss.. In my experience not many people can stop at 1/2 a glass..so I would be careful about that..(me I'm that person😅)...Also I am about 7 weeks out from a revision surgery and have had lots of similar thoughts...they will pass if you distract yourself long enough or drink a ton of water... Try talking with friends, family or a medical professional about your thoughts. But remember your pouch is still healing and you will be grieving and healing...transfer addiction is a slippery slope and you have been through a lot and need to take care of yourself.

Considering revision
nbw1220 replied to Revisionist's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I agree with what others have said. Going from VSG to RNY is definitely different in the restriction and feelings of fullness. I am almost 2 months out and when I am full I get pressure in my chest but no where else...so different from my sleeve. Now that I am able to start moving to solids...i am finding that liquids are much easier (than with VSG) to drink as well. I am grateful that I have had no nausea, gerd or acid reflux with this revision. I also had gained about half of my weight over 7 yrs but I am losing again which is nice. You can lose weight with revision, my surgeon told me from the beginning that I would lose since it was a different surgery...just don't fall back into old habits with your second chance! I know it will slow down but I am down 33lbs since surgery. -
Revision from sleeve to bypass 8 days post op
nbw1220 replied to funky's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Had my revision on March 29th and it was a much longer surgery than we had anticipated .. took about 5 or 6 hrs but everything turned out okay.. I stayed an extra day in the hospital bc of how tired I was.. I could barely sip anything. Recovery at home went well. I did have A LOT of pain but that was probably due to the additional work they had to do and the length of surgery..I had more scarring and my sleeve was bigger than they thought..I am feeling great now..down 18lbs, no heartburn, Gerd or acid relux. It is slower this time around but I was also much bigger with my first surgery. Hw ever:400 Day of Sleeve surgery:350 Lw post op 1-2yrs: 230 Hw prior to revision: 290 Day of revision surgery: 278 1st day Post op: 288 Cw :260 -

Do I have to give up Coffee? If so, how? Suggestions please!
nbw1220 replied to Elizabeth21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drink more water! I think it helps ... I am 4 months out and I have a cup of coffee every morning. Then I follow it up with my morning/noon protein shake. -

CHECK IN! Week of October 31, 2014 sleevers!
nbw1220 replied to mnmlst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its nice to hear how everyone is doing! So I was sleeved Nov 3rd. Doing well! I am down about 25 lbs since surgery, making my total about 60 lbs since the beginning of my journey in July. Sick of the pureed phase though! I am really excited that I get to start some bites of real food next Monday. -
I had a lot of pain. I had to FORCE myself to get up and walk around the house every hour. They really want you up and moving to help circulate the blood. I know it's hard...I couldn't go shopping at all the first week.. in fact I didn't leave my house I did all my walking indoors. The second week i had a lot of pain but i was able to move around carefully and walk around stores. The third week i went out everyday and walked but i was still tender in my main incision.... and now I'm going on my 4th week and for some reason all my pain seems to have vanished overnight! It will get better for you! Watch the pain though if it gets too much to handle call your doctor.

It's time! On my way to the hospital right now! Surgery is in 2 hrs. I really hate hospitals but I am so excited it doesn't even matter. I've struggled through so much to get here that it's miracle this is even happening! To thank everyone for their stories I figured I would try share mine on this post. I'll keep you updated!

Thanks everyone! Good luck to all of you! This journey is worth all the trouble. So I've been home 2 and half days now and things are looking great. I am waiting to weigh myself til my first week is over so all the swelling can go down. I can't wait til i can take out this Drain on Monday!! but other than that my pain levels have gone down quite a bit. My one incision on the right hurts and is still swollen but it's definitely getting better. The only trouble ive had was some major grumbling gas pains and some dumping with skim milk. I think ill wait longer before adding that back!.... It's still a little surreal that my surgery was just last Monday! I think by the time i start adding real food back it will sink in more.

Was discharged yesterday! I've been at home relaxing, feels great to be home. I also get to add protein shakes and creamy soup to my days now so I welcome those new flavors! Still working on walking and keeping my pain levels low

Thank you everyone for all the luck and prayers! My surgery went well and there were no leaks this morning. I was going to post yesterday after surgery but i kept dozing back to sleep because of the pain medication. I was very comfortable and i was with family in a private room. So today they took out my catheter and did a leak test and so far I have taken 3 strolls down the hall and the pain is tolerable. I think the worst thing was not being able to have anything to drink until after my leak test the today. So far so good.

Where are the November Sleevers?
nbw1220 replied to ToccoraVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Day 3 on liquid diet. No hunger. I pulled out my back yesterday and was in the ER for 6 hours. I think that made get over the hunger real quick! Trying to take it easy... doctor said it should heal in a few days. I'm hoping it does or else I will have to push out the surgery -
Where are the November Sleevers?
nbw1220 replied to ToccoraVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just started my pre op diet today after finishing my pre op labs! So they did another blood test, urine test, an ecg, and I went over more information with the nurse. They told me to start the pre op liquid diet immediately. Its was day earlier than I thought it would be and I had a girl's night planned at my house tonight. I was thinking in my head it would be OK to just start tomorrow. .. then I changed my mind. This is it! Thats the old me and my old way of thinking. I don't need to delay it with another excuse like girl's night! I am super excited still about starting my new life so i think that helped me breeze through today. Plus all my friends that came over tonight were really supportive and didn't mind it. It was a good first day at least -
