  1. Can the Bari Bread be made with the liquid egg whites from a carton? I hate to waste the egg yolks.

    I'm scared I'll be saggy....

You are making a wonderfully courageous decision at a young age. I made the decision at 49 yrs and although I do have sagging skin, I would do the surgery again in a heart beat. I have diabetes...have had it for about 17 - 18 years and it is a seriously damaging disease that is easy to ignore. Unfortunately that comes at a huge price down the road. Please have your surgery and do not worry about the saggy skin. I sometimes lament the saggy skin, but tell myself that I am so much healthier 85 lbs. lighter. I am off of the majority of my diabetes meds (I do have some damage to my pancreas because of how long I had the disease prior to my sleeve) and feel sooooo much better. As others have posted, in clothing, you will look great. I still will wear shorts and a bathing suit this summer...I did so before WLS so why not? I look and feel better even with the saggy skin. And, I know that I will be around to know and love my grand kids when my 13 year old blesses me with them
  3. I just found this thread and I am enjoying it. I am almost one year post sleeve surgery and am finding myself slipping...i.e. eating some of that junky food that I should avoid. Your posts have inspired me to literally immediately sit down with a pen and paper to make my grocery list. My list includes ingredients for the bread and chicken tenders. I am sure this is just the beginning of your recipes that I try. Thanks so much for sharing. I am now following you and look forward t your blog. Keep up the inspirational great work

What does your daily menu consist of?

I am 8 weeks out tomorrow. I have to be very careful with sugar and fat. I've learned the hard way that much of either causes me pain and nausea. A typical day for me, at this point: B - 1/4 - 1/3 c. cottage cheese with 1/2 tsp of regular jam or 1 tsp no sugar added jam S - Protein shake - scoop and a half unjury vanilla with Mio, a peach, or 1/3 banana. Typically I use ice, Water and a bit of skim milk and blend with my Ninja L - 1/4 c fat-free refried Beans with taco sauce and light cheddar; 1 or 1 1/2 oz deli turkey; 2 reduced fat cheese sticks S - just started eating 1/2 Protein Bar ThinkThin, Quest or Pure Protein D - about 1 oz meat - fish, moist chicken and tonight making turkey meatloaf, about 1 oz of green cooked veggie, and sometimes a small bite or two of starchy veggie - beans, sweet potato. The other night I made a lasagne with zucchini noodles, light cheeses, low sugar marinara and chicken italian sausage - very yummy and my entire family liked it - even my picky 12 year old who "hates zucchini". I've become lactose intolerant so I take Lactaid pills before dairy. When I forget, I pay for it. I haven't tried lettuce yet...does anyone know about how long out I should be before I do? I'd really like to make a turkey taco using a lettuce wrap.

    Constant Bathroom Issues

Since surgery 17 days ago, I've had trouble with gas and diahrea. I've concluded that I've become lactose intolerant. So I am now using Lactaid milk and cottage cheese and Lactaid chewables when I eat other dairy. I also discovered that only whey Protein isolate is lactose free. Most Protein shakes use whey protein concentrate too...so when I try one of these again, I will take a Lactaid chewable. I'll see how it goes and let you know.

    diabetics

Came home off of 3 meds - Levemir, Metformin and Victoza. Now, I am using a sliding scale for short acting insulin....so far the most I've taken in one day will be today and about 17 units...this is much better than pre-sleeve. I am 17 days post op. I am happy with my progress regarding meds as my main goal for surgery was to get the diabetes in remission. I think I will as I get more weight off.

    June sleevers, check-in!

sleeved on June 25th HW 234 SW 201 CW 184 I was on full liquids straight out of the hospital for a week. Then pureed foods for a week and now soft foods for a week. So far I've eaten an egg (which my stomach did not like), cottage cheese, fish, and soft veggies. I feel good but think I've not hit the stall that I see many of you mentioning. My main goal with surgery is to get diabetes in remission...not there yet, but only on small doses of short acting insulin (was on Levemir, Victoza and Metformin) so I am really happy about that.

    Surgery July 10th

I am 17 days post surgery - sleeve...I was shocked at how hard it was to even drink Water for the first few days. I found that warm decaf tea with a little honey worked well. Don't be discouraged by how long it takes to drink a Protein shake at first...for me a couple of hours wasn't unusual. At this point, I am doing some pureed foods and very small amounts of soft foods...fish, steamed or sauteed veggies, cottage cheese is and has been a staple for me, ricotto cheese and greek yogurt. One recipe that I really liked for pureed foods was fat free refried Beans, cooked chicken, taco sauce and reduced fat cheese - mix in blender and put in fridge. Then I'd heat up 2 Tbs as a serving. Yummy! Good luck Kim

    HOLY CRAP 3 DAYS AWAY!

Hi Misty - I am two weeks Post-Op now and had the same feelings you are now having for months! My surgeon was always there to assure me that these feelings are perfectly normal. So, hang in there, you are doing the best thing for your health! For me, I chose the VSG and focus on reducing and hopefully putting diabetes in remission. As far as family goes, my husband and 12 year old son have dealt with my surgery really well...and to be honest I wasn't sure how my husband was going to handle it. He was definitely anti-surgery. So, if he is helping me come up with "blenderized" meals that taste good, I have to believe yours will be supportive too. Think positively...this is all planned not a spur of the moment decision.
