What would you change?
Bring It On replied to Bring It On's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Thanks everyone for the input. I'm still not certain, but I am leaning toward the sleeve. Neither sleeve, nor plication is covered under Tricare, only Gastric Bypass and Banding, which I think is ridiculous. Can't wait to get this party started!!! -
Hello my new friends - Starting my journey to healthy living. I have Tricare Prime insurance (my husband is retired military). I called Tricare, and was told that they did not cover the sleeve surgery and would not say that they would not cover Plication. What I would like to know is, has anyone who has Tricare used their insurance for the sleeve. I just don't understand why they would rather me do a gastric bypass when it is more expensive!! Of course, I don't understand the insurance business anyway. I have 2 co-morbidities with 90 lbs to lose. Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks for all the feedback. I have found out that Tricare will definitely not cover the sleeve or plication. My only other option is Gastric Bypass. I really hate to have a surgery I really hadn't planned on, but if I don't I will be out 15-20K. Bummer!! -

Hate to hear that about Tricare. I looked on the VA website for Lexington, KY. All they show is something about MOVE. Is that the program you have to go through before they will do the sleeve surgery? If so, how long does it take? What hoops did you have to jump through to get your surgery? Thanks! -

Thanks for your response. When you pull up what is covered on their website, it says it does not cover the sleeve. I feel like whenever my claim gets submitted with the co-morbidities, I can always ask for a review if they give me any trouble. I am determined to have this surgery one way or another, I would just rather it come out of their pocket instead of mine!! -

Hi. I am just getting started on this site. I love the cute little icons showing weight loss and goal after the posts. Where on this site do I find that so I can play too? -

Same here for me. I have just started the process. I ordered the "big book" and probably read every post on this site! I have my first meeting with a surgeon on 7/21. I have Type 2 Diabetes and really bad sleep apnea, so my insurance is waiting on my surgeon visit to make a determination. I am determined to lose this weight and live healthy. What was the time table for others between surgeon/psych/nutrition visits before surgery? My insurance does not require a "losing period", but do most surgeons? Thanks for the support!! -
Hope your surgery went well. I live in Richmond. Just getting started. Would love to correspond.

My Insurance is Tricare North. They told me on the phone that the "sleeve" was not covered. Why is it that other Tricare's on here can have it? Should I have my surgeon send in a referral for a sleeve anyway? Or should I go the Plication route? Any help on here would be very appreciated!!! -
