  1. Wow! My surgery was 9/11. I walk everyday, but not nearly that much. I am just past the pureed stage, and can have any Protein meats that I want (of course, chewed to death), but I am not allowed to have vegies and fruit until 8 weeks out. Funny how all the rules are different for docs. Glad to hear you are doing well. By the way, I posted my favorite shake recipe in the September 2014 forum if you would like to try it.
  2. My surgery was 9/11. I am able to hold a little more Fluid now than I did last week. By that I mean, 2 swallows, I had to wait for the weird gurgle in my throat and stomach, that tells me yes, you can have another swallow. It's weird, because I only feel that way with liquids, but not with the shakes I make. Such a big life change - looking forward to better days!
  3. Hi September Friends, My RNY was on 9/11. While visiting my daughter this weekend, she prepared me a new Protein shake that is going down so smooth and also provides a lot of protein. Since my surgery, I have become quite lactose intolerant, so this helped me as well. 1 c. silk unsweetened almond milk (vanilla flavor) 1 sm. ice cream scoop of almond butter (I found mine at Kroger the the natural food section) Sprinkle of Cinimmon 1/2 frozen banana Ice Mix together in a blender to crush ice, then add protein. I use 1 scoop (25 g) chocolate. Then mix together again. So Yummy, and filling. Hope this helps my friends. If anyone has any other recipes, please feel free to post!!!

    New Protein Shake Recipe

Yes, it's a lot like Peanut Butter, except made with almonds. I have to admit the whole idea of "almond milk" and "almond butter" turned my stomach, but it doesn't taste like it sounds. I find it extra satisfying, plus you can add as much Protein powder (of course, up to 30g) as you want. This morning I put extra ice in it and had a 20 oz shake with 30g of protein. Winner, winner. I found it at Kroger in the natural foods section. Lots of brands to choose from too.

    Chicken Noodle Soup

I am only 3 weeks out, but I have used the broth from chicken noodle soup mixed with 4 ounces of Water as my warm drink about 2 hours before bedtime. No noodles though!!!
  6. Hey. I had surgery on 9/11 and am doing great now. Took about 8 days for me to feel back to my new normal. The great thing is I was taken off my diabetes meds in the hospital. That is a blessing in itself. I always have new questions, but find lots of help on the this site. If I can be of help to anyone as to what I am eating now, please feel free to message me or copy this post with a post of your own. Good Luck everyone!!!

How are all the Sept. people doing?

Good luck to everyone! I had my surgery on 9/11. Down 16 lbs at my 1 week appointment to have staples removed. That was on the 19th. I had a little trouble at first getting my carbs and liquids in, but the further out I am, the better it gets. Eating eggs, cottage cheese, pimento cheese, and chicken salad now. But the best is WENDY's CHILI. Lots of Protein and taste great. Started Carbmaster yogurt today for extra protein. Also eat 1 tbs of Peanut Butter, slowly, once a day.
  8. I have reached the phase where I can eat yogurt. I have NEVER seen so many kinds and brands of yogurt. I know everyone's taste is different, but what are the ones that are acceptable to eat at 2-3 weeks post-surgery?

What type of yogurt do you use?

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I tried Carbmaster today, it was great!!!! So many good flavors to choose from plus low in carbs and sugar. My limit is 5g/serving, so I have to be picky.

    Post-Op regrets?

I definitely had regret when I was dry heaving at the hospital and again at home. After about the 8th day post-op, I have been fine. Yes, I hate that there are a lot of things I can't eat, but I know the rewards will far outweigh the banana puddings and chocolate cakes I will miss. Best part, I got rid of my diabetes medication in the hospital!!! No turning back!!!!!
  11. I like cottage cheese, but just seems so bland now. Anyone out there add anything to their cottage cheese that's allowed to put a kick in the taste??????

Can I have your recipe for that smoothie?

    tummy troubles

Just tried my first Protein shake since it hurt my gut so much one week ago. Still a NO go. Just such an easy way to get my protein in. Any other suggestions for a quick 30g punch to my Proteins?
  14. I am 1 week post op today. I am required to get in 60-80g of Protein and 64 oz of liquid a day. Is it a problem that some days I just can't put anymore liquid in my mouth and only get 50 or so ounces in? Today is the first day I have actually felt good. I think the walking I am doing is helping, especially with the gas. Thanks for any input!!

Best brand of RTD Protein drinks?

Tried the premier shakes from Sam's during my pre-surgery liquid diet. Thought to self....this is going to be a breeze. Tasted so good. Now that I am 1 week post-op....not so fast. I was told your taste buds can sometimes change during this procedure or you can become lactose intolerant. Hoping in the next couple of weeks I can try them again and they will be a go. Just wish I hadn't bought 4 cases.

    tummy troubles

This post has hit me dead on. I had surgery one week ago today (9/11), and today I actually feel like a human. I have yet to get in the 60-80 gm Protein and 64 oz of fluids, but I have come close a couple of times. I found the more I walk, the better the bloating and sick feeling gets. Lost my taste for the Protein shake real fast. Now I am drinking a Protein Drink that that has 15 gm in 10 oz. I have to rotate that with Water because of the yucky taste. Should I worry about not getting all my fluids in? Some days it may be only 50 oz. Dr. apt tomorrow. Hoping for a little more choices.
  17. Hello, my friends!! Received my approval from insurance and my surgery date today. My lucky date is September 11 @ 9:15 a.m. Looking forward to a brand new chapter in my life. Thanks to all of the support so far!!!
  18. Good Afternoon. After having my surgery on 9/11, this is the first day (day 4) that I have felt like getting online. The major complaint (?) that I have is when I am getting my liquids in (64 oz/day, which is difficult), after taking one drink and swallowing, I hear/feel this gurgle like liquid going down a funnel. It sometimes burns and feels like pressure. I thought when doing my pre-surgery diet, this was going to be so easy to get the liquids/protein in. NOT. Takes me approximately 2 hours or more to get 16 oz down. Does this get better? On the bright side, at least I pooped today!!!! Moving is slow, but getting easier everyday. Would love to hear from any of my friends out there who have dealt with these problems as well.

    V8

I was told to drink Diet V-8 splash. It tastes so good at first, but just like anything else, will run its course. Regular V-8 has way too much sugar!!!
  20. Just got "the call" that my surgery is on schedule for tomorrow at 7:30. I have to be at the hospital at 6 am. I thought I would be really nervous, but I am so at peace. Been on liquid only diet since yesterday, with just 1 dose of MOM. That was easier than my endoscopy!! Thank you my friends, for all the support during this pre-op period. I am looking forward to many new things - like, not being so tired and out of breath all the time, being able to buy clothes because I like them and not just because they fit. On a more humorous side, I am excited to be able to look down and see my feet, be able to get in and out of the tub without a wave hitting the floor, and lastly, be able to wipe my butt with no problem. I will try to never take my health and my future weight loss for granted ever again!! See you guys on the flip side in post surgery!!!

    surgery in the morning

Good Luck to you tomorrow!! Hope all goes well. Be sure and report on your surgery!!!

    pre-op testing

You should be having some kind of testing, probably just not scheduled yet. I had blood work, EKG, Echocardiogram, Pulmonary Function, sleep Study and an Upper Endoscopy. If you don't have to have ANY pre-operative testing, I would ask. All surgeon's at least require a blood count to make sure you aren't anemic before surgery!!!
  23. Still waiting on my approval. Did anyone out there call their insurance company often to find out if they were approved? I am very tempted to call!!
  24. My surgery is about 2 weeks out. Can I have a sampling of what you drank (if that's all you did) the first 2-3 weeks after surgery? I know my nutritionist will give me something to go by at my last appointment, but I figured everyone was about the same. Wanting to do some "sampling" to see what will taste good so I won't have to send the husband out for the unknowns. Thanks in advance!!
  25. Had my Pulmonary Function Test today. Took only about 30 minutes. Pretty simple test (if you don't have breathing issues). My tech was so enjoyable. He told me what my tests showed and assured me that I would be cleared for surgery. I have to admit, I feel sorry for those who have to go through that test with breathing problems. Lots of expirations that make you feel like your head is going to blow off your shoulders. Thanks to God for blessing me with good lungs and LOTS of hot air!!
