    August Sleevers Check In

Me too! I have a calendar on my fridge and I'm counting down! I have one last weigh in this Thursday and hoping I've lost enough weight in my pre-op diet for the surgeon to be happy and not reschedule...I would be crushed. Just got my fingers crossed that since I managed to actually get under 200 that he says I'm good to go. I feel like I've been on the edge of my seat with this since last November and I will finally be able to relax after Thursday when I walk out of the meeting with a surgery time slip in my hand. Congrats to all of those who have had their surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery. Sending prayers to all of us who have yet to go for a safe and successful surgery. A new life awaits :-)
  2. My docs say miralax since it's a non-stimulant and you don't become dependent on it. Takes 1-3 days to kick in tho. I took a capful Monday night and didn't have results by the next morning, so took another two capfuls...all I'm gonna say is I'm still getting cleaned out! LOL

Good luck to everyone going in tomorrow and Tuesday. I know there's quite a few scheduled those days! I go next week Tuesday the 12th and anxious to hear how everyone does.

    August Sleevers Check In

Yay! Me too! Of course I get the pleasure of the liquid diet, so I'm envious of you there, lol! I'm required to lose 15 lbs before surgery and I'm down about 8 and got 7 to go with just under 2 weeks to do it. I'm losing about 0.5-1 lb per day so I'm very optimistic :-)

    August Sleevers Check In

On day 11 of my 3 and a half week pre-op, liquid diet. Doing better with it now, but the first week was tough since me and my husband went on an already planned vacation. It's not so bad when I'm working cause I can stay away from the break room and the cafeteria, but at home is more difficult. Just tonight my husband felt the need to eat a couple Popsicles and big bowl of ice cream in front of me and seemed oblivious to what he was doing. Doing my best to ignore the junk in the house and satisfy my taste buds by sipping on some broth from the pot roast I made him for dinner. I really just want to scarf all the potatoes down! Ok, sorry, I'm done with my pity party...lol

    August Sleevers Check In

    I'm august 12!
  7. So I started my tube feed, {ah-hem}, I mean optifast diet yesterday and am already wishing I could eat real food. Practically drooled over my patients dinner tray last night when I was doing his assessment. I don't feel hungry, thank goodness, but I wish there was something more savory than just a bunch of sweet tasting shakes and the horrible, sweet bars. Must think positive thoughts! Oh boy this is going to be a trying three weeks.

    August Sleevers Check In

Started my liquid diet yesterday and its been pretty rough. I had to be at work (which I'm a hospital nurse) and tried so hard not to drool over my patients dinner tray, lol! I'm actually doing good with not feeling hungry, but boy real food just looks so darn good. I have to keep reminding myself that this won't last forever and I will not regret making this sacrifice now.

I'm Aug 12th as well! From what I've seen and heard, as long as you follow your diet from the doc and NUT, you should lose and maintain. Only people I've heard of gaining back are those that stretch out their new pouch and go back to their old eating habits.
  10. So happy and excited for you! Hope everything goes smoothly
  11. Did you have any issues with lifting? I work in ICU so not many of my patients are mobile and do a lot of boosting and turning. I'm going to be off for about 2.5 wks and nervous about hurting myself.

    Sleeve surgery and PCOS

@@Tiffy1026 How far along are you in the process? I started Nov 2013 and just got approved by insurance and given a surgery date last week. The insurance "game" can be very frustrating, but I feel in the end it will be worth every bit of it.

    August Sleevers Check In

Ugh, just had my surgery orientation today and got the green light to start my pre-op diet, however I thought it was only going to be 2 weeks. WELL....its actually 3.5 weeks of optifast shakes. I don't have a choice to what shakes I get as I buy them thru the center and I had to pay in advance for them. I at least got to taste test them first, but they still leave much to be desired. I'm excited to get this process started (this Friday), but I can't wait to get the surgery done!

@@butterflybefree The same thing happened to me. I got everything submitted just to find out the only person who could submit it to insurance went on vacation. I was on pins and needles until they finally gave me an answer, so I feel your pain. Good luck to you!
  15. I think everybody's experience is a little different depending on where you get the surgery and the requirements of your insurance. For example, I was only required to do a 3 month medically supervised diet instead of 6 months like I know a lot of people have had to do and I only needed to have one meeting with a NUT. My insurance didn't require a psych eval, but the center that does the surgeries required one for everybody regardless. So I think your best bet will be to call the place that held the seminar to clarify what is needed during your sessions so they can write a good report to send to your insurance, that's what I had to do for all of my stuff. I even had to spell out for my PCP what he needed to write up, lol!
  16. How do the Facebook groups work if you don't want everybody to know you're having this done? I've only told a couple family members and don't plan on telling anyone else.
  17. What shakes were you put on? I start my Optifast liquid diet next week and am now dreading the thought of them smelling of promote w/ fiber, LOL! That seems to be the tube feeding of choice for the dieticians on our unit (Coronary Intensive Care). Did you find a way to make them palatable, or did you suffer through?

    Sleeve surgery and PCOS

I am so excited to have my sleeve surgery Aug 12th! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17 and have had weight issues all my life. My cycles have been all over the place, from having a constant cycle for 8 months straight, to having no cycles for 4 months at a time. On and off B/C pills to control symptoms, but now I have been trying to conceive for the past two years with no success. Obese, infertile, and hairy do not make for a very positive self-image. With a supportive husband and a strong will to succeed, I'm looking forward to getting sleeved and starting our family!

    August Sleevers Check In

I'm right there with you! I'm scheduled for August 12th and have the same pre-op diet. I've got a big tub of ice cream in the freezer and plan to go out to dinner the night before the shakes start as sort of a farewell, lol!
  20. I have been jumping through the insurance hoops since November of last year and I finally got approved earlier this week! I am so excited! I have PCOS and have been unable to concieve for the past two years. My OB-GYN has been one of my biggest supporters of me continuing with this plan as she thinks my issues are related to my weight. I start my orientation to surgery class and liquid diet next week. I have to be on the Optifast shakes for three weeks prior to surgery which will be interesting. The only positive thing about not having any children during this process is that my husband can figure out how to feed himself! I can't wait to get this surgery done and over with!
