  1. Have my 6 week checkup on Monday and am NERVOUS. I haven't lost as much as I feel I should have. Don't want to be disappointed but afraid I might be. I have lost 2 pant sizes since surgery and almost 2 shirt sizes. The numbers don't reflect that though. But on the other hand NSV of sitting in a normal lawn chair without overflowing it and being able to reach my feet and still be able to breath! I know sounds silly but I couldn't do it before.
  2. I will soon be 52 and was sleeved 8-26. I had 2 months of preop diet and lost about 30# but since surgery I have only lost about 20#. You will have to continue to follow your prescribed diet but it will be easier to keep things in check. Because if you don't you will pay for it with pain and discomfort and possibly other nasty side effects. I think that us girls that are in our 2nd prime it might just be a little slower than the newer models. So keep plugging along and we will get to the end of this journey and let our healthier, thinner selves out.

    POST-OP chime in

Oh Karen Chinese does sound so good but I would be terrified of the results. I am 4 weeks today and am slowly figuring out what I can eat safely and what I can't. I did try some pizza but only ate the cheese and meat so ended up ok on that. Will save Chinese for another month. LOL
  4. Slimes are when you are overfull and instead of like real vomit it is frothy white stuff that comes up instead of food. I had it the first time last Friday and will NEVER do that again. I drank too soon after I ate and ate too fast so was very uncomfortable and nauseous but when it came up it was white.
  5. Thanks ayscott74. I know my body is changing. I have hip bones that I haven't felt in years and a jaw line. I have already had to go down clothes sizes but numbers are such a huge part of society especially weight numbers. I may have to find a tape measure just to console myself. Just worry about what the doctor will say next Monday. He can be tough
  6. So frustrated about slow weight loss. I wonder if it is because I lost so much before surgery. I don't snack or eat junk. All my food is mostly protein, I drank too soon after I ate the other night and had the slimes. GROSS. More careful now. I have my checkup next Monday and am very worried. I don't remember what I weighed before surgery HW was 270 and CW is 221. Get about 20-30 minutes of walking most days sometimes more. Was stalled at 225 for over a week. Just don't understand. Oh well no choice but to keep plugging along. Sorry so glum just a depressed day. I will be 5 weeks tomorrow
  7. Dehydration can cause joint pain. I would first check with your surgeon to make sure he doesn't have any concerns. I was told to drink one powerade zero daily to help with electrolytes in my daily intake of liquid. I am a month out and still sometimes have the leg cramps but urine is pale so know it isn't dehydration it is just electrolytes. I had no pain post op but there was a small amount of bruising and swelling but that resolved by the end of the first week. Hope you get to feeling better soon

    Devastated :(

That really sucks. I am so sorry. I didn't have a surgeon problem it was the metal health guy. He cancelled on 4x and the last time was the day before my surgery. I was the first person ever to have surgery done without a psych eval by my surgeon. Hang in there things have to get better.

    So embarrassed!

Been there and done that. I ripped my pants stem to stern and had to tie 2 jackets together so I could get home. So embarrassing. But that won't happen again because I am on the road out this weight mess.

    Feeling discouraged..

I too had to lose 10% and it took me 7 weeks to get it done. I was beyond vigilant with my diet and drank a TON of water daily. I haven't had any fruit since June, no bread, cereal, or pasta and no potatoes peas or corn. I am 1 month post op and very leery of even trying fruit and approved veggies. If you are close to the goal they set for you go online and read how athletes make weight. I had it printed and ready to go but didn't need to use it. Good luck and know it can be done. Hang in there.
  11. I hope I have half the success you have had. You look AMAZING!
  12. Hey peeps! Tomorrow is my one month surgiversary and I will be allowed solids. Yay (maybe). My stall has finally broke and I have lost some weight but I am nervous about eating real food. I know I eat too fast and make a huge effort to go slower but still forget and have bad pain in my stomach. And I also think I am the only one who has BAD diarrhea. It is crazy bad but it only happens about every 5 days. Can't take immodium and probiotic isn't helping. Eat greek yogurt but it doesn't help either. Any solid food advice will be appreciated.

    Recovery for an RN

I was released at one week to come back to work but I took an additional 4 days of vacation. Since I don't know what kind of nursing you do I don't know about the physical side but I had no restrictions. They said if it hurts don't do it. I was very tired and still am some days but getting better. I work in public health now and it was ok but when I worked in surgery I couldn't have done it quite so easy.
  14. No pain post op just some tenderness. Walked 2 hours after the surgery and was dismissed 17 hours after surgery. I had a 6 hour car ride and really hard bumps were unpleasant. Went on vacation 5 days post op and went 4-wheeling in the rockies. You will for sure be tired and I still am when my work day is done and I am 3 1/2 weeks out. The small drinks is hard to get used to and if you take too big of one you will know it but cant feel a lot of difference from the stomach I had before surgery. Just doesn't hold much.
  15. I went on vacation 4 days out and went 4-wheeling in the Rockies. Was a little sore and tired but otherwise all was good. What makes me tired it working 5 days a week with a commute.Still trying to get back in the swing of things
  16. My PA told me to forget about the scale right now and focus on how my body is changing. You just had a big shock to your system and your body is trying to hold on to the weight because it thinks you are starving. It will adapt and the scale will start moving. I had surgery 8/26 and the last I checked the scale hadn't moved but I have lost 2 sizes already. So go with it and believe it will work.

    FMLA and HR

Yes they have to keep it private. I was concerned too because I didn't want a lot of ppl to know so I ask her when I was in her office. So rest easy and don't worry about it. You have enough to deal with right now. Good luck
  18. I am only 3 weeks out but have watched my sister deal with her sleeve for the last 5 years. Yes she does eat foods that are not recommended but she takes responsibility for that and watches her weight and her diet a little closer. She states she hasn't ever vomited but the pain of overeating makes her think twice about that "last bite". She says she never has real hunger but she admits to head hunger and that is also hard to fight. She is active all day everyday and looks amazing but she never forgets where she was 5 years ago and how much work she did to get where she is.
  19. We are in this together and guess we will figure it out together Better than feeling like you are flying by the seat of your pants all alone.
  20. I know. I feel the same way too. Ate a lot more prior to surgery and lost a lot more. Wonder if my body is just holding on to it because it thinks I am in a famine. Who knows. Baby steps.
  21. I don't think it is a waste of time m4nurse. I know my weight hasn't changed but my body is a little at a time. My sister had this done 5 years ago and she looks amazing! I don't want it reversed just want it faster. It seems like we worked so hard to get to this point and now it seems like no matter how hard we work our weight isn't changing. I just emailed my Pt advocate and she isn't concerned at all. So we will just keep plugging along and working towards our goal.
  22. My weight is stuck and I don't like it. I will be 3 weeks out tomorrow. Try to eat the 3 meals I am supposed to and keep drinking Water. I don't know if it is because I lost 45# from the time I started the preop diet or what. I am now 1 week at the same weight and not cheating (like I could) on the diet. Body is changing and have had to start clothes purging so I know what I have available. Feeling defeated.

    Tommorrws the day

    Good Luck!!!
  24. Hi. I was done 8/26. Was dismissed the next morning and never had to have a pain med. I was a little tired the first couple of days but fine after that. Even went to the Rockies on vacation and spent 2 days 4-wheeling. I will be 2 weeks out tomorrow and have only lost 14#s. But I am wearing a size smaller in clothes and can actually reach my feet!!!. I haven't been able to do that for awhile now. I am still on clear liquids until tomorrow but sure am looking forward to having some soft food. Am a little afraid since I am never hungry and have no idea what "full" feels like. Can hardly wait for "onederland". I am getting closer
