Abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia repair tomorrow!
old_rn replied to sassy14's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Yay for you!!!!!!!! I hope I can bid mine goodbye at some point too. Hope all goes well -
I agree with BLERDgirl. Eat slooooow. Put the fork down and wait or get the app called "eat slow". It has a little alarm with it is time for another bite. I still have the air problem if I don't pay attention to my chewing and speed.

Things people don't seem to talk about...
old_rn replied to April4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that there are some things that aren't sunshine and roses. After 4mo I can finally drink plain water. I still can't drink anything cold though. I never had a protein amount and was told to not drink shakes or eat bars if I can avoid it. I found a bar I like and it comes in a couple of flavors so I keep those on hand when I don't have time to eat my "real" food. I still have head hunger. I try and make it stop by doing something else or drinking some of the never ending water. I don't know if or when I will be able to eat roast beef. It made me sick not once but twice and am smart enough to avoid it a third time. I have found that a lot of the food that I shouldn't eat I don't want to eat. Bread, pasta and cereal were favorite foods but now I would rather be able to park at the far end of the parking lot and walk the distance than go back and have those foods and not be able to walk around the block. Plus without those foods I no longer have swelling in my legs and feet. I am a long way from my goal and I don't lose fast but I am slow and steady and lose at least 1lb every week. I can go up stairs and breathe when I get to the top, I can sit in a lawn chair and not spill out of it, no more cholesterol meds, no more cpap and no fibromyalgia pain that I can't tolerate on a daily basis. I would do the sleeve again a 100 times to feel this good -
My collarbone is beautiful...
old_rn replied to HumanMerelyBeing's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that we lose our bones. I have some collar bones and also hip bones. When I lay down there they are sticking out! I have shoulder blades and I can bend and reach them when I have an itch. I know it sounds strange but if you haven't been there you will never understand. -
Good for you!! Think that should be an NSV. Actually forgetting to be buck naked for weight

HURRAY!! You look wonderful. Keep up the good work!!! -
Google Telogen effluvium It makes sense about the hair loss even if it doesn't make it easy. My hair has been falling out in handfuls since the middle of October. I am almost 4 months out and am so ready for this to end. But losing weight helps me to not be so bummed about the hair.

So happy for you!!! Hope to join you soon

Me too. It is faster I think

I have slimed but it is always when I eat beef. So after 2 times I will not be eating that anymore. It is unpleasant and don't plan to repeat it anytime soon. I have to get all my liquids in or I feel like I have been in the desert and the protein is at every meal. Usually I don't have room left for anything else.

Good Job!!!!

You go Babbs! My counselor told me years ago never to give anyone the power to make you feel so bad. So you take that power back. No one has that right.

I think I am on my second stall too. I am actually looking forward to body changes that come with it. But being so close to onederland and not being able to get there is frustrating.
-
YAY!!!! I am so close and have hit a stall. Hope I can be there with you in a couple of weeks
-
I understand your frustration but like Elode said it isn't a written in stone denial so power on. You will succeed!!!

Wow sorry to hear that your surgeon isn't very helpful. Mine has my first 2 years planned out for me. They let me know if I am doing good or bad. I agree you should see if you can find a dietician who is knowledgeable about bariatric surgery. If your doctor doesn't have one maybe where you had your surgery has one available. Also an exercise physiologist is helpful to keep your activity in line. So like the others said go back to basics and monitor yourself. Good luck

Fear and Loathing in Denial

Awesome!! -
Name something strange and super unhealthy that you used to eat before weight loss
old_rn replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in Food and Nutrition
Any kind of ice cream. I would have Blizzards for lunch and eat out of the bucket after supper. Could eat at least a bucket a week. I was all about the sugar- cake, cookies, cereal with sugar on it....I agree with the sugar addiction stuff. I am afraid that one bite might make me want to eat it again. Fortunately I no longer like the taste of ice cream. Thank you to my Surgeon! -
You have a waist!!!!!!!!! I am so envious!!!
-
YAY!!!!! Keep up the good work!!!

How's your skin holding up?
old_rn replied to mnmlst's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope my skin figures out how to shrink adequately. I am afraid I am going to need abdominoplasty but way to soon to tell. I can tell you I look like I am melting and at my age it is going to be a challenge. Since I had to pay for my own sleeve surgery I don't have any left over to pay for plastics. I am saving but not enough I am sure. I would never go to mexico for ANY surgery because I worked in surgery in the US and have had to "fix" major mistakes. Just my opinion. -
I can relate but I deal with children. When a morbidly obese child comes to my office and can't breathe I am so very concerned. Their parents don't know why they are overweight. Or so they say. I try and teach them that we all like what tastes good but with children it is their parents who should say no or offer something more healthy. Or they should take them out for a walk around the block or even to the end of the block. I tell the parents do you really want to send your child to school and they can't play like the other kids? Some times I just want to jump up and down and tell them that they should do something NOW so that their child isn't put in a position of having to make a choice like surgery to have a healthy active life. It would have been so nice not to have to relearn to eat and drink instead of just being taught from an early age how to eat and drink. So I spend my days teaching and hoping to make a positive impact on at least one child's life.
