Hitting the 60 gm protein quota 1 week post op
LuvDaNuMe replied to poobaer523's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Use myfitness pal and log all your shakes and food. Also use a good whey isolate like Unjury or premier protein is descent. Add unflavored protein powder to your mushy foods. You are only 1 week post op...You are doing great! FYI, hair loss doesn't usually start until about 6 months post op. It's temporary hair loss!! Congrats and Best wishes! -
I started with a low bmi. Low BMIs usually have slower weight loss. You have less weight to lose so take it slow. I figured out early on that carbs are not my friend. Make sure to keep carbs super low and eat high protein, and some healthy fats. Water, water, water is your friend.

Recently there was a report that Jennifer Hudson had WLS and did not lose weight from the Weight Watchers program. Apparently weight watchers has file suit against JH. -

FYI, for those having difficulty getting in protein because of the taste, try using Diet Hot Chocolate and add a scoop of unflavored whey isolate protein powder. The one I use is Unjury. It's warm, easy on the stomach, and taste great. Can't even tell the protein is in it.

Heat liquid below 140 degrees use a wire wisk to mix in the protein after well mixed then reheat to desired temp. This works for me when using unjury, I have not tried this techn with other brands.

Suggestions for early stall (2 wks post op)
LuvDaNuMe replied to Bingcherry's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congrats!! You are doing great! Stay off the scale and focus on getting in fluids and protein. Your body is still getting use to the changes but no worries in a few the weight will begin to decline. Your calories for now are good as you progress to the next stages your calorie in take will increase. -
At 4 days post op is hard if not impossible for some to get 80g of protein. Focus on liquids...try adding protein powder to warm liquids like broth, bullion cubes, diet hot chocolate this is my faborite. Add protein to diet juice if you want. Premier Protein ready made shakes are excellent in the beginning stages and each shake has 30g of protein so you can do 3 a day and get 90g. Protein shakes count as part of your total daily fluids. I drank 1 oz every 15 min of liquids at your stage. By end of day you will have all required liquids and protein.

How many weeks post op are you?
-
Talk with you NUT about Genepro because my NUT and a dietician says it's not good protein that you really only get about 10g of protein. The rest is amino acids. I no longer use Genepro.

Could use a little advice
LuvDaNuMe replied to music1618's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If he is a friend, chat with him about your concerns. I would asked him if he has discussed with his surgeon the serverity of his acid reflux and issues associated with the sleeve. He may not be aware of the issues. -
Protein recommendations

After you mix it at 140 degrees, reheat it for the desired temperature. -
I also had surgery for health reasons and I began with a low BMI. I too am 5' 4" goal weight 125. I am 3 months post op and 25 lbs from my goal weight. It's going to be a great journey! Best wishes!
-
You already have a low BMI so weight loss will most likely be at a slower rate than if you had a much higher BMI. If you follow Dr orders and work the plan you will more likely meet your goal weight at about 6 months post op. Don't worry about slow weight loss, for low bmi that is probably best.

I stalled around 4th week. I logged everything I ate and realized I was eating too many carbs. Keep carbs low, protein high and eat some healthy fats. Low carbs keeps the body in ketosis which entices the body to burn fat. Drink plenty of fluids and walk walk walk or exercise. Mix up your daily routine including calories, if you keep it the same the body gets comfortable and tends to plateau or stall.

African American vsgers!

@ m4nurse, yes I spend a great deal of time researching cause I didn't get enough required info from NUT. I have found I have to pay attention to my body and determine what works and what doesn't. I found if I keep my body confused I steadily lose 2 lbs a week. I basically keep my calories on a roller coaster, one day high, then I go low, and so on. I don't keep the same calorie schedule daily. So far this is working for me! You will find what works best for you! Best wishes on your journey. -

I drink Premier Protein shakes 11 oz (30 gram) protein, I also use unjury unflavored protein powder to make green smoothies. Genepro protein powder is one I like but my NUT is skeptical about its benefits. -

I log everything I eat in MFP. Typical day: Early morning Protein shake (30g) Breakfast: 1/2 c Oat meal, scramble egg, 1 turkey sausage. Snack: Protein Bar or P3 snack Lunch: grilled chicken salad Snack: Protein Shake Dinner: meat loaf, spinach, or steamed veggies. I limit carbs because too many makes me stall. -

I eat between 800-1000 depending on if I get in a good cardio workout. I focus on getting my protein 80-100 g, and I eat very little complex carbs most days I get maybe 30-40 g. -
Yes all fluids count including protein shakes, jello, popsicles, broth anything that is liquid will help with staying hydrated.

Dumping everything, even water?
LuvDaNuMe replied to BG-'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's possible you have a stomach virus maybe from something you ate. Tea will probably make worse so I wouldn't drink it. Go back to just taking small sips of water every so often, sf popsicles, broth and call your Dr. -

I was sleeved June 26th down 42 lbs so far. -
Check the ingredients, if it says Collagen protein my NUT says do not take because the body is only able to absorb about 30% of the protein so you would not be getting the 20 g.
-
Great! I hope you like it. Best wishes!

Most likely it's gas. Try taking Gas-X that really helped me.
